TwinD, you are popular!

Sorry I've been a Purdue fan for much longer than you have.

And I've still never been banned from any board.
How old are you? I graduated from PU in 1988. Were you even born yet?

I got into a "discussion" with Courtnonsense and I was banned. I don't think I'm alone.

It's really easy to get banned there. I find it comical how thin skinned they and their administrators are. I didn't even say anything bad about an individual or disparage their team. I was defending AJ when their board members were throwing around rumors that he was suspended at the start of the year for smoking weed. I told them several times it wasn't true and said something along the lines of how stupid can you all be to not understand he wasn't suspended and had nothing to do with drugs. Somehow that was enough to get banned by challenging their intellect over there. Just trying to stop spreading lies.

One thing I noticed is that the Loosier faithful are thinking of TD2. They're thinking of him a lot!!!

Here's the deal....I was a huge...HUGE...IU fan. Gave them a lot of money over the years, attended games, and have become friends with a lot of the former players and their families....recruited some to play baseball for me and had some very solid inside info most of the time. Thought, and still do, that the Knight/IU way was the best in college basketball. So, they fire Knight and bring in Davis. I pointed out Davis' flaws such as no coaching experience, couldn't remember where he acquired his degree...never got through Bama....that he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and was called a racist which is about as far from the truth as Courtsense being called intelligent and Rangeline Fan ever being as smart as McPoop or Courtsense. When he "resigned" (he was given the choice to walk or be fired on a plane back to Bloomington after a humiliating loss), I pointed it out. Then comes Sampson...and if I could go back and bring my post back up, I predicted he'd have IU in big trouble within two years. Guess what happened!. Then, after being turned down by Bennett, Alford, and two or there others who you'd think would value Indiana's position, they "discover" this little weird acting, and weirder acting munchkin in Marquette....know for a fact he was all they could get after Davis/Sampson and know for a fact Crean was going to be fired as my youngest son's best friend was program/sports manager of the radio station that broadcast Marquette games....fans up there were beginning to detest him. Told them again that he's not the savior that will resurrect IU basketball. Right again. Then, there's the thing about a Voodoo lady I met doing business in Louisiana and the "Robert Montgomery Curse" that was, and still is on. I think it's laughable that they're still butt-hurt after all these years....I get a kick out of them.

And the rest is history....I started paying more attention to PU and Keady, and then came Painter who I'd watched at Delta playing against my kid. Keady's kids worked really hard, he was a grouchy old bastard which I liked, and Painter came along with a lot of what I'd watched for years at IU....motion, man-to-man and I switched.

The sad thing is, they're going to be so pissed when Crean isn't fired by Glass this year. And that's the deal.

And, once again just to rub it in....and for your viewing pleasure:

Do you have a personal connection to Purdue at all (considering your username) or is it more about thumbing your nose at the mess IUBB put themselves in? Just curious.
My late wife was a die-hard Boilermaker up until her death from a brain tumor. The only academic connection I have to Purdue is I took a couple of classes remotely that I needed. I figured she took enough crap over the years about IU, that I'd continue her spot in the PU family.

Knight was an idiot. Sure he understood basketball and the relevance of that can be debated, but he was a bully, nothing more.

I always find it entertaining to see people equate abusing power with strength. Sure he motivated his players. That isn't hard when you literally hold a young mans future in your hands. Does anyone think Alford would run until he couldn't eat if he hadn't had so much on the line to lose had he been kicked off the team?

The ends does not justify the means.

Not to argue on a PU board, I can tell you that Steve was booted from the New Castle gym more times than Knight could even think of doing and ate a lot of cold dinners. And Knight is not an idiot. Did he do things that were wrong, sure. But a lot of coaches have as have I.

Agree with that sentiment. Knight was no idiot but he had his character flaws, like most of us have. Knight just let his flaws overtake his personality...as many of us do at times.

Alford was just a simple example. I could have used readjusting Neil Reeds position I suppose.

My point is, he used fear as a motivator by abusing his power stance over his players. A great mind would have been able to do the same in a logical manner given the same knowledge of the game. So yeah, he was an idiot.

I think a simpler notion is that Knight ran his team like they were conscripts in the military and he was the General. There is a great quote from Harry Truman about when he fired McArthur that I find similar to the Knight vs the President and BOT battle. I'm paraphrasing but it goes "I didn't fire him because I thought he was dumb, I fired him because he wouldn't respect the office of the President."

I get the military reference, but it doesn't mean his method was right. Wooden motivated his players by asking them to take pride in themselves, not out of fear of reprisal.

When you perform out of fear, one is a slave. When you perform based on pride in oneself and ones own actions, one is a soldier.

Wait... if your banned you can't read post? I was always able to read post when I was banned. Just couldn't post.
I suppose I could create another sign on and get in, but no, my current sign on won't let me even access the message board.

All joking aside, it really was a very "mild" discussion we were having and next thing I know, I'm banned. I didn't go there very often and when I did I didn't try to stir any trouble. Courtnonsense was complaining about PU being obsessed with IU in a thread that was about PU. I tried to point out the irony of that and he didn't like it.

I was banned years ago... but for some reason, when the rival sites changed format, I was unbanned & able to post over there again. I don't even remember what I was banned for.

Without bringing up a lot of Wooden....he allowed his players (see Bill Walton) to do what ever they chose to do but stay out of the public with it, so yes he was different than Knight. Question...did all of Walton's players graduate?

I assume you mean, did all of Woodens players graduate? I don't know the answer to that. I also don't know if all of a knights players did either. I suppose guys like Recker and Reed can be used to show they didn't. But once again, I think you are looking only at the results and ignoring the means used to reach those results.
If you think it was genius the way he motivated his players, I can accept that as your opinion. I am not sure it is even possible to prove it right or wrong in the context outside of comparing it to the results other coaches achieved. Did he win a lot of games? Yes he did. But I can point out other results that appear to validate the means that were used to achieve them that I am sure you will agree shows a flaw in the logic you use to validate Knights achievements.

Either way, I really don't care. I have an opinion and you do as well. We both shared them now and I see no need to muddle up the board with a silly debate on common decency. So I retract all previous statements and counter with Boiler Up!

And at this time in my life, I'll toast a National title for the Boilers in 2017!
