Don't know anything about him, but I like the move, if for no other reason than we finally have a dedicated QB coach, which I have said for years should be mandatory for a school
that claims to be the cradle of QBs.

I think the most telling points are made by the comments to that article. Vast majority were complementary. Some also wondered why he could do no better than QB coach for a deadman walking HC. Pure speculation on my part, but as a record-setting QB himself, I'm hoping Haz has promised him a lot of leeway to get us back on track toward the cradle again. He will definitely have more raw QB talent here than the walk-on at Syracuse this past season.

Any word on if Appleby has changed his mind based on the coaching hire?

I will give the man a season to prove would he can do.I do think Purdue has two young Qbs with potential,so we will see what happens.

I really like this hire. He seemed to do a good job as OC at the Cuse. They put up 24 points against LSU and 27 against Clemson. Their defense was awful, which led to the staff being fired.

I'm wondering why we didn't consider him for OC instead of Malone.

You might want to look at the stats for Syracuse. Ranked lower in passing yards and total yards per game.

Considering they were down to like their 5th string QB, I wouldn't expect much from their passing attack. He did a good job in developing their 1st string the year he was healthy but the sample size is small. I think its a good hire. QB is by far and away the most important position in football and it seems asinine to NOT have a QB coach in today's game.
Guy also had a good career at Cent Mich and played in the XFL so he has playing credibility and probably knows all aspects of playing the position against good competition.
Good hire.

I couldn't agree more. Finally a coach who can focus on a position that needs to develop and if he offers any help in recruiting and play calling or game planning assistance that is a bonus. Didn't like the idea of OC/QB coach like with Shoop.

Not sure I would classify XFL as credentials for playing. I've seen some semi-pro teams that would wipe the floor with most of those XFL rosters. For instance, the last Lafayette Lions team (played on that team) had a former Purdue QB, former NFL linemen, and NFL CB, and two NFL safeties. The XFL was a supreme joke and largely considered one of the worst business investments of all time by Vince McMahon.

considering the state of our program and having a lame duck coach, I'm surprised we got someone of this caliber. He's young , energetic, and knowledgable of the QB position. He was the recruiting coordinator at Cuse and his '14 class ( which inc. Denzel Ward) had 1- 4 star, 15 - 3 star, and 8- 2 star, which isn't bad at a school w/ comparable success as our program.
