Walker drops Purdue committment and reopens recruiting???

Yep, per his Twitter: “@Cj_Walker1: I'm sorry to all fans, coaches, and players but I've decided to de-commit from Purdue and open my recruitment!â€￾

Who knows with kids nowadays. If a player doesn't want to be here, then glad he backed out on his word now as opposed to coming here and disrupting what is going to be a bright future for Purdue.

Good luck to him. We will be fine without him.

If this were a forward, SG, post then I wouldn't be concerned. But painter has a disconnect with PG and other coaches are using that against him would be my guess.

We still have a big need a PG next year and into the future. Maybe PJT and Scott step up and fill that void but I think that is hopeful at best, especially since 1 COULD transfer. I didn't think Walker was a great recruit, but this does leave a void looking down the road. Painter's inability to secure a solid PG (outside of Octeus for 1 year) since LJ is concerning.

Ouch????

I never saw the young man play but MAYBE he really looked at the style of PG needs to run the system Purdue runs and feels like he doesn't fit! He gave us ample time to recruit someone else and so far has not said anything negative so as another poster said, move on don't waste anymore time on him and find another PG that fits the system!

To be honest . . .

I'm glad. The dude is tiny and has mediocre long-range jumper, so I never understood why we jumped all over him so early.

There are a lot of excellent PG's still undecided for this class, so I'm very confident that Painter, despite my trepidations about his recruiting abilities, will replace Walker with a better prospect.

Re: To be honest . . .

How does this impact signing Swanigan? Aren't the two of them good friends? Wouldn't be shocked to see both end up with Izzo.

Re: To be honest . . .

MSU isn't mentioned in his schools he is looking at. Xavier has been after him for a bit. Butler, Creighton, South Florida are the others. He isn't interested in running Purdie's motion offense and wants a faster paced style of play. But again if you look at Walker his game is similar to Ronnie and Bryson and I'm sure Chris Mack has made that abundantly clear to,the young man.

starting from korey spates, how many point guards have Painter recruited from high school that didnt finish here. LJ seems to be the only that panned out. That's not good. Our BB recruiting scares me. 2015 and 2016 so far are not shaping up too well.

Re: To be honest . . .

Can't see how it would especially if CS sees himself as a one and done type player since CJ wouldn't be there for CS's one season.

Lewis Jackson, and then if one wants to consider them point guards (to a degree), Keaton Grant and Chris Kramer. I think that's it (3) for all of the 4-year scholarship point guards in the Painter tenure.

Shhhh. Though shall not question Painter on this board. It's our gain and his loss and we are better for it, etc.

I thought that was your sole purpose on here LOL

This just proves the point that maybe we don't necessarily need a traditional point guard, but rather someone who can play good defense, makes smarts decisions, has good (not great) ball handling skills, understands the game, AND CAN SHOOT (would be nice)

I thought Spates was a SG.???

I'm sure X's deep run in the tourney didn't hurt their chances, give his offer to DJ Wilkins or the Simpson kid from Ohio.

I think that this might be best for everyone then. Purdue needs a point guard who accepts his role in the motion offense.

I don't know much about Wilkins, but I like that he's a football player and that he has good size. (Sounds like he has a few things in common with Weatherford.)
