I missed the first half. Can someone tell me how this happened? Was it a play, pick and pop, shot clock winding down?

Love that he hit that, if he can hit a couple more in the next couple weekends teams will have to plan for it.

Anyone know why he didn’t really play in the second half? Because Illinois made a post and Painter wanted to stick with his best player?

As i said i didn’t watch the first half but from the game cast and box score it looked looks Trey was playing really well. Wish he had got more second half minutes. I’ll be curious to see what the plus minus for the game was.

From what I remember, IL just sort of gave him some space out to the right of the key, and he just knocked it down.

Painter goobered up the lineups in the 2nd half with 3 guards not named Smith and forgot we had TKR apparently. Almost lost the game.

He hit a couple 40 minutes before the game. He hasn’t shot any the last 17 or so games. It has not been a strength of his to date… neither are FTs . That said, I think he has taken a step forward since the first IU game. I think he and Brandon give the team a boost in play going forward. You need that in a long season …some energy and a couple new players on the scouting report with some different looks

When Furst is playing well (and he hasn't for awhile now) he's the 4 we really need with Edey imo. Offensively and defensively.

When Gillis isn't hitting 3s I just don't know what he brings to the table that TKR and Furst don't already.

With Furst and Gillis in slumps, could TKR be who we should be looking at to be playing aside Edey more often than not? TKR seems like he's one of our 5 best players right now.

Gillis teamed up really well with Trevion. They seemed to have a connection where they knew where each other was without looking. That chemistry isn't there with Edey.

Painter alluded in the presser that maybe he should have given Trey more minutes. I think right or wrong it was a matter of letting Zach get his because he missed so many minutes in the 1st half.

Just checked the box score and my intuition was correct.

TKR had a +/- of 11, and Edey had a -10.

This isn’t to knock Edey, he is the best player on the team and most likely the country. But he obviously had a bad game (no thanks to being hacked and tripled mind you), and TKR had a good game.

TKR should have played a lot more in the second half.

That plus was heavily influenced by that late first half run where Purdue got their hands on balls and knocked down 3s. I think we see more Trey down the road...some subbing for Zach and other times as a 4 man when the other team has a 4 man that is not a threat outside to drive the ball and Purdue wants to own the lane

Yeah, but what is cause and what is effect? It seems like the run could have been fueled by TKR if not how he was playing, how Illinois was defending him vs how they defended Edey.

I hope Trey gets more minutes in the BTT. We need to rest Zach some and its a good time to try out TKR with more minutes.
I agree. When Zach is getting double teamed and the foul calls aren't coming, we gotta go smaller. It worked extremely well in the first half.

And Zach Edey has worked out extremely well througout the course of the season. You don't bench the NPOY more because Trey played decent minutes. Sit the NPOY more, wow...

Dumb if that's what you took from my comments. So Edey is infallible and we should keep feeding him the ball while he forces tough shots on double teams because he's the NPOY? Makes sense...

BTW, did you watch any of the first half where our lead got extended out to 24 while we played small ball with Trey? Sometimes matchups matter...
