the guards in the B1G were not that good. Yogi and Melo were the best of the bunch, but overall the conference had one real solid back court in Maryland but no depth at that position. Even MSU who had Denzel as pg was hiding the fact that guard play in the conference cost it come tourney time. ND has been a tough put over the years because of the guard play, UNC backup guards could start on 13/14 Big ten teams.
Yes you need Big men, but guard play and depth carries you in tourney, especially when teams press late and the conference is really lacking in that department.
