TKR en fuego

It's tough. He can get early one on D and he sets so many screens for Smith the law of averages is that one gets called as a moving screen. He has to be morrnconscious of that, especially early and try not to reach early on D and give up a layup if he he's beaten at the basket.

Now if we can just figure out how to keep him on the court and out of foul trouble.

Yeah - Painter talked about it again post-game - you have to think he and Brantley are reminding him. Painter was his usual blunt self - "they're legitimate fouls, and you have to be better than that..." [paraphrasing].

You can't totally avoid fouls - it's the cheap one or nickel/dimer really early that's been a problem.....then it forces to be tentative or he has to go out inevitably because too much action comes his way. Last night was a reach in the lane less than two minutes into the game.....could have been a no-call, but you don't want to put it in the official's hands there......

Regardless, he's been loaded for bear lately.....and also sparing myocardial cells with his recent FT prowess......haha.

TKR said after the game that he has to keep his emotions in check. He feels like he doesn't get the whistle on the offensive end and it causes him to be more aggressive at times defensively. He said he needs to be more steady mentally.

Very cerebral response that didn't surprise me at all given what I've heard about him.

Yes - no doubt he takes it to heart - these are good things, IMO as part of the process for learning and developing and winning habits with the right frame of mind. He is an impressive young man while taking everyone's best shot and then some.

Except for the one on Sandfort at center court, which might not even be characterized as one, there were no moving screens yesterday IIRC.

TKR up to 62% from the line on the season - last six games, starting with Oregon, he is 30-36, 83.3%....if he keeps that up, going to really help Purdue in this tough stretch starting Tuesday.

Guess who's missing from this list?

I love how Braden searches for things to keep that chip on his shoulder

He's more ticked off about it than TKR or Painter certainly......good fuel as you say.....great teammate, and it galvanizes the locker room with TKR appreciating it that his teammates have his back......even though he didn't really know or care about the slight.

I'd like to see him get his due because IMO he deserves it, and he has earned it. He bided his time and deferred (rightfully so) to Zach Edey for a couple of years - not easy and could have bolted but he didn't.....he wanted to be part of something (special).....and he is.

Also - last night - didn't pick up his first foul until about 2 minutes left first half.....impressive in a DJ Whistle City game.

They asked CMP about the snub and he went off for a good solid few minutes about it.

Typical blunt Painter - (which a few predicted would get asked something about this)

"He's the fifth or sixth most efficient player in college basketball right now. You can't make up the numbers that he has.........The thing I don't grab is ... how they can't acknowledge it when you win big. If you have big time numbers and your team stinks, I got it. Or your team wins all the time and your numbers are very modest.

(Smith and Kaufman-Renn) both have big time numbers. Obviously Braden is not in that sphere anymore, but (Kaufman-Renn) is. I just don't understand when you win at a very high level and you have those numbers and you're productive and your the fourth, fifth, sixth most efficient player in the country, whatever the damn stat is.......

to each their own
."

There were a couple of times he let USC players get to the rim without much resistance. I'm sure he was told he's so important on offense to not risk it on the defensive end but I wished at the time he'd at least made a bit more effort, particularly when he was sitting with 0 fouls.

last nights game early showed that Braden intended to be more of a passer than scorer as he always tries to fill the gap that is needed. It appeared to me that he was trying to get all the others scoring opportunities, but perhaps none as much as Myles.
