The Sleepers Media guys suggested a head coach and I actually love it.

They cover football now too? I suppose it can't be worse than whatever it is they're doing for basketball.

Pat Fitzgerald from Northwestern. He's currently unemployed, knows how to coach at a school with high academics, and is a solid coach.
No
Would need to build a staff, way behind on recruits, and cant bring in guys he knows can play in the b10 off his roster. Forget pat, chip kelley, mullen, etc. Need a current hc with staff and players to transfer.

We have 2 different threads on this already.

He will always have a stain on him whether he actually had anything to do with the scandal or not. I don't think we want to be the first school to give him a job again.

That's one potential upside with Ryan Silverfield. Memphis probably has at least a handful of guys who can contribute in the B1G.

Have no idea if he would take the gig, but he would be among my first calls.

And like ChiBoiler, I think the abuse scandal is a bridge too far. How many parents are going to send their 18-year old to play football with a guy with that kind of history?

Sleepers media say some of the dumbest things because it will get clicks. If Purdue hired Fitz I would immediately stop JPC and tickets. What a luke warm hire. Wouldn’t move me back into the stadium at all

Not good... 3 of his last 4 seasons at NW were terrible, I doubt he is let go of if he even had average seasons.

3 and 9

7 and 2 covid

Agree. Chuck Martin would most likely as well from miami. Theres plenty of guys in the mac that would do well in the b10.

I'll preface this w/ I like listening to them guys except for the newer guy. This episode was disappointing to me as they just said names and laughed mostly, although I don't blame them laughing at the thought of Lester. As far as the other names, Fitz, Kelley, Lester, and R Rod absolutely NO and why mention Fleck ( I like the job he's done at Minn) but why would he consider Purdue?

the only guy from the MAC that slightly intrigues me is Albin as he has shown an upward trajectory at Ohio, but we got to go bigger

We don’t have to. There might be things these smaller school guys have that a more established coach doesn’t that ultimately leads them to be more successful.

We could throw all the money in the world at a Dan Mullen to come here but there are still red flags and things he just doesn’t do well that will be even tougher to overcome here at Purdue.

Have to be realistic that the top 20 established coaches aren’t going to come here either- no matter what we spend. We could match their salary, give assistants more $ but there would still be 97 other disadvantages they would have to overcome here vs an established SEC or major conferene school.

Sometimes you have to get the up and comer. We likely will have to go that route. There’s no shame in it, you e just got to move on quickly when it doesn’t work out.

Still want Silverfield, nice record, done w/ mostly 2 and 3 star guys, has some pro and OL coaching experience , upward trajectory in his record, and play physical brand of football

Give me a no name coach who is knowledgeable, has a system and attracts players because he is a leader of men, that's the guy that I want....
I had a front row seat when BSU hired Rick Majerus as their basketball coach to take over a program that won only 7 games the year before.
He wasn't a big name but he checked all of the abilities that I mentioned above.
The rest is history....... I have a interesting recruiting story about Majerus that I could share if anyone has any interest....

Albin is a name I didn't expect to see. But, he's now been floated on a few lists.

He doesn't have a lot of D1 head coaching experience, but he was an integral part of the Ohio rebuild under Solich. He seems pretty rooted in Athens; been there since 2005. That program looks positioned to keep cranking out 8-10 win seasons.

On the other hand, he's also 59. So, now might be the time to take his shot at a high-major gig.

That Ohio roster probably has guys who can contribute in the B1G. Kurtis Rourke has done well at Indiana.
