After the National Championship game tonight I'm sure there will be a way too early poll for next season. The polls at this time will assume Hammons is back, so where do we expect Purdue in the polls??

I would be very surprised if we aren't ranked. My guess, 20ish. Any thoughts?

I think we should be in the 20-25 range. I feel that we will be overlooked and not in top 25,

I don't think they will be ranked in most of these super early polls because most knowledgeable college basketball pundits are aware that Jon Octeus has used up his eligibility.

The staff needs to get someone for the 1, Swanigan needs to make his decision, Hammons needs to make his decision, and if Swanigan chooses someone else, it might be a good idea to go after a JC or senior transfer to have more depth at the 4 (if you consider Edwards to be more of a natural 3). Or they could just try to get the best player possible (ie someone like Damion Lee, Drexel grad transfer) to add more firepower to next season's team.

So, yeah, I think some things still have to be cleared up before you see Purdue in the top 25 of many of these preseason rankings.

IU 12th? That's just stupid. But it already paves the way again for massive failure.

I was flabbergasted! They said all they was missing last season was a presence in the middle. With the verbal this weekend, they felt the Hoosiers were knocking on being elite with already the best backcourt in the league.
I'll see if I can find it and link it.

With all the 5-stars on that team, I wonder why the pollsters aren't rating them #1.

(I think I know the answer.)

Maybe the best offensive backcourt but Blackman sure takes them out of any defensive awards.

Eamon Brennan just put out his for next year: Purdue is not in the top 25, IU is 16. Maryland is the best in the B1G at 6. I would link it but I am tired, gnight.

This. I'm so tired of the "fly under the radar stuff" Purdue has been successful enough that it should be a shock to be a top team in the country. Honestly, hasn't done us much good anyways as I still haven't seen a final four in my lifetime.

I absolutely 100% agree with this. Purdue basketball should never be under the radar.

My waaaay too early Final 4 predictions:
Kansas
Iowa State
Wichita State
2016 National Champion -- North Carolina

Best offensive backcourt? Maybe, maybe not. All you need is a good defensive presence in the paint to stop drives, then you put tall guards on tight on those two shrimps and suddenly the 3-pt shooting seems to fall off drastically.

I love that IU is ranked #12. We will get some of those flamers over here to brag about what hasn't happened yet, then they all scurry like coackroaches when the season starts. It is just fun to watch, predictable, but fun.

We're #12! We're #12!!

Does that work?

Ques. Who is the 2nd shrimp? Yogi is the 1st, but he's quick enough to overcome it at the college level. The other guards are 6'3-6'4 range.

If I came out with a poll, I'd have Purdue at #18 and IU at #20. I'm a believer in proving it on the court first. And you guys were pretty good down the stretch for the most part.

Eamonn Brennan (ESPN) has one out:

Maryland - 5
Indiana - 16
Michigan State - 24
Wisconsin - 25

Let the arguing.....err....debating, begin.

Thanks for the chuckle Mike. I appreciate the self-deprecation and humor you take in this post. Thanks. It has been a sour day at work so far, and this helped!.

I knew Yogi was on the shorter side. I didn't realize Blackman was taller. He seems to play "smaller" when I've watched him. It seemed to me that you could frustrate both of them by playing close up defense on them. They are both capable of attacking a close defender because they are both fast. With a strong post defense, drives around a close defender into the paint were not always a successful strategy. Maybe they will develop a mid-range game to go with the (1) shot outside, or (2) drive for a layup. That #3 option of a short mid-range jumper would be a good addition to their game.

Yeah IU has two "great" guards. Put PJ on BooBoo and RD on Blackmon and never will another sound be heard.

Pre-season, Purdue will IMO be in the top 25....somewhere from 20-25.

If AJ returns, and my guess at this time is that he will, and with the addition of Taylor playing the four, Purdue is a lot better than they were this year, and at some point (again, if AJ comes back), we'll see them in the top 10-15 range and will finish the pre-tourney at about 11th.

I believe too many are worrying about the PG slot which in a pure motion offense just isn't as important as it is in a dribble/drive NBA one-on-one game. PJ will be much improved, Davis will be the team's on court leader, and Edwardsj, Mathias, and Haas will both be vastly stronger and much improved. I still want to see Taylor on the court with AJ/Haas as Purdue should own all of the rebounds. And, if Cline is what many of you are saying, Painter should be able to 9 deep.

Good things ahead for the black and gold.

RD on Blackmon, sure that's a good matchup. O vs. D.

I honestly don't know....anything about PJ. I doubt he's good enough to shut down Yogi.

I'm really looking forward to next year's matchups already. It might be the 1st time both teams are good in a looooooooooooooong time.

Things could change, though. Hammons is 50th on draftexpress currently. He could certainly earn a nice paycheck with his size over in the top Europe leagues.

With Yogi, it's not just the one on one match-up (although still important) as it is playing team defense against IU. If you play disciplined team defense, you screw up what they try to create.

As for Hammons, it's anyone's guess. First off, mock drafts are pretty hit and miss. NBADraft.net was updated yesterday and AJ Hammons isn't on the board and their 2nd round is very different than the site you mentioned.

I also don't know if Europe would be a big lure for AJ. Europe will undoubtedly be there for him at any point for a decent paycheck.

I still think Yogi leaves for the NBA. If that happens, all bets are off and Two Tone McClapperson is actively recruiting a JUCO PG.

Lunardi lost a lot of credibility w me this year(not that he had a lot to begin with). He also now for some reason has IU as a 2-seed. Yeah right.
