There has been a great deal of consternation over our dribble penetration defense this season, and rightly so.
It was significantly better tonight. To what do you credit the improvement?

Vince was again awful in the first half of the game on defense. Now, I'll admit I didn't watch the second half at all, so he may have improved..but what I saw was a lazy defender who didn't appear once to get in to a solid defensive stance.

At some point, defense is simply a player wanting to play hard and put forth effort...a player of Vince's caliber shouldn't be struggling with defense the way he is unless, simply put, he isn't putting forth the effort needed to be successful on that end of the floor.

IMO, Vince is concentrating too heavily on his offensive output due to Haas' and Biggie's dominance at this point during the season. I think Vince is hunting his shot and has a bit of sour grapes. I can understand against Nova' with struggling at times...but against a team like USU to have VE struggling to play basic man to man concept defense for most of the first half...comes down to a lack of effort.

A very weak and taller team. Even so, they STILL picked up enough fouls that we had to bench our bigs prematurely. Wait til tomorrow - Auburn likes to drive !

I agree. USU is not an athletic team at all. The more I watched the Aub/TT game the more I was cheering for TT. Auburn is going to give us problems with dribble drives. IH and CS need to stay out of foul trouble.

VE needs to get it together and start playing well. His defense was terrible again last night. He just seems out of it.

Not worried about Auburn at all. Yes Purdue has a weakness to dribble drive, but that is much less than Auburn's weakness to size and interior play. IH and CS will be the difference.

I'm worried about Auburn. There's some talent on this team and Pearl can coach, even though he is a sleaze ball. They beat GSU handily. For their first 4 games they have been amazingly consistent. Scoring in the 80s and only giving up 60 or so.

The downgrade in competition helped. Josh Hart at 'Nova is as good as anyone they'll face this year.

I think everyone got too comfortable with AJ patrolling the cylinder last year. They may need a few games to figure themselves out on defense.

This should be another good test in facing a different type of defensive obstacle. IH/CS are going to get challenged I expect.
