Top 20 Team

After the 2 losses and the subsequent ‘Sky is Falling’ reaction, it’s great to see the Boilers bounce back. Tremendous energy - will be a much more enjoyable plane ride home.

Truth is this is a still very talented team. When the shots are falling they can hang with anyone. Think other athletic, long teams like Tennessee will still give us fits.

Overall we still should be a top ranked team - even though we may drop out of the polls next week.

must have missed Matt going 8-30 in that game against UT...damn, should have sat himself on the bench seeing as he probably had a hard time playing with loafers and without a jock strap.

A coach controls his team or he gets the death penalty from the NCAA for lack of institutional control. Painter determines if they shoot 3s or feed the post. We lost because we didn't feed the post enough those 2 games. We didn't feed the post a ton against Arizona but we did shoot more 2 pointers than 3 pointers for a change. I know that was on purpose. See it's not hard.

You're the person that thinks a zone will help our rebounding woes the last 2 days. Lol please tell us how MP should improve his coaching some more.

Not losing to teams like Western Kentucky and Little Rock. Arizona probably won't even be in the top 25 so don't blab a big win speech yet.

I’ll likely bet Zona ends up in the top 10 again before the season is done unless Miller allows his team to totally fall apart. They have some great pieces that just need more time...uncharacteristic Defense right now from Zona and you can’t expect that young of a team to make a big turnaround in a tourney like this where you can’t practice or watch much film.

I like how all those "we don't have the athletes" posts seem to be drying up. Of course some teams have better athletes, but we have ours as well. This team wins when we feed the post, and shoot well from the outside. For what ever reason, we failed at those two things in our losses. We lost to two pretty good teams, but that is just my personal opinion.

I think we also saw why Matt doesn't play the freshmen. They were less than effective, regardless of how "athletic" they are. That will change as they get more experience, but let's just agree to stop thinking that CMP doesn't play them because he is stubborn/wants to give the seniors the stats/is colluding with Putain who has a big bet on Tennessee, okay?

Nojel will be a monster if he can shoot 35% from the arc...but he isn’t going to get there this year. He is a good defender who can use his length and physicality to bully smaller players around at times to give Carsen and PJ a rest when needed. When he figure out how to slide his feet laterally better and match that to the speed of the game (drop stepping more instead of going just laterally and picking up fouls)...he could become the lockdown defender Purdue needs once Dakota leaves next season.

I think Nojel improves his shot exponentially next season when he can live in the gym more and more but he needs to focus on the abilities he has that can fill the gaps of what Purdue lacks...and if he can do that, he’ll see his PT increase and the team’s ceiling go up as well.

Seems like a rational decision - decide to transfer when there are tons of minutes to be had next year. Makes complete sense.

Never mind throwing this out there on a night when the team takes apart the 2nd ranked team in the nation.

What did I miss? I am sorry if I am uninformed, but I don't understand. Is it playing time? With 4 senior starters on a team, freshman minutes are going to be hard to come by for almost anyone. Transferring usually doesn't work out too well for most players - the players who stick it out and battle through adversity usually rise to the top and are well rewarded for it. I am pretty old and if I could draw on a parallel of my professional career (not in sports); I would say unequivocally that being a little patient and re-evaluating situations has paid off for me time and time again.

Just when I didn't think this week for Purdue basketball could get any worse (except for the Arizona game) then this. If this is true and final, I am very sorry it didn't work out, there are a lot of Boilermaker fans who are fans of Nojel who are going to be extremely disappointed if Nojel is not part of the team in the long term. :(:(:(

TReed, please ask your son if he wants you to post on this board. You are representing him and it should be his decision. Free country, thank GOD, so you can write what you want. However, If he wants to leave, that is fine. We don't want that, but fine. Respectfully, You should not be spouting out on a message board about it either way. Boiler UP! Football Day!

That's really sad to hear. He is obviously well liked by those of us here. He has much to offer our Boilermakers but more importantly I think our Boilermakers have much to offer him still. One of the hardest things to accept about a team sport is that it is about "team". For a young freshman to be that unhappy about being at Purdue so early in his first season is sad. If Nojel does decide to leave I wish him only the best wherever he might land. Well, IU and MSU excepted of course-tic.

Treed1967. I'm sorry. I don't post much, but come to this board every day. I really like you being on here. You are always in good nature and I like getting the insider info. I respect your posts to the level that I thought it was a done deal that he was leaving. If that was the case, I thought it was not fair to announce it on here. I know you are a good person because you raised a great young man. Have a great weekend.

T,
I am sure you understand by now when I and others suggested you not come on these boards once the season started. Please keep an open mind and let this season play out. I myself almost wrote this team off as of yesterday. Its been a frustrating weekend for Purdue fans. All true Purdue fans want and need Nojel on the team.
