update on portal

iu is our in-state, blood rival. Especially after iu gave Purdue the waxing they did this year, there's now a serious revenge factor component.
I know I’m not alone in thinking that beating Notre Dame in football is one of the best Purdue experiences, but having seen that you’re a reversible jersey guy for ND I get that you can’t understand that this is our in state football rivalry. Basketball is different - the key to rivalry (and blood rival is just lame) is that there has to be a storied history between the two teams. IU has never sustained any success in football, but Purdue has a reputation as the Spoilermakers built on upset wins over dominant top 5 teams (most in the nation) and that is built on several big wins over ND. My personal favorite was the 1997 win that propelled Tillers success at Purdue.

I still remember the 2009 game when Hope called a timeout with around 24-25 seconds left that probably would have sealed the victory. I remember looking to my buddy and yelled "your coach called a timeout with zero left. That's a penalty". He replied: your dumbass coach called it.

When I see people talking about Painter scheduling a tough OOC on the football forum I have to shake my head.

Two completely different situations when you have 30+ games and a 68 team tournament which makes SOS very important and where a couple of bad losses matter a lot less than when you have 12 games and can only lose 6 of them and where SOS doesn't determine where you play a bowl game or even whether or not you play in the playoffs.

Different programs too. One played in the national title last year and have been consistent in the big ten for some time while the other is about as low as you can get.

No guarantee you rebuild 2 years 20 years 200 years. Just play quality opponents.

Playing a national televised game is great for both schools. In state and God forbid we become good again it will bring in ratings.
How did playing a nationally televised game and getting blown away by ND work out? We lost all of our best recruits and almost all of our best players to the portal. Any recruit that saw that nationally televised game immediately scratched Purdue off their list.

A recent article talked about all big 10 teams most impactful portal players. There were some pretty impressive players going through the portal to big 10 teams. The most impactful player coming to Purdue was the QB from Arkansas. I recall when everyone went crazy when Card came to Purdue. I’m excited!
