Something tells me that the way that played out was either wrong, or it should be adjusted in the future so it doesn't result in an 8-point play. Right? I mean it happened to Purdue so we're upset about it, but firstly, I'm thinking there should have only been 1 free throw since the shot was made. No?

I don't think I've ever seen that happen. First time for everything I guess.

Flagrant 1 rule is two free throws and possession in NCAA. Have to enforce that separately and distinctly.

I think had it been a common foul on TKR, just possession to Rutgers. Now, in the NBA, they used to award the single FT on the common foul away from the shooter on a made basket - don't know if that's still the case. Bottom line, TKR gets frustrated understandably - but his play alone was five points. I think all this stuff will benefit him greatly down the road, but at times, it appears he's needing to avoid hidden land mines.

Painter talked about the play in the post-game remarks - when asked if he'd have ever seen an eight-point play before. Nope. He also agreed it was a flagrant and also was obviously feeling some effects from Boilerepherine because he immediately said to the effect of - "I knew they were going to make a three after that....you could just see it coming....."

Welcome to the game thread, Paint. Haha.

I believe the way it works in college is, if they're in the bonus, you take the free throws 1-1 or 2. If they're not, they just keep the ball. It's almost like the shot is a completely separate thing, and I'm not sure if I agree. Personally, if the foul occurs during a made basket, I think it should be considered an and-1. Flagrant is another story, but that's where I see that they could give them 1 shot and the ball in that case.

I think we all knew they were going to hit a 3. Great thing was we came back with back-to-back 3s to almost erase it.

Actually, we came back with a 3 and a 4 point play.

Yeah - Gicarri Harris got half of it back right away. I hear you, Chi-Boiler, the NBA rule probably is better.....I would rather do something like "continuing action" as well.

How many times have we seen fouls called on Purdue opponents underneath or on the wing infinitesimally before a Boiler nails a three-pt FG? Wipe it off the board, then either said player who was fouled misses a front end, or Purdue gets possession and fails to score or worse turns it over - too numerous to list. That basket would count, and award one FT - that would halt some of that stuff perhaps.

Remeber the insanity (not that long ago for us dinosaurs) when you could have an offensive foul/charge, but if it wasn't a player control foul (the ball had been released), score the goal! Then sometimes, if the other team was in the bonus - and missed the front end, that team gets another possession.....at least now, it's no goal and non-shooting foul......only it seems like they are calling a heavy percentage of "blocks" this conference season, outside of the restricted area, naturally.

I'll throw one more out there to consider - have another type of cylinder rule, where if a player is so far into the restricted area - it can't be an over-the-back call....if you are basically under the basket or too far in the paint, that's on you.....flagrants obviously still apply as applicable or if you've been illegally shoved into that - different scenario.
