There was no DEI back then and so no was the answer. When you have and promote DEI, then anything that doesn't work out can point to DEI since the best person may not be sought. It is the nature of the beast when you implement DEI. When you promote something other than merit to be important, then by all means when things go sideways that which took the place of merit is open for blame
I remember MLK Jr. preaching what Booker T Washington and George Washington Carver taught: that blacks have to study hard, work hard, and keep their noses clean. And all they wanted was an equal opportunity to compete. Two different groups opposed MLK, and they were the Black Muslims and the Black Panthers. This turned young blacks against MLK as he was thought to be the Justice Thomas of his time. MLK even started to backtrack from his Gandhi stance. I can't remember the catchphrase, but I believe it was that we need to overthrow the government in any way we can.
I did my best to fight Jim Crow over fifty years ago, and today, blacks want their own holidays, memorials, colleges, contests, etc, separate but equal. That is Jim Crow! I can't believe that blacks think the only way they can make it is through DEI. This screams to me that blacks don't think they can make it on their own. Why is that? The Japanese were thought by Americans to be the dumbest people in the world, yet they overcame this obstacle in less than 35 years. They took this insult, and it motivated them to study and work harder. I wish others had that advantage.
The funny thing is that foreign countries still expect that they can place high tariffs on us, but it is racist for us to raise our tariffs. The media takes the issue to the American people. And the people are arguing for the other countries over the US. Not only that, but we need to take in their lawbreakers and people who are sick, but we still need to give them foreign aid and be their military force.
Am I missing something? BNI, please wake up every morning and say, Black is Beautiful! Then spend one hour praying for President Trump, and stop the hate. Please be open to the fact that Trump is trying to stop wars and negotiate better trade deals for America.

looking at the last four years especially and being silent and then denouncing everything Trump is trying to accomplish is quite a study on humanity and the effectiveness of the media still having some pray at their alter for direction
Your assessment is way off. First of all the Nation of Islam and the Black Panthers, who Justice Clarence Thomas was a member of by the way, wasn’t so much against MLK. It was more of them being impatient that change wasn’t happening fast enough for them. Also they were black nationalists. Their mantra was more like today’s conservatives. Don’t rely on the government for assistance. Pull up by your own boot straps and so forth. They were separatists as oppose to segregationists. Then there were folks like Thurgood Marshall who wanted and did fight Jim Crow through the court system.
Blacks don’t think that the only way to make is through DEI. Since white women have been the greatest benefactors of affirmative action, do they feel that is the only way to make it?
Why the hell should black people pray for a bigoted President that is prostate to Putin the murderous dictator and whose nonsensical anti-free market trade restrictions are harming the economy?

Exactly! Why is there DEI for white women? I had women come to me all the time, saying they wanted to do a project for a government business that was only available to minority-owned businesses, but they needed me to do the work. Today, I help small businesses, and I belong to a Chamber of Commerce. They have a "Ladies in Business" group, and that's Jim Crow!
My sister was highly successful. She was one of two women working as an AE for a national magazine fifty years ago. She was so successful that I would estimate that in five years, half the AEs were women. And in ten years, 85% were women. Those sales managers who wanted to remain sexist were fired, not because they had to hire women, but because if they didn't, their sales suffered. My sister is very modest, but I am so proud of her.
A black woman TV AE told me that her mother was big in the Black Panthers, and it was all about distributing drugs. Who knows? Maybe this is why Justice Thomas dropped out. I think BP started with the best of intentions, but people took it over for their own intentions. I believe in Dr. King, and while his method may have been slow, it would have prevailed in 30-35 years. An interesting read would be a conspiracy theory that those in power did not want King; they wanted division among the races to better control the people, and that is why he was assassinated. After his death, we went off course with entitlements which suggested that blacks are not smart enough to do it by themself. After reading the Ellsberg Papers, I stopped voting. I loved Obama's message of Hope and Change and voted for him. IMO, Obama would have brought the country together by saying that he studied hard, worked hard, and kept his nose clean; and if he could become President of the United States, then everybody has that opportunity. Instead, he promoted victimhood. He became the divider-in-chief. A stronger statement is Justice Thomas's rise to the Supreme Court from growing up in poverty in the segregated South.
Thank you for rewiring my memory, as I guess my friends were all segregationists, and that's why I was fiercely loyal to them. They wanted a melting pot, and they wanted the enormous satisfaction of doing it themselves. I don't like separatists because they, like most Democrats, want Jim Crow. I think Democrats want DEI because black Democrats feel entitled, and white Democrats believe black people are not smart enough to make it on their own. I agree with Donald Trump that they can.

Free trade can absolutely “go one way.” It is trade that happens without government intervention, you commie.
For instance, if you live in Indiana you may have free trade and commerce with the Kroger without Kroger ever buying anything from you.
But the government doesn’t intervene much — just sales tax of about 5%. So if we have a zero tariff agreement with Australia and then Trump hits them with a tariff anyway? That’s flat out anti-free trade.
Could it be that white men do not think other white men are smart enough and get jobs on their own merit. Perhaps that’s has always been the reason why white men have always hire other white men regardless of merit.

If Chump really believe that blacks are smart enough he would have selected more blacks in his cabinet and other high administration roles. Instead of the jive turkeys that he did select. Tim Scott, Byron Donalds and others were tap dancin’ in front of Chump all year and did not get selected for one role in the administration. This is one of the most unqualified administrations ever.
