1. Kinnick stadium is a nice place
2. Iowa fans are great people
3. The children's wave is emotional and a humbling reminder of what is important
4. The O line looked good as I expected them to get shredded by Iowa's D
5. Bell finally played his part and I thought could have exploited the deep pass even more
6. Purdue played with discipline as penalties were low--the unsportsmanlike player should run with the flag barrier until the puke as there us no place for either
7. I don't like the fumble into the end zone rule BUT, our guys have got to learn to hold on to it in that situation--our ball 4th & on the 0.5 yrd is far better than their ball 1st and 10 on the 20.
8. It was windy today but the kicking game (punt & field goal) was suspect.
9. Kick coverage (punts and KOs) was frightening.
10. Play calling was good as I found myself not arguing with so many called plays.
11. The multi-QB thing was interesting and really played to their strengths.
12 Purdue's D was good on various aspects: Run stop, pass break ups, interceptions.sacks, pressure, 3&outs, and take aways
13. No unlimited refills on popcorn or soda--why in today's world us thus not everywhere?
14. The beer can thrown on to the field-- why was there no PA announcement telling fans not to throw things on the field--Purdue player picking it up and drinking it was funny.
15. I hope this gives Purdue's Offense the confidence it need to compete while throwing deep!

11. The multi-QB thing was interesting and really played to their strengths.
Really thought that was a stroke of genius in this game. As good as AOC played, he is a player a defense can settle in against. As is Plummer. Using all three in a planned manner prevented the Iowa defense from getting comfortable in one particular look/gameplan. Of course, each QB had to execute to make it work and they did. In an ideal situation, you have one QB that can do it all but I thought this was a great curve ball to temporarily scheme around our current QB situation where all can provide something but not enough to win on their own.

What do you mean Bell finally played his part?

What do you mean Bell finally played his part?
He had a monster break out game where Purdue threw it deep. Too often it appears Bell is in single coverage but Purfue wouldn't or couldn't throw deep. We need him to stretch the defense, make big plays, and lead this team.

The play calling but always cracks me up. When a coach calls a play, fans decide if the play was effective or not. If it wasn’t, fans are critical of the call.

Brohm called a run, an option play on 3rd and long. The brilliance of the play call was that it was man coverage and once the RB got the pitch outside the DE he had an opportunity to pick up the first down. The DB’s were easily blocked bc the were playing man.

My point is that it was an obvious passing situation and only worked bc he called the run play. In football the play caller has to do some unexpected stuff to really take advantage. But if it doesn’t work we have to give out coach some latitude. He knows what he’s doing.

Wonder if the NCAA will do anything about the PU player drinking the beer that was thrown at him. Might if they find out he is under age. NCAA does weird thing anymore....

Highly doubt it. Let the kid have some fun

That was Greg Long, who’s a fifth year guy. He’s probably 23. What NCAA rule did he break? I almost wish the NCAA would say something because the mockery they would subsequently endure would be great. It went viral. I was perusing other B1G boards last night and saw it almost everywhere.

I hope we stick with that QB rotation....at least through next week! We're going against a similar defense in Whisky next week!

The unsportsmanlike call wasn't egregious. On replay it didn't look like he kicked the ball, like the (radio?) announcers said. It looked like it could have been simply an emotional reaction (celebration?) to a phenomenal defensive series.

Not saying it shouldn't have been called (although I've seen much worse that went ignored). The player (Marvin Grant?) needs to show more discipline in moments like that, but I don't think it was an egregious violation.

The fumble call (the correct call) is also one of those things that happen. Trying to stretch for a TD to put the game away, and the ball comes loose. Risk/reward. Had it been a factor in losing the game, he'd be getting some serious grief here, but that's an excusable error, in my book.

Maybe I'm too gracious in victory... 😉

I agree - I love the children's wave.

Finneran has been solid and his miss two weeks ago was not his fault. I am glad to read how the wind probably sailed his only real miss of the season.

I loved reading how David Bell did not know his stats until his mother told him after the game.

