I was thinking about it today and if you asked me to name the top 5 players on this team I'm not sure I could do it.

Not good.

Robert Kugler, Jake Replogle, Frankie Williams, Jawhuan Bentley, Anthony Brown...

That was pretty easy for me, might even throw in Deangelo Yancey over Brown if you want more offense

Other than showing how little you pay attention to who is on the field for us, which shouldn't matter to anyone here, I'm not sure what your point is.

I forgot about Danny Anthrop , wish Purdue had a whole team of guys like him
I thought I heard during the telecast of the last game that he has a younger brother that plays football. Did I hear that right? What year is he in? Is he good enough to play D1?

The youngest Anthrop is a senior and the word I have heard is that although Shoop wants him to be offered a scholarship, Hazell won't give the go ahead on it.

There is also a big time diamond in the rough at CC as well who projects as a DE and although the DC wants him, Hazell won't give the go ahead on an offer even though he has other P5 offers right now.

Perhaps a local can weigh in on this, but IIRC it appeared that Hope threw local fans a bone by offering Anthrop a scholarship as he was a small school RB who was not viewed to be a candidate for Big Ten play.

Ehhh....I don't think he had a ton of other offers, but he was rated a 3 star coming out of HS. All you had to do was look at his highlights to know that he had next level athleticism.

If the younger brother is anywhere close to him, we need to go grab him.

I would venture to say more than you think. The cream of the crop at Purdue could start or compete at most other B1G schools...the issue is that our cream may only be 5-10 guys whereas the other programs may have 20-30 of those guys. The issue at concern is quality depth which is something Tiller had plenty of when he was coaching at Purdue. I wasn't as concerned with injuries between 1999-2005 as we as fans knew there were some quality guys behind them...now, I fear any injury outside of the WR's as everyone is either unproven or just not on par with the starters.

Hazell said on his show a couple weeks back that brown and Williams get the most attention from NFL scouts, though he apparently didn't think they were capable of covering BGs receivers man to man.

It reminds me of when Pollard was at Purdue - we had the worst pass defense in the Big Ten.

I don't know how many times I have to say it, but people who celebrate a few good players don't realize the sport they're talking about. You can have the best player in the country on your team, but it doesn't matter if you have 10 other crap players. This isn't basketball where you can do a lot with 1 or 2 good players and some average guys (ala mid-majors).

Purdue's issue is simply depth. We have none of it. Two of our better players are in our secondary - yet we have one of the worst secondaries in the Big Ten.

I mean, I looked it up the other day for a different post - but we've recruited nearly TWICE as many 2 stars in the past 3 recruiting classes as....IU. Half of our team is 2 star players. It's no wonder we've struggled to beat a MAC team in the last few years. We literally have similar talent levels.

Interesting question in that it is indeed difficult to pull 5 out of the mass of mediocre players. It would have been easier in 2000, 1980, 1967, etc. or even five years ago. I question if there is anyone on the current roster with NFL potential???
