Tyger Campbell

i have a hard time believing he will choose Purdue. One of the big boys will swoop him up at the last minute
Doubtful unless something wild happens and all the committed PGs ahead of him decommit.

He thought when he opened back up those offers would come but most of the “blue bloods” had their PGs.

Sounds like it’s mostly between Purdue and DePaul at this point unless he makes another campus visit.

MSU doesn't have a scholarship for him, they're out unless someone leaves
I didn't realize MSU was out of scholarships,...perhaps we are the front runner. His whole commitment/decommitment from DePaul has me a bit uneasy, but hopefully all would be good and he would be a good fit for us.

There’s a new video out showing off his very impressive ball handling skills. A backcourt of Campbell and Carsen Edwards could be very difficult to contain in a couple of years.

Add Williams to that as well. He could be really good for us.
I’m also very interested in seeing what he will do.

The reason that I mentioned Wheeler and Haarms is that Wheeler appears to have a legimate 3 point shot and Haarms has a good jumper, which I expect would give the other three a lot of room to operate and attack the basket.

It doesn't bother me at all. He thought he would go there and his buddies, including Bowen, would follow. With the coach being from Lalu, it seemed likely. DePaul didn't get anybody he was promised. He is also not a scoring guard, he benefits from talent around him. Purdue is loaded with talent and KBJ is considering Purdue. Purdue makes a lot more sense. All of the schools that are considered Bluebloodes and are currently in "better" position than Purdue have higher guards on their sights. IU may back into a top 20 player because Garlands other top choices went another direction. IU may also back into Romeo because his favorites moved on or are targets of an FBI investigation. The "top schools" filled up in a class loaded with high rated guards. Purdue landing Tyger makes a ton of sense and really benefits both parties.

Painter has carved out his niche at getting a solid player late in the game. It is surprising to me that we are as favored as we are when I barely heard anything about him before he commited to depaul. Sames goes for Ramey, but at the end of the day Purdue remains a great choice to play for.

Stanford is in the mix but unless he takes a visit there, there's not much reason to think he'll end up there.

The reason you hadn't heard anything about him is because he was just a soph in highscool class of 2019. He reclassified.

I’ll be shocked if he picks Purdue. I can think of LOTS of other recruits who are as good or better than him that would make sense for Purdue. It doesn’t mean Purdue will land them.

Ramey is on another level compared to Campbell.

Purdue has been on Tyger for a while. Painter and Lutz have a good rapport with him and Lalu. Outside of the surprise commit and reclassification, Purdue has always been in the running.

Tyger, for whatever reason, is being overlooked and regarded as overrated. He was one of the best PGs in the '19 class. He has incredibly useful skills for a pg and if he adds a jumper he will be an all-American.

Also, he is very close with Brooks. Purdue could really use KBJ. I think Purdue should go all in on Tyger, even if Ramey offers more versatility. There is far too much upside with Tyger. Fun as heck to watch and his teammates love playing with him so there is a pull to bring in other top talent.

From everything I have read, Tyger is a great kid willing to work. My initial concern was if he would buy in, but that doesn't seem to be an issue with Tyger. Not to mention, he will have a chip on his shoulder because how he is being underrated and overlooked. There isn't a player in this '18 class that Purdue has a shot at that I would take over Tyger at this point.

Are you concerned with his potential fit at Purdue? Painters current offense has his PGs playing off ball most of the time, and they need the ability to knock down the 3. Tyger is most successful when he is ball dominant. He also doesn't have a great shot (yet), so he may struggle in the motion offense. Not to mention that Nojel is supposed to be our PG moving forward.

Nojel and Tyger could easily play at the same time. Tyger breaks down defenses with his drives, but he can move the ball. Tyger makes up for not being a big time shooter with his ability to drive and distribute and getting it to the cutters or shooters. He would fit in just fine even though he is the polar opposite of PJ. But, the team going forward is different than other Painter coached teams. Very athletic and decent shooting.

It is 100% worth taking a flier on a top 50 PG and hoping he can get his 3 pt percentage in the 35-40% range. Especially with the ability to bring in KBJ and others like Jackson-Davis and Okoro. Wings and bigs love playing with a guy like Tyger. With Tygers skills and what he brings to the table, he doesn't need to shoot 40+% to be affective.

I agree that we should definitely take the risk. Not so sure Tyger and Nojel should play together though. That's a pretty rough shooting lineup,

Didn't say they were comparable players as far as their skill level (actually rated somewhat close) , and as another poster said he was top ten before changing classes. They are two players we are after that are late in the game after decommits, and in good shape to land. Trying to figure out if you're just pessimistic or trolling...hrmmm...

I'm not worried. If history is any indicator, Painter will alter the offense to utilize the best talent on his roster no matter how that talent scores the ball. Look back at Robbie's Super-Sr year ('11-12). That offense looked nothing like the current team. The top 6 guys in MPG & FGA were 3 shooters (Robbie, Smith, and Byrd) and 3 slashers that didn't shoot well from deep (LewJack, Terone, and Barlow). Painter leaned heavily on a dribble hand-off/weave action especially late in the shot clock, and it was effective at opening up driving lanes and getting his shooters looks. That team ended up being what I think is still the highest ranked KenPom AdjO team of his career (ranked #10).

Campbell isn’t top 10 in any class. Top 10=NBA talent. Tyger might be a top 100-150 kid though.

He’s not a top 10 guy but he sure looks like the part of a top 50-100 guy with plenty of potential to move up if he develops a great shot.

If Campbell comes to Purdue, I think you will see some change in the offense based on individual skills of the players that play the most. With that thought I don't believe there will be any problem as these things get adjusted. I can dream that Campbell will break down the defense and dish to Eastern for a running slam. And there will be very good shooters on the wing that will get their chances. These guys are very, very good players. And they will develop chemistry because they like each other. Actually, right here I will say the Campbell visit this weekend will determine for CMP if these guys can develop said chemistry. If they can not in CMP's mind, you may see him back off Campbell and look for someone else. So when you have very, very good players with chemistry because they like each other and CMP adjusts the offense to fit their skills, you end up with a very potent team. Let's see what happens beginning Sunday or Monday.

Wait there's another visit this weekend?

I get the sense that Tyger will be what Painter hoped Ronnie would be.

I thought I read he was visiting this weekend. If that is not the case, then I apologize for that comment. But the intent of my post still is valid. If the current players like Campbell, CMP will continue to go after him. If CMP gets him, I anticipate there will be some serious hoops in the Boilers future.
