Vince

Starting to see the emergence of an Etwaan like leader with VE. Steadying influence making the big plays at the right time.

I like the sound of that, SIBoiler2. Vince won't need to score 24 every night, but it would be HUGE if he could shoot the 3 at a 40%+ rate for the rest of the year.

Purdue desperately needs to find a consistent 3-point rhythm to keep teams from attacking AJ and Isaac with 2 or 3 guys every time they touch the ball.

His offensive boards were also a difference maker last night.

It seems to me that Vince is, unlike so many others, not a player who seeks out attention and accolades. He's a team guy who just wants to win, and he loves to see his mates do well. I think now he's realizing he needs to be the guy in order for the team to win, and he is gradually accepting that. Go Vince!

He had a solid game, minus a few careless turnovers. His unselfishness is what makes the team that much better too.

Vince is a matchup problem much like Robbie. His emergence is the path forward. If one of the 2/3's (DM KS RC) can rise with him, this team becomes a top level contender.

Vince seems to play better at the 4. Just saying.
the biggest thing from the Iowa loss was that Vince didn't get injured on that one play. He's our best player and a very good, calm team player. Vince along w/ Thompson at least have improved on their outside shooting since last year.

Saw glimpses of Ray starting to come around last night as well.

I was really underwhelmed w/ last night's performance, I'm glad we're 18-4 but we are so inconsistent that at this rate I see some lower seeded team beating us say in the 2nd round of the big dance.

This is what I, and what I would hope, we have been waiting for. We have one of the best bigs in the NCAA in Hammons. We DESPERATELY need a go-to player offensively who can create with the ball in his hands, and VE is that guy. He's not the most athletic guy, although he is deceivingly athletic, but he just gets it. He is sort of like E'twaun Moore in that aspect. Not the most athletic, but had absolutely no weakness in his game and would make you pay if you messed up.

I thought that towards the last 10 minutes against Iowa, VE sort of took matters into his own hands and started creating shots. Some may call it ball hog, but YOU NEED someone on the offensive end who makes the opposing team quiver a little bit. If he can become that guy, it will make players like Mathias, Cline, Stephens, Thompson, Davis, so much better. The way it is now, the opposing defense is basically putting emphasis down low, and letting everyone else just be within arms reach of your guy.

Although it was a tight win, I was very happy with what I saw. VE needs to be taking 15 shots a game, as long as they're good shots. If he's doubled, then I have no doubt he'll make the right play. He's the guy who can put us back into the conversation of title contenders.

Unless he is in foul trouble he shouldn't leave the floor. With all the TV timeouts, halftime, coaches timeouts, video replays...... There is plenty of down time for rest/recovery.

No argument here, Dry, although with CS playing, I don't think you'll see 39 again.

Vince is our best all around player and needs to play (aggressively) pretty much the entire game. Period. He is the only one on the team that can create his own shot, plus he's a hell of a rebounder. I'm not a coach and never have been. Just enjoy watching good, entertaining ball. I've seen some people say that in Painter's offense the 3 and 4 are the same. Others say when CS is in it creates a spacing issue. I miss most games because I'm on the other side of the world but I'm a believer you play your best players and CS is one of our best. I believe Vince can create with or without CS on the floor.

The spacing issue isn't a problem with our offense, they haven't utilized spacing as a team very well. If anything, Hammons/Haas should have more space to work with (and guards more gaps to drive) than last year with the addition of Swanigan.

While Swanigan has really brought some amazing rebounding, we need him to take that "freshman step forward" sooner than later. Everyone loves to compare everything to the Baby Boilers - remember E'Twaun struggled through his first couple months before really turning it on and JaJuan really didn't "turn it on" until late his freshman year.

Spacing IS the problem. It's not the centers, but the presence of Swanigan that is clogging up the lane. We get plus in rebounds that way, but slashing part of Vince's game took a hit nonetheless. Last year when Vince was the power forward, he had his pick of plays by dragging the opponent's power forward outside, and could drive into the empty lane where the opponent's center was too preoccupied with Hammons to do anything. Now, Swanigan is filling the spot where Vince used to slash into. Davis is also in the same position offensively.

This is not anyone's fault, or a big enough problem to tweak the line-up. If anything, this is a luxury many teams would die to have. It's just that Vince has to adjust to the new role. He has done a fine job so far, but he still has a way to go. Besides, my only beef with Vince is that he is not assertive enough. I hope things change next season when he will no longer has Hammons or Davis to stand behind. Purdue next year will go as far as Vince takes us.

Yep, VE will have some turnovers but he gains net positives more often than not. He just needs to stay aggressive. Embracing and finishing through contact is an area that I believe he will improve. He is a "go-to-guy".
