...and there is nobody, I mean NOBODY in the stands. Trying to figure out what the break even point is for red ink/black ink and I realize it truly isn't the butts in the seats, it's the eyes on the screens. The future if HERE.

Small schools, Christmas, Covid, and TV

not hard to figure out
May not be hard to figure out but it is still kind of sad. These kind of games used to matter to people. Especially the smaller schools. It was a big deal to play in a bowl and the fans showed up

It's no longer a "treat". Every team that has a .500 season is in and with covid Rutgers didn't even have to break even. When only a couple of teams from a conference got a bid it became a destination vacation for fans.

it’s not just the small schools or the small bowls. Ohio state had to return about 7k tickets to the rose bowl.

when the goal is the playoffs, the rose bowl is a letdown. Plus when the players opt out, that doesn’t really instill a lot of excitement.

i mean, how many Purdue fans are excited about going to Nashville? I never even slightly considered dropping my Xmas plans to go to Nashville.
