Tom reporting Walters likely to return…

Tom’s big prediction…CRW to add assistant coaches from successful programs whose resume suggests they should be the HC over himself. Tom, drugs are bad, don’t do drugs

This is like Elf where the 2 writers book pitch to Walter was to bring in Miles Finch to write the book.

Flat footed here.

Can’t we make an $8mil and big assistant pool offer to a guy knowing that we’ll have more $ to spend on players in 2026?

Seems like we are flushing a year and will be losing players from the program that could help in 2026 and beyond so that Mbob can retire on HIS terms and we can figure out just how much we want to give players…even though we should know this now!
I can’t disagree that if they wanted to go all out they could make a move. They should. Walters performance doesn’t warrant a return at all. I’m just looking for reasons why they might do this. I honestly agree with nat who has always told me that the commitment level overall is just not very high.

It took Daniels dropping F bombs in BOT meetings to get Hazell out.

At this point there’s no excuse to not spend the money. It’s your cash cow and that absolutely leaves town when the SEC and BIG join forces and potentially form a super football league with divisions or tiers. If Walters is still here you can throw us on that bottom rung!

I could understand why we didn’t spend when we didn’t have the money. Hard to support an AD that has the money then won’t spend it!

Thought it was joke that we were looking at Shep and B Brohm in another thread. Guess not. Thought Shep's wife didn't like West Lala?

B Brohm to Purdue. Interesting that's even an option. Easily see a scenario in which Walters sucks at the beginning of the season and whatever new OC or DC comes on board replaces him. In essence CRW is hiring his replacement.

Can we get both as OCs

I suspect they’re just floating names with Purdue ties, however tenuous. If we thought B Brohm was the guy he’d already be two seasons into his head coaching career. He’s never coming back, nor is Shep who was another we could have given a chance 2 years ago and we didn’t. Again neither is leaving their current position for CRWs staff

Alabama is probably looking to scapegoat someone so it wouldn’t be shocking to see Shephard let go. Brohmco is a model that should raise questions and probably should be broken up, so Brian leaving isn’t crazy imo. Shouldn’t he carve his own path?

I’m on record here saying Tom is not great at this and maybe shouldn’t be taken too seriously, just saying it’s not totally crazy to think these guys may be available.

Your missing my point. True, money will need to be spent, but do we really want CRW to be the one spending it?
For more and better players? yes. Your preference is no new players and a new coach who comes in with absolutely nothing?

I don't get it. You act like he's got mental retardation combined with Alzheimers. Yeah, he's not a good head coach right now, he's not a drooling idiot who can't possibly find ANY talent at all.

Wait we might get Brian brohm or shep as OC?

from what i see this year, Walters is not a good judge of talent. Or else he settled for whoever he could get from the Portal.

Listen to his press conference. He speaks in generalities and has literally no clue how to run a program. He conned Bobinski and that alone should get him fired. I found it very odd they have to check in daily to see what he’s up to. Because he’s bad at his job and Bobo is too incompetent to realize a mistake and is just doubling down. Why make Ross Ade improvements if the on field performance is going to be so pathetic? Now we are 3rd fiddle in the state of Indiana

Delusions.

There’s not a chance Brohm would leave his brother for the same job he already has.

If Shepard gets fired he’s probably a good candidate as he’ll need a soft spot to land but if he’s not let go there’s no way he walks from Bama to a one year gig unless he’s promised the HC job after.

I think it’s just simply whoever is floating these names doesn’t know any better or how football works. They are 2 OCs with Purdue ties. That’s it. Their likeliness to take a 1 year job is quite low.

If this is who Tom D thinks we can get…sad on him on his lack of knowledge.

If this is who our HC and AD think we can get they are either lying to themselves, delusional, or THEY don’t know how football works.

Either way it’s all pathetic!

I’ve said this all year. Either he’s not smart or he’s not football smart.

He has no personality and can’t discuss at an honest or accurate level what is happening. Of course the coach isn’t going to come out and say he thinks his team sucks but he also can’t really answer basic questions about what’s happening game to game and it’s likely because he just doesn’t know.

That would also explain why we don’t adjust in game. This coach knows one thing and just does that over and over and can’t figure out why that doesn’t work!

I only ever defended the Walters hire because I thought any AD who makes a hire as good as brohm post hazell deserves the benefit of the doubt. Shep was my first choice. How would you feel about his ascent to HC if he turned around the offense as OC?

Shep is going to be a HC at point (and I hope that he was offered the chance over CRW two years ago and decided he wasn’t ready), but he’s at Bama with a staff that has not thrown him under the bus despite some offensive struggles in a few games. I checked the Bama board and no one seems to be calling for his head. The staff writers are actually defending him and think that they need stability to allow the staff a year to rebuild the roster and implement their system.

Tom may have some insider information about CRW staying, but we should be checking the unemployment line for OCs and worse it likely is someone who’s been standing there a while or is a recent promotion to OC at a small school.

What coach worth his weight in salt ,would agree to hiring new assistant coaches with the oversight/permission of a AD??? Maybe one that has a hidden disability or inability to coach at the P4 level.
Thank you for answering your own question.... Purdue has enough talent to be competitive with its on par opponents which is a further indictment of CRW's coaching prowess at this time.
It's unfortunate that you can't see that no one deserves to be the leader of men in the game of football if they can't succeed at making winning decisions at the basic level of the sport...
This situation is what it is,blind or not....

