VINCENT EDWARDS

is the key to this team. When he's engaged we are really good. Our ceiling is really high.
He was really the only one taking it to the basket tonight. CE seemed to be settling for jumpers, so it was nice to see VE attack the rim. He also seemed on a mission playing in Ohio.

dakota early vince later. Loved his offensive board with nobody around as two went after Biggie to make sure he wasn't getting the board.

Other than VE rebounds there isn't much of a comparison in their game. Troy Lewis more than Todd.
offensive boards in particular. Todd was a great two foot jumper, better than Vince and stronger and more powerful inside. Vince is a more skillful player it seems to me. Troy moved without the ball unlike anyone since...but back then you could do that without that hideous clock

He does not remind me of any of the 3 Amigos. Lewis was a shooter, Vince is not. Mitchell was a rebounder &a freakishly strong athlete. Not Vince. Stephens was a PG. Not Vince. Maybe closer to Doug Lee.

Fantastic game from VE tonight. 16 points, 7 reb (4 off) and 4 assists? Solid.
Aside from the actual numbers, they were big points and big rebounds and big assists on several occasions as well...he was solid indeed, and then some, as he came up big for Purdue tonight in a game where they desperately needed him to.

Hopefully it expands from here. It was a homecoming for him. his best game this year. If he stays this fired up. Purdue can be very good.

Yes this is the starting lineup that is needed... Haas needs to stay coming off the bench and 15 to 20 minutes max

Agree. He had some bad TOs tonight he needs to work on.

I'm guessing this is sarcasm? VE only had 1 TO vs. Ohio State.

I would say VE, CE, Swanigan, Haas, and Painter are the biggest keys to regular and postseason success. Those four are the four most talented players and go-to-guys (Options: 1. CS 2. VE 3. CE 4. IH) and Mathias (he's good but Painter plays him 2-3 more minutes than he probably should), Thompson, Cline, Smotherman, and Albrecht are the supporting cast. That's how I view this team.

Boiler Up

Vince can shoot (look at his career numbers up to this point) but more than anything I would define him as a playmaker.

This is what is hilarious about this forum. Early on in the season when Vince was struggling, people said he should be on the bench and has no skills blah blah blah.

Now he is our savior and everyone has jumped on his bandwagon again, where I never left, unless something changes and his production goes in a slump again.

This forum couldn't be anymore fickle and it entertains me.

Through the first ten games or so, VEs numbers were actually nearly identical to last season (posted in an earlier thread).
probably a reaction to increased expectations than anything else
he seemed to do well again with the lineup many have been hoping to see also

I have no doubt VE and DM were ecstatic to provide the home fans in Columbus, Ohio with a message from two former high schoolers from the Buckeye State. They were Ohio players of the years in their respective divisions, IIRC.

Going to need them if the Boilers want to reach their potential, which I think can still be a very good result.....new heights. The opportunity will be there.....just have to be ready and tough enough to do it.

I'm not sure fans are really as fickle as you're making them out to be. It's just that things aren't static.

I thought it was a good idea to bring him in off the bench back when he struggled through a stretch in early December. He has bounced back very well starting with the second half of the ND game. That's great for Purdue as we move into the heart of the B1G schedule.

At the moment, Haas is working through some struggles. Maybe we'll see less of Isaac and more of Vincent as Purdue faces more athletic teams in the B1G.

Roles can change over the course of a season. Guys get hot. Guys go into slumps. Match-ups often dictate how much guys play.

The same people that were calking for him to be benched are praising him now LOL. You guys could of waited more than 5-6 games to let him get into the flow of the season
