The MSU fan sitting first row behind the ESPN announcers - is that the trustee or whoever that always gives visiting fans his seats?

There was also an MSU fan in the 3rd row of these seats.

By the way, other schools have policies for courtside seats that you can't have visiting team gear on. Why you never see them sitting in the front row...but nope, not Purdue.

Also - the one MSU I'm guessing parent who was standing the entire game, arms outstretched waving pom poms - I don't know how the person sitting behind her didn't grab those and throw them away.

Purdue needs that rule as you suggest for those seats. Won't happen though until the Trustees do something about it. As to the parent, she has the right to,stand just as those who are being blocked have the right to ahem, suggest she take a seat.

She was standing literally 3/4 of the game with her arms outstretched. I don't think if I stood up in my section when no one else was - with my arms outstretched waving pom poms around - I wouldn't be told to sit down by an usher.

But yes, how hard is it to tell your guest to dress neutral? And if it is that trustee, how many visiting team fans does he know? Geesh.

Gold seats should not be sell-able or even use by anyone other than the name or holder and select few family members names. Period... bad taste to have opposing fans in those.

Don't know how true it was, but I heard many years ago Keady had four IU fans sitting somewhere behind the Purdue bench very vocal during the game. The story goes that Keady pulled someone aside and told them to find out whose seats they were and to see to it they were not renewed the next year.

I occasionally bring opposing fans to games, but they know they have to wear black and need to hold their emotions in check. I have never had a problem. It is just respect.

She wore #34 and so I'm guessing she was Gavin's mother. I would have told her I can't see...politely at least the first time. Next course would have been to get an usher...a grumpy one

Based on the number of her jersey and her deflated nature after Gavin fouled out, my guess is it was Schilling's mom.

you know how hard most of those parents worked to get their kids into their current situations. All parents should have the right to be more emotionally invested into a game than the average fan. They should not hear about it either. If it weren't for them there wouldn't be a game to watch.

I don't disagree with your perspective, but any/all fans at a live basketball game should be curteous of those around them.
  • Enthusiasm = welcome!
  • Your kid's team colors = welcome!
  • Pom-Poms and standing = very rude behavior, because it greatly infringes on those people around the fan.

This isn't the first time it's happened - I remember IU fans sitting there too.

I sat across the floor from her and she stood and waived her arms for almost the entire game. I've seen a few other MSU games on TV this year and she does the same at every game. She's obnoxious and in desperate need of attention. I've been watching sporting events for over 4 decades and have never seen a parent do this. I was embarrassed for her son. I can't imagine my mother acting this way while I was playing.

BS. If it wasn't their kid it would be someone else's.

The B1g Network does game documentaries, saw one with the MSU players coming out and meeting their friends and family after a game. Was nice to see the human side we take for granted, overall seemed like a nice bunch of folks.

In this case, a competitive sporting event with thousands of screaming fans and one of the player's moms gets vocal behind the bench? Maybe if it was the opera I'd tell her to sit down and stfu, but would probably be asleep.

Do you think they are going to portray themselves as anything else on camera? Do you think BTN is interested as portraying them as anything but that?

I don't know how they are but I wouldn't take a few minute clip on BTN and make any assumptions based on it.

I was in the very last row on the opposite side of the arena, about as far away from her as physically possible, and she was making such a spectacle of herself that even I was annoyed. No adult should behave the way she was. I would be embarrassed if I was the other MSU fans sitting around her, and I sure as hell would be embarrassed if that was my mom acting that way during a game.

You clearly didn't see her. It's really not a big deal, I was pointing it out more so as a joke than anything - but I would have been very annoyed if I was sitting behind her. It wasn't just "being vocal". If someone was standing up in front of you with their arms outstretched waving around for most of the game, you'd be annoyed no matter who it is.

Can anyone identify the trustee that is giving his seats away? I would like to put a stop to that practice, and would like a name. IIRC trustees are elected officials, or at least here in Michigan they are. We can work as a group to change this situation.

After the IU game last year when IU fans were there - someone said who it was on here. I think it's definitely worth badgering Purdue about. It'd be one thing if the person wasn't representing Purdue - but how hard is it to ask them to have their guests not deck out in opposing team gear.

You clearly weren't at the game.

I think they are appointed by the Governor here for specific terms.

Obviously there are one or more trustees that are not Purdue fans. No wonder Cordova was able to cripple all our major sports with budget consraints with the trustees' assistance.

If there's plush seats empty at game time, there should be an 'instant upgrade' promotion for students or others in the upper arena to fill them

I'm glad someone else brought this up. We have gone to 6 games this year and every time we see people with opposing gear on in the Premium Seats. Drives me crazy. Get the ticket holders names and give them one warning. Second time they lose rights to season tickets.

There are thousands of true PU fans that would love to have access to those seats on a game by game basis. There is no reason for opposing fans to have access to them.

I typically agree with many of your posts, but disagree here. People pay good money and many times spend a few hours getting to and from a ball game and nobody is entitled to step on another's enjoyment. I expect that parents are more emotionally invested, but being emotionally invested does not displace a concern for others or that being more emotionally invested grants special rights. I fully understand yelling more often than others if that is what they want to do. I fully understand every so often standing up and yelling at the refs or his or her son at times. However, standing up and swinging pom poms over the course of the game is complete disregard for others that want to enjoy the same game. I might expect that out of a wild animal with no cognizant control, but not from one that resembles a human.

I am not going to name names but, we had a popular players Mom that was well heard during games a few years back. I got a kick out it! Be careful of what you want on fans.

I don't mind the yelling. standing up with pom poms in the air every 10 seconds is a bit much. She wouldn't appreciate it if all the Purdue fans had pom poms and stood up every 10 seconds in front of her. There's always one though...

did notice a nice redhead w/ a green msu shirt right behind their bench.

She sat behind all the other MSU parents/family. I wonder why?

Put her up front & see how much the other parents enjoy her "enthusiasm".

Yes, that was Bruce White of White Lodging in Merrillville, IN, who incidentally resigned from the BoT 53 weeks ago (one week after we hosted IU); could it have been related to heat that he received from giving up his tickets for a charity auction? I HOPE SO!!

Those may or may not still be his season tickets, (I don't give a damn anymore!) HOWEVER, am so damn sick and tired of these arrogant, unaccountable IDIOTS running roughshod over our University, our athletes and our alumni, and it is well past time that we put an end to it! I refuse to buy anything from these imbeciles and I sure as HELL will NOT donate one red cent to these undeserving dip wads who have NO regard for Purdue University's bottom line!

And CURSE this DAMN Bird of Trustees too:

OK...starting a list for the new AD to address (after football, of course):
1. No visiting team gear visible behind broadcasters in Mackey.
2. Anything else KHs?

I have been saying the same thing for a couple years only give them 5 minutes or something. Also why can't our fans wear black or at least gold. I see so many blues and whatever, it is sick
