Our defense is really tight, but our offense is weak. Mostly passing around the perimeter until we put up a contested shot or get the ball inside. At the quarter its 12-8 Purdue. Amiyah just brings the ball across half court, stands 38 feet from the rim dribbling, then gives it up. We run NO offense with her at point. Jones running point was responsible for 8 of our 12 points. McCarthy is giving the Cats centers a hard time at both ends and playing under control. Puryear made a nice basket just before the half. Bass is throwing up a lot of shots, but not making much, 1 of 5.

The offense is poorly coached. On our screens out players dribbling are leaving 2-3 feet between themselves and the screener. Other than those pick and rolls, the only other movement on offense are drives through the lane by Jones and occasionally Amiyah. There are no kick-outs or plays run to get out outside shooters open looks. 32-23 at the half UK. We have no one that can guard Georgia Amore, at least none have shown that ability so far.

When will this program start getting players capable of playing high level bball again? We are terrible.

Swanson should never see the court. Horrible shot selection leads to two airballs today.

We have a few players that are capable of playing high level ball, but we don't have any coaching capable of running plays that give them the chance to show what they can do. Our leading scorers are players willing to chuck it up guarded closely and shoot a crap percentage as long as they get their points. I dislike Bass. She looks very much like a player just looking to get hers and not setting up her team-mates or looking to help someone else get a better shot. McCarthy is battling hard against a quality front line, especially Strack. Puryear has shown fight and playing as part of a team. Swanson needs the offense to get her looks, she is not going to be a good player without a good point guard, and Purdue doesn't have even a competent point guard. Jones is the best of bad options we have shown this game. We are still running the 4 statues set. Four players standing in a line at the FT line extended and the point guard dribbling around the top for 3-4 seconds before anyone tries to move anywhere. Purdue women have to be one of the easiest teams to scout and guard in the nation. We do nothing well on offense and many of our players do not seem to be interested in playing team ball. If CKG is not fired, Swanson desperately needs to transfer to a school that runs a competent offense that can make use of her. She finally just got an open look and drilled it.

Things we need to fix:

Off the ball movement, there is very little of it currently.

Learn how to use a damned screen, we look like a junior high team trying to move off screens we are so awful at it. You should be rubbing your shoulder on the screeners shoulder, not leaving 2-3 feet so the trailing defender can easily go over the top and the dribbler gets no seperation.

Block out!!! Lana and Puryear luckily came in with that skill, because no one else seems to know how to do that most basic of skills, problem with Purdue since CSV first coached here.

Learn how to make a post pass, McCarthy needs to be getting more touches as she is easily our best offensive option most nights and she passes out of the post better than our guards pass ANYWHERE!!

I like McCarthy a lot, she did a good job staying out of foul trouble today. But a bunch of average players on our roster that wouldn’t be playing anywhere
Gee, you mean picking up mid major players and NAIA players doesn't work? Who knew?? And not doing ANY player development is a problem for having competitive players? WOW..... WE have the talent to be about 12th in conference. We have the coaching to make those same players 16th or worse...... Serious question, who is the worst coach, Mike Woodson at IU or Katie Gearlds at Purdue?

Any thoughts on hiring Lindsey Hicks for the next coach if we HAVE to have an alumnus as coach?

The ladies are terrible, will the team win 10 games this season? My guess would be yes but it’s not a certainty. Is Purdue’s NIL that bad where they’re not even decent anymore?

Its little to nothing to do with talent on the team, its the talent in the coaching staff that is so awful. Give her 3 million for NIL and we would be the women's version of IU men's basketball. Tops in NIL, lots of raw talent, and destined for the bottom third of the conference because of inept coaching.

shame on what has happened to the womens program esp at a school that should have a really good team

Tough loss tonight. I liked our matchup better with Maryland than UK, but I didn't expect to lose by 30, especially at home.

Positives -

Mckenna Layden - nice to see her get some run and hit a couple of 3's. She has a nice shot and on a team that desperately needs scoring/shooting, she should play more.

Lana McCarthy - 12 points, 7 rebs, 3 assists. Thought she did a decent job battling down low against some talented bigs for UK. She needs to change up her free throw routine, practice it, whatever, it's pretty ugly at times.

Turnovers- I'll take 11 turnovers every game from this team.

Negatives -

Overall team performance/coaching- no other way to slice it, this shouldn't happen on your home court. Gearlds seemed to bank on UK missing a bunch of wide open 3's which they did in the first quarter. Once the shots started falling, we didn't stand a chance. Not the best strategy to win games. I get the box and 1 to start to minimize their size, but it's a ranked power 4 school. Eventually they were going to hit those open 3's.

No one was going to stop that Amoore girl, she's a baller.

Jones - 3 TO's again, she was yanked at least once that I saw for poor play. Made some plays right when she came in so it wasn't a horrific night but that TO % needs to come down.

Collier - 28 mins and only 2 points. She is our best shooter imo, but tonight she didn't have it.

Final thoughts -

This one seemed the most disheartening of the 5 losses. It feels like we took a couple steps back as a program today, after a competitive game against a top 10 team last weekend. A full week to prepare as well. How much longer do players still buy in, and fans still show up with performances like this?

IMO Layden should start over Collier if McKenna is healthy enough for the minutes. She is a better defender, much more of a hustler, and has a better D1 developed game.

Lana was the best Purdue player on the floor tonight, but our coaches and guards are poor in getting her the ball in position to score. Agree on the FT form, but that is something you do in the off season, this year you just live with it because you tamper with it and it will get worse before it gets better. This is something a competent coaching staff would have been working on the first day she got on campus.

Amoore is good, but we made her look like an All American with some pretty poor defense and our help D was late almost every time she drove. She averages 15 for the season before this game, Strack was their leading scorer, but McCarthy and Puryear were excellent defensively on her.

Jones - 3 TO's again, she was yanked at least once that I saw for poor play. Made some plays right when she came in so it wasn't a horrific night but that TO % needs to come down.

I will live with 3 TOs from Jones having to run the point, right now she is all we have at that position that is remotely competent. Amiyah is just taking up space out there, but less so than Collier IMO.

Collier - 28 mins and only 2 points. She is our best shooter imo, but tonight she didn't have it.

Collier is the best shooter in horse maybe. But in D1 level competition her shot release is too low and too slow to get her shot off against any competent defense. And if she isn't scoring she should not be on the floor. Tonight she was just a spectator with the best view of this blowout of anyone, but not much positive as a player. Bass was better than Collier but I would not miss her if she disappeared for the rest of the year. Bass is very selfish as a player IMO and I don't think she makes Purdue better with her play.

Not as bad to me as losing to MTSU and only scoring 49 points against a mid major struggling to stay above .500 themselves so far this year. I see 3-5 more wins this season AT MOST. I watched Washington hosting Utah tonight and if you think Amoore is great, wait until you see what UW's Sellers does to our phantom defense. UW is also retiring Plum's number at our game, so they will be pumped up, like we need the extra road blocks to winning.
