VIDEO: Mike Bobinski press conference

In case you do not want to watch the entire video, here are the finer points of this press conference. This is what is said in the video, not my opinion. You will see a couple of opinions on a few lines, but easy to see which ones.

*IU game was not the final straw. This had been in motion for quite some time.
*He was asked when or what game did doubts start to come up about making a switch. He did not know the exact date, but it had been going on for several weeks.
*Main thing that Walters did not do was execute on either side of the ball. It is a game of execution to win. Purdue football has been successful in the past and will be again.
*Walters is the only one that has been let go, but he anticipates that other coaches will probably leave too.
*Someone asked him about the Andrew Luck Stanford GM thing. He said that we have had someone in that type of position for the last 2 years, but that position would be evolving over time. I did not know we had a football GM.
*Walters took the firing professional and was apologetic for the performance over the last 2 years.
*It sounded like he had put out the word to potential candidates for several weeks indirectly. They will not rush to hire someone, but it sounded like it would be within the next 7 to 10 days, since they have been working on this for several weeks.
*HC and staff salaries does not have a limit. They will hire the best candidate for the job. I am not sure I am confident on that statement but will give the benefit of the doubt.
*A lot of talk about NIL. Bobinski said that the Boilermaker Alliance will start to change and evolve. Did not go into specifics. He said that Purdue would be embracing the NIL for their student athletes to compete. He wants the new coach hired to embrace the NIL and have a plan in place. If I understood it, and this was the only thing I did not exactly understand, it sounded like Bobinski was saying that indirectly that Walters did not embrace the NIL and the current NIL environment. That could be a wrong assumption, because he did not specifically say that Walters did not embrace it, but who else would he have been talking about? Might also make sense why our recruiting was so poor.

Hope everyone likes the summary.

Thank you good sir. There are a lot of rather eye opening things there that some speculated weren't/aren't happening but actually are.

The GM thing was VERY interesting.

Without listening and just based on what you wrote, sounds like he gave safe answers. A little different than Morgan Burke who would have spent time talking about financial guardrails and whatnot.
Glad to hear they've had feelers out for a while now. I assume he's got his shortlist of 3-4 interested candidates.

Great summary. The only other take away i had was regarding walters staff. He brought up they had nobody to replace the oc and walters had to switch to an uncomfortable position. I dont recall his exact words but said his staff never gelled or were cohesive. I thought that was interesting....also said a coach that could bring staff and players would be a plus so im assuming hes really focusing on current head coachs.

Without saying it, as we all know, Walters was over his head with this job. He needs to gain some experience at a smaller school and maybe he will be ready in a few years. Then again, maybe not. Not everyone is cutout to be a good head coach.

Yes, it sounded like they are looking at only current head coaches for sure. However, with no recruiting class to speak of and all of the transfers out, it is going to be imperative that the new head coach bring players and know how to play the Transfer Portal correctly. If Bobinski was giving it to us straight, it sounded like the purse strings will be open for the new coach. If that is correct, I say bring it on. I would love to see us compete for recruits in football like we do in basketball.
