update on portal

Portal has closed now until April, so I guess we really will not know who we are going to have on this team until late Spring. Should make for interesting Spring practices this year.

Players can still sign with new schools after the portal closes they just have to have their name entered in before the deadline closes. Looks like they have a handful of guys visiting after the new year so a lot can change in the next few weeks before the semester starts.

Meh. It was coaching. 1000%

Not to say he’s great or ready to contribute at a school like Clemson but he was out there doing what he was told. It was bad and totally the wrong thing but he had no LBs to back him up and got benched a few times for making plays but not in the flow of what was called on defense.

We should be just fine without him but he’s a guy who still has potential to be good at the CFb level.
That Mitchell Melton would be a nice get if we had the ca$h and he has the interest.
OLB from OSU.

I like that we're getting portal guys, new toys are always fun. Wish we were getting more guys from P5 programs or guys who are instant impact.
It pains me to see iu getting guys from OSU, UM, etc. I mean, what player say "Yes, I want to go play at Indiana......"

Listen i like what barry odom and his staff is doing in the offseason now put that on the field and purdue going to be all right
I think w/ his guidance and his experience along w/ a young energetic DC this D will be alot tougher and formidable than previous yrs

Just got your wish. Just picked up a DE from UM.
Ask and you shall receive.....shortly after posting, we get a commit from a UM DE and a Tenn WR. That seemed to work well.

Let's try it again....."I wish for an SEC RB, 6'-6'1, 215, 4.4 40. I'd also like another LB or 2: 6'2-6'3, 225-240, 4.6 40s. And while we're at it, how about a couple of B10 OL transfers."

Lots of names, but seems like a lot of guys who didn't see the field in their last place. Hope they come here and produce. I'm putting my faith in Odom, but a little worried we're just trying to field a team right now.
Do most of these guys transfer in for the 2nd semester so they're immediately in the program?

Agreed. Lots of athletes here who held offers from solid programs. Who knows why it didn’t work out at their last stops but hoping Odom is able to get the best out of them. Can’t be worse than last year at least.
I'm a big believer in stars and what offers a kid had received. Yeh, it's not a guarantee but it shows how other high majors evaluated the talent. Now, it's a matter of having the right coaching to tap and maximize that talent.

Yeah, coach is mainly just bringing in bodies, which is what he has to do based on the job he has undertaken. Most of these guys have never done a thing in college. A few have played, and they will need to be major contributors. But as for guys like the UM De and the UT WR...I'll never get excited again about a transfer from a big program that was a non factor there lol

The tough piece is securing the entel on whether these players without as much playing time are show dogs or true hunting Dawgs?????!

I agree that there should at least have some good players out of the potral players we are getting. I also like that some went to upper tier schools. But then I also remember Nyland Green came from Georgia. He was not good. He acted like he had never played CB before.

They were also coached by a staff that was in way over their heads so it’s hard to tell if his true potential was ever reached. Walters could’ve gotten Travis Hunter in the portal and would’ve probably still found a way to make him look like shit.

Nyland Green = Selwyn Lymon

Selwyn Lymon was 1000x the player Nyland Green ever thought of being
Fair. I was suggesting highly touted, huge disappointment. I suppose at least Green didn’t get arrested or stabbed during his time at Purdue (although I think he had those issues at Georgia)
