Sounds like they talked to Gillis and Newman about it. My guess Gillis really considers it with Wheeler, Boudreax, Williams, Haarms, Dowuona filling those 4/5 spots. Painter, as much as I want to see a big line up wheeler at the 3, will go more the opposite with 4 guards including Nojel, Proctor instead if needed.
My guess is Gillis declares the redshirt up front. Newman takes a wait and see approach. If there is good guard play and rotations start to solidify after the first few games, the Newman will probably sit also, barring injury.
Surprising developments. Didnt think Newman would be considering but sounds like mentally he could use it.
Gillis 2 years off would be rough but if he's in ... a lot of people seem to like him though. Haven't seen enough to have an opinion on either
