23+ additions in obvious areas of need is a good start with more to come before the start of the 2nd Semester!
It's possible we could have 18+ of 22 new starters when we play our first game next season.
Which 4 or 5 returning guys do you feel confident in starting next year? Generally curious as I think your estimate is on point.
Of the returning players, the ones I see as having the best chance to retain a starting spot would be:
Mockobee - running back
Breedlove - corner back or 5th defense back
Porath - kicker ( mainly because nothing out of portal)
Our long snapper since he withdrew his name from the portal.

It's possible we have 10 new starters on D.
But...I will say, there's an opportunity to upgrade the talent at every position. But, something tells me is wasn't all a lack of talent, the coaching had a lot to do with the disaster last year.
Need to find some defensive linemen. We were decimated there and haven't added much.
agree, think the secondary and LB corps will be better, nice pickups at wr recently
great list, and damn it’s a lot to rebuild. I was wondering about Omnode as he seemed to get lost in the scheme this past year. Hopefully he’s one of a lot of surprises in the locker room where we know from following recruiting that the team isn’t as talentless as CRW made them look.
That’s kind of sad you don’t see existing players stepping into starting roles next year and the portal players who really didn’t do much have a better chance of starting than our existing players. That shows a total lack of development by our previous coaching staff. Its my hope the future changes and we actually start developing the players we have.
I think Mockabee is better than many people give him credit for. I think if there is a recruit that out performs him then that is going to great for our team. Mock occasionally has had an issue with a few fumbles but it’s not an every game out issue. I think given the chance he’s going to have a great year.
We are up to 27 transfers now.
I like the potential of the WRs that we have gotten so far, but none of them are proven commodities It would really be nice to pick up a WR that has some big-time statistics with their previous team.

I like Mock. Can get you the tough yards, good ball catcher, but does have a fumbling problem and lacks the ability to break the big play.
I ageee with you. Mock is RB1. Purdue isn’t getting a better portal RB than him unless they pay the bucks and that kid probably still isn’t coming due to the shape the program is in right now. Would be nice to have a nice 1 - 2 punch so Mock isn’t over used.
What do you expect when 90% of the starters are gone so guessing the depth chart in January is a total crab shoot outside of a few guys. But yes lack of development was one of many things the previous coaches lacked.

How many other B10 teams would Mock start for?
Like I said, he's a decent back, but lacks burst and doesn't have home run capabilities. I think that position could be upgraded in the portal. You can still get him the ball 8-12 times a game, but maybe not as your primary RB.
Maybe 3 +/- counting Purdue.

Yes because I believe you need 2 solid backs to be productive in the BigTen but I’m trying to be realistic on who Purdue could even add at this point because this program is a hard sell right now. They got the kid from VT but I don’t see him being any better than what Mock brings so who knows if they’ll add any more RBs.

?? Everyone left. We will have several players from this years roster starting for P2 teams. Thieneman, Heldt, Klare are studs. It wasn’t necessarily lack of development it was lack of discipline, playing hard, and most of all scheme. It also is we don’t have big $$. Our entire offense left except for Mockobee who has also developed into a solid player. The guys who are named as potential starters on OLine were NOT talented (Ethan Trent, Bakyne, Jaden Ball). Our starting RB is a walk-on. Our team is full of low 3-star talent.
Offense
I think we will have a WR emerge like Ahrmad Branch. Mockobee obviously. And I think we will have an offensive lineman or two who come through such as Tanona, Bakyne Oley, and/or Jaden Ball.
Defense
Breedlove and maybe Smiley Bradford. I think we can have a FS emerge like Luke Williams or Ty Hudkins. At DT we could have Omonode and maybe see some Drake Carlson in the rotation. I’m sure CJ Madden will think he’s got a chance to come in.
And BTW, It’s Dixon-Veal.

Other teams also lose starters, maybe not as many as Purdue did this year. But it is very disheartening that we have nobody who was second or third on our depth chart that is predicted to step up and become a starter. And that all the new starters will have to come from the portal. Other teams use the portal to provide depth. Or they add a starter who was a starter at their previous school and generated awesome stats. Purdue looks to the Portal to find backups who will start at Purdue. What did Card do at Texas before he was anointed as Purdue’s starting QB? There was kind of a reason Texas recruited other QBs who beat him out. We now have 27 new players from the portal. Is there nobody who was second string last year at Purdue who is predicted to start this year? Sure, we lost a lot of players. But out of the 40-60 that remained, is there anybody who might become a starter? A Wr? On the line? Secondary? Was our depth that bad? And we developed nobody other than our starters? At Iowa, van ness wasn’t a starter and he was a first round draft pick. I still can’t believe Iowa has consistently been better than Purdue. What do they have that Purdue doesn’t have? More corn?
We will not know starters for a long long time. Odom probably wants to take a long hard look at those who did stay behind once spring practice begins. There’s a lot of uncertainty being a 2nd or 3rd string player on a team that went 1-11 and yes, development was crap from this last staff. Walters team actually regressed from the year prior.
Iowa has a coach that has been there 25 years and has had sustained success. Iowa City is also a very cool college town with a lot to offer.
Seemed like the main town was a shorter distance to campus compared to Lafayette to Purdue’s campus.
Are we talking Lafaryette or WL? I mean, why would anyone from campus want to go into Lafayette? Unless you were going to Sgt Prestons or something like that?
One of the things I love about Purdue's campus is the walkability, including the village area, bars, restaurants, shops, etc.
When’s the last time you were there? Not many bars left unless you want to wait 2 hours to get into Harry’s and doesn’t look like any are popping up anytime soon in the future. Because of this more students are venturing into Lafayette.
Good point. It's been a while so perhaps my view doesn't reflect recent reality. But, when I was there, we had Harrys, Stacks, Edo's, and a handful of other places in the village.
That’s awesome. Stacks was gone by the time I got there but heard great things. Even Sgt. Prestos gone now.
CJ Nunnally the DE from Akron looks to be a starter - all Mac conference the past 2 years. Giordano Vaccaro out of Canada should start or be in the rotation - he won the Metras Trophy awarded to lineman of the year basically in Canada. These 2 look like really solid pick ups for Purdue.
Certainly the number of bars in West Lafayette has diminished but the better and cheaper option was drinking at the Greek System houses especially at the ones that were not owned by the University!
