"I expected the best " and Purdue gave me every indication that they gave us all they had at this time! Watched the game live and again this morning....I stand very encouraged about the Boilermakers. 1) We need to have a good crowd show up for our Friday Night Lights home opener. 2) hope the team is very hungry to win vs Ohio with a short turn around time between games 3) other than Jones do we have any significant injuries? 4) wondering, not questioning, who starts at QB 5) with this staff on board I do expect the old FB cliche to occur, "a team will show the most improvement between games 1 and 2"!

Was it perfect, hell no, was it exciting hell yes....been along time since I watched a Purdue game from start to finish...looks like I will be doing that a lot this year....BOILER UP!

very impressed with the effort... light years beyond the Hazel crap-fest. Louisville was sloppy, but that does not detract from a superb effort from our guys.

Next week is the key for me... can Purdue "bring it" with the same intensity against a non-ranked team? Can they be focused, motivated, and poised at home, with definitely something to lose????

We played great, but we will be much better next week. This staff knows what they are doing and they will have us much improved for Ohio. There will be no let down. Brohm knows how to get teams ready to play.

Something to possibly thank Burke for here. A Friday night game as the first night season opener with the new permanent lights might be a good fire to stoke all week for the team to play against a very good Ohio team before traveling to Missouri (shouldn't need extra motivation for playing away at an SEC team). Shame that Purdue couldn't get the win because they could have been staring at a 3-0 start with two wins against P5 programs and another against a potential G5 conference champ. That would probably place them in the top of the conference for impressive non-conference outcomes.

A few points:
  • A friend of mine who used to be a head high school coach sat in the front row last night directly behind the defensive bench. He was incredibly impressed with Holt and said he saw more coaching by Holt in one game than he had seen from Hazell and Co in their four years.
  • I've also learned that the current staff has had to really push to get back into some Indiana high schools. Hope and Hazell so turned off many of the IN high school coaches that they would not even take this new staff's calls. What in the $%#@$ were Hope and Hazell thinking and how in the world did Burke allow this to take place for so many years? Remember Hope's (and I continue to think Burke's) goofy "futuristic recruiting plan"?
  • This fall, the defense has been man-handling the offense in practice. The staff was not quite sure what to make of this. What we now know after last night is that the defense is solid. The offense, largely because of Brohm, can generate some points, though I imagine it will be a struggle at times this year.
  • I also know the staff is really concerned about depth. They have mentioned this in the press, but are even more concerned privately. The new recruiting classes cannot get in here quickly enough. It is likely we will see more juco's for a year or two.
  • I would love to know what the staff now thinks after last night. Were they pleasantly surprised or is this where they thought they might be? They hit a home run on national TV, and this great showing will accelerate the rebuild.

As long as the QB can make quick decisions and not turn the ball over, the offense will put up points. Hence why Blough was pulled.

Pretty matches what I saw. Much better coached team. We seem stronger, but I think we still lack size and may get pushed around on defense by Whisky or OSU. We also lack speed. UL could have run past us m any times except for good coaching on our part and some questionable play calls by UL. Speed and size need to come from better recruiting, which takes time.