I am also thrilled with how well the QB's congratulate each other.

As good as how well everyone played, the game ball should go to the OL. They improved immensely. IMO, they must have had some nagging injuries and the extra week must have really helped them.

Watching on TV, the Iowa QB tried to stretch out the ball after the whistle was blown and the Purdue player slapped it out of his hands and again when the ref reached for it. So yes, it should have been called. And in all fairness, I think their QB got the 1st down.

Didn't say it shouldn't have been called. (I wrote, "Not saying it shouldn't have been called...")

Petras was close, but not close enough!

I totally agree with you on the fumble on the pylon. I’d rather see our guys go for plays like that when there’s a massive chance they get it. That would’ve been quite the back breaker! And on national TV to show our guys playing at that level at all positions was pretty sweet for recruits. What a game for recruits to say “I think I’d like to play here”..

I never really thought about the week off helping them with some nagging injuries. But that Hass to be part of the situation when you look at how well they played yesterday against that defense!

All due respect I don’t think Iowa ever got comfortable against AOC BUT I still do think it was a good idea because no team gameplans for three QBs. I would like to see brohm design a play for Burton where he hits a nice pass though because then teams won’t be able to assume he’s like a Jack Coletto

Bell is constantly bracketed and or doubled .. Iowa plays a zone and bell beat the zone all day

If celebrating the Iowa game was like the end of major league me and you would have been jumping up and down like Harris and Cerrano 😂😂

Agree that you can't fault Sheffield for what happened. Was a great effort and he was being aggressive going for a TD. Almost any player would have done the same. Just sucks that it slipped from his hand.

Maybe they will come up with some sort of stupid rule about drinking alcohol while playing. But it's not like he brought his own cooler!

you need the protection to throw deep, yesterday the OL did well, they held up in ptotection, did enough for a run game, and few penalties.

I'm with you. Play-calling is very dependent on the success of the play. If it works, it was a good playcall. If it didn't, it wasn't. Prime example is the complaining about throwing a crossing route to Anthrop 4 yards short of the sticks. He didn't catch it anyway, but the complaint was that the pass was short. Bad play call. But then AOC hit Bell on a crossing route 4 yards short of the sticks on 3rd down. He got away from a shoestring tackle and took it 50 yards down the sideline. Good play call.

I think of a guy has a shot at the pylon by reaching out the ball, he’s going to do that 100 out of 100 times.

A teaching moment for sure. Want the TD, but the team needs points in close games. Like the attitude, but be smart.

I didn't think I implied they did. And I think shuffling the quarterbacks is a reason why.

My gut reaction was that it was the most awesome damned thing I’ve seen In QUITE some time in college football but he’s going to get into some kind of trouble.

upon further reflection, I can’t imagine that the NCAA actually has a rule about that because it’s such an unlikely occurrence so he’s probably in the clear and PU gets some viral pub out of it that should show up on video screen packages/promo materials for a long time.

Maybe Purdue will impose some sort of punishment or reprimand to satisfy the NCAA.

My bad, I kept reading zone going into the week from some of their fans. They went man and didn’t double … I was anticipating the former

Ok, no problem.

I will respond quickly on a message board without being as careful as I should. When I said, on other threads,I was expecting a 9 win season by this year after Brohm's first two seasons I meant a team capable of posting a 9 win season. Not that they would start averaging 9 wins per season.

Well if we get that I’ll be elated.. but now that you’ve clarified that, it’s not my expectation for this year.. maybe next. A lot of that has to do with what I’m willing to expect of a coach who comes to Purdue. Purdue has not set themselves up over the decades to make demands

Why? Dudes like a 6th year. Gotta be legal. Somebody threw a beer at him. He picked it up and enjoyed the moment. If fans…24 year old fans can have a beer at the game…why not a player?

ESPN talk show Monday night (Golic/Canty) says the picture of Long with the beer should be displayed in the CFB Hall of Fame. They are efforting to find him and have him on their show. They said it didn’t hurt that he’s number 69.