Well yeah of course he settled for whomever he could get because we don't spend a lot of money on transfers.

We have one player in the top 50 (barely) for NIL.

So we are stuck settling for folks who didn't work out somewhere else in the hope that they will work out here. And the odds of that are usually pretty low because there's usually a reason they didn't work out at the prior place.

This is such a mishmash of points and quite frankly super emotional. Hidden disability?

He's a never before head coach, at a school with bottom of the conference talent, with a schedule that's too ten in difficulty two years in a row.

Why everyone is shocked that he can't win games, or recruit talent to a school near the bottom of power conferences for NIL is beyond me.

We were predicted bottom of conference before the season even started. Because everyone thought we had bottom of the conference talent. It's not because the collective universe decided after a single season that Walters had good talent but was "hiddenly disabled."

No disrespect, but Shep and B.Brohm haven't been head coaches and in no way would they tie their wagon to the hot mess that CRW is driven!!

Yes, I actually think we should fill in the tunnels so our football team cant take the field.
And if they keep playing this poorly, we should take CRW's whistle away from him and make the players play without kleets, that will teach them....
Oh ,by the way, the Hoosiers might be mad this weekend, look out Purdue.....TIC

I dont think we're asking them to be head coaches, at least not right away.

I can't fathom Shep hitching his wagon to this mess. He'd be awesome to have back though.

B Brohm could easily just go right back to Louisville. Be kind of surprising that he'd leave Jeff. We really could use a B Brohm type as a QB coach regardless.

I’m not shocked Purdue has struggled this year, given the circumstances you list, but the mini- renaissance late last season should have been an indication that CRW was building something— he himself said he had “everything he needed” to compete…

September 2024 rolls around , and we witness this absolute disaster of a team: poorly prepared, poorly coached, and consistently unwilling to compete. That is NOT a $$$ issue, it’s a leadership issue.

Should Purdue allocate a LOT more to the football program? Absolutely, but that in no way excuses the proven fact that CRW is a terrible coach.

His job this year was to demonstrate the capacity to teach technique, implement a scheme and a culture of competitiveness In order for kids to get better over time— I see no evidence of that.

I have a simple question: is ANYONE on this roster a better player today than they were a year ago at this time???

I sure as hell don’t see it.

To me, this was a big knock on Brohm. Guys on the fringe never seemingly took jumps but the studs were good and always good.

With this coach…we are lucky if guys stay the same and don’t regress. What a far fall in just a few years.

Sure.

I don’t think he’s getting canned this year and if not, there’s no way he walks away to come work for Walters.

Again…I think Tom or whomever came up with that list was just putting people he knew were OCs and had Purdue ties. I’d highly doubt we could snag those guys as an OC on a sinking ship.

Absolutely, it makes no sense to complete stadium reservations and then, not give CRW a vote of confidence if you are going to keep him..... Especially if money is not an issue and a loosing football coach is not an option.

In addition to a poor scheme and poor in game coaching, I have never witnessed so many players skill actually decay from one season to the next......

I mean obviously that wasn't true. Did you expect him to say, boy we don't have enough to compete right now? None of the experts believed him, that's why every publication had us last in the conference.

Ok he's a terrible coach. He's still here next season. We still need more talent.
Nothing changes about that, no one is "excusing" anything by pointing out we have more than one problem.

He's gone after next season. This perverse idea of making the team as bad as possible as some sort of punishment to Walters or the AD by not wanting to improve the talent is something I don't get.

So even if one thinks he's an idiot who should go do something else and never coach another football game at any level, why wouldn't you still want more talent and NIL for the NEXT coach to work with?

Why wouldn't you want to start working on those issues now?

And yes, recognizing that almost ANY coach would have had a huge hill to climb with our situation and quite frankly probably wouldn't have made a bowl game either season is valid. That says nothing about whether or not Walters has done a bad job. Or excuses the performance. It recognizes we have multiple, systemic problems with the program that aren't solved simply by "get a coach who doesn't suck."

With some more decommits on the way, including one “that’s going to hurt” according to Tom D.

It’s very simple: if we have $12 million in rev share for the football program to spend in the 2025-26 school year, let the new coach spend it in the Dec 2025 portal, instead of having a moron blow it on a bunch of guys who can’t play.

Any good players we have next season will be in that Dec 2025 portal anyway.

Lol so you want a new coach to come into a program with no talent at all, and then hope they can win enough games to entice the following season?

And guess what, you're going to have to spend big bucks several years in a row to get to a good place. So might as well start now.

And no, Walters is not a "moron." He's just not ready to be a head coach.

And yet both were hotly debated two years ago when we needed a head coach. Either would have been an enormous upgrade over CRW.

Sure.

So I’d rather let the next coach spend the 2025-26 budget on 2026 players.

If we have any talented freshman and sophomores on our current team that are worth keeping, I would be in favor of keeping them for a reasonable amount.

But as far as letting Walters go buy 1 year rentals out of the portal, nah.

If Walters stays, which is looking likely, then do we just say that next year is a lost year then?

We will have a mass exodus of any remaining talent left. No recruit in their right mind would want to join our program unless they grew up a Purdue fan. This is the same for transfers unless we loosen our purse strings around this, which we have not shown to do in the past, except for a few exceptions like Card (and that turned out well). Maybe we have a Bobby Boucher or two that we didn't know about on the sidelines?
