Purdue will play host to the Truman St. Bulldogs tonight at 7:00 pm in Mackey Arena.
A couple quick hitters about the game:
Truman State head coach is Jeff Horner, a former Iowa Hawkeye that graduated in 2006. He went 5-2 against Purdue in his playing career.
His Bulldogs just played his alma mater in an exhibition game on Halloween and lost 118-72.
The Bulldogs were in it for a good portion of the first half, taking a lead 26-25 at the halfway point of the first half. Elijah Hazekamp, a 6'5" wing, paced the Bulldogs with 15 points. He's a 90% free throw shooter and made 66 three-pointers last season.
When Coach Painter talked about Truman St. yesterday he mentioned that most small schools don't have the big to challenge teams, but Truman St. has a few 4's that can play and shoot. This should challenge a promising but young front court for Purdue. He also noted that they run some similar sets as the Bearcats albeit with a different level of talent.
It will be about youth for Purdue tonight as Coach Painter says he will likely be using the same starting five he played against Cincinnati which includes two true freshman guards, Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer. Both of whom spoke about their excitement and potential nerves playing in front of a packed Mackey Arena for the first time in their careers. Trey Kaufman-Renn, Brian Waddell, Camden Heide, and David Jenkins Jr. will also be making their Mackey Arena debut.
Truman State allowed Iowa to shoot almost 65% from the field and 56% from three and were perfectly willing to play Iowa's frantic pace. There should be a lot of points put up in Mackey Arena tonight.
So with that said, what's your score predictions for Purdue's exhibition kick off against Truman St.?
