1. So you decided today that Colvin & Heide aren't worth a dang and won't keep Morton in his rightful seat?

2. You decided that strength training will not help the guards get better?

3. You decided today that even when Morton plays that Colvin can't provide needed minutes at the 2?

4. You decided today that Edey is not coming back?

5. You decided today that experience won't help the guards?

6. You decided today that the team won't come back with a major chip on their shoulder with one FF goal in mind?

7. You decided today that the new backup Jones can't break a press and defend at a high level when needed?

Wow all that in a day with the signing of a backup. Well done. I am impressed. Just think what you can do tomorrow!!

I watched Jones play 2-3 times last year, he had the ball in his hands a lot distributing as well as scoring, your comments are misguided, this guy is a good player that will help the team, in my opinion, much more than Jenkins. Purdue got better yesterday, that’s a good thing!

Great point, two new young athletic players at the 2 positions we need them , 2/3, aren’t going to make a big difference?

Jones will fit in and do well

Sign another shooter, ready to roll

The key to success. Identify the need and fill the need! Ask, what is our need. Did this transfer fill that need? Last year we identified a need for wanting an experienced pg. Painter filled that need by signing Jenkins - a known shooter. Did he fill the stated need? Michigan lost a starter to the NBA draft. They signed a starter from UNC as his replacement. I highly doubt they will replace Dickinson with somebody providing depth off their bench. What is Purdue’s real need? Does this signing fill it? Go back and read my first three sentences!

I hate to taint your faith in the internet, but the average troll isn’t putting this much thought into their posts.

It will be interesting to watch how Love does at Meat-chicken. One of the frustrations Dickinson alluded to was losing games at the end because the UM guards played NBA bull crap. Love might bring a bunch more of that nonsense. UM might not be all that good because of that UNC add. Not all glittery transfers are gold.

Lance is a decent pickup, but I would have hoped we could sign a more elite guard considering we spent 1/3 the year at #1, and might have the returning POY.

We had a need as shown last year when pressed, we had problems. Hopefully, this kid helps with that.

Additionally, at times our guards couldn't stop certain players. We needed a stopper. Hopefully, a 2 time defensive player of the year adds value there.

We also have a need for an additional scorer when either the 1 or 2 is off. Maybe Colvin helps there? Maybe pushing our luck to think our frosh are always going to be good as Smith & Loyer when history says the opposite over CMPs tenure. Not sure the SIU kids helps here unless he finds his shot. Wouldn't count on that.
Thus a very good combo guard from the transfer portal or an elite shooter would help insure there. So there still is that need out there imo.

our problems with the press are insisting on trying to dribble through and not passing and attacking. There isn't a guard in the world that is going to consistently beat an athletic press with the dribble. We will always be pressed until we make teams pay for it.

Pretty sure ol’ Charlie Brown is just trolling us. His only posts are inflammatory.
I mean, he is kind of a blockhead.
It's possible that I overreacted.

I'll admit Lance Jones is a solid pickup that gives depth at the 2 (SG) position and fills some needs.
His shooting percentages are likely to go up, good defensively and he's good at attacking the basket which is something that the team lacks.

However I was hoping for a transfer starter that could be a game changer and help lead Purdue to the final four or national championship. Someone like Jameer Nelson or Max Abmas. Unfortunately that doesn't seem likely to happen.

If the 2024 season is already lost, why are you still on this board?

"The press" you reference can't be a man press, because "passing" to a player already covered may cause problems and so dribbling with the player that has an advantage is the best way against man press..unless one of the defenders forgot he is suppose to defend a player. Now a zone press does require more than one player and the 2-2-1 specifically caused some problems this season. Not all zone presses in play are hard pressure where you should attack. Sometimes those are hopeful the team will force the action while the D is giving ground to protect the basekt and hope for a careless pass or out of control dribble. Sometimes those then up the pressure once they see the tendency of a team to break the zone. Bottom line...attack everytime the numbers favor you for success, but have the mental discipline to understand the difference.

Not sure what the Michigan comments were supposed to illustrate. Purdue didn't fill their need and wildly exceeded expectations. Michigan filled their need and sucked -- didn't even make the NCAA tournament.

Good well thought out post. Having watched Lance play my opinion is you’ll like him. He’s a better fit and better player than Jenkins, he’ll be a nice 15-20 minute a game option. Guessing a 6-8 point a night player if he gets minutes.

Have not seen him play. His shooting percentage overall at 41% for his career, is better than Newman, Morton and Loyer all at about 36%. That could go up if Zach stays and he sees more wide open shots. His assist to turnover ratio is slightly under water, much like Newman. Morton, Smith, Loyer all better at about 2 to 1. If Edey stays, feeding the post is an art in itself to be learned. We will see if his ball handling and/ or decision making improves.

Purdue needs 5 guys on the court that can defend multiple

positions with the right size and quickness and do multiple

things on offense, too. This gets Purdue to the 2024 Final Four.

No more 1-dimensional players on either side of the ball.

God help the Boilers!

They would have to replace every player, including Edey to accomplish that.

Who are the 5 available players you have in mind?
Good question. This is just my opinion.

Kaufman-Renn and Furst are 2 for the frontcourt

Myles Colvin, Camden Heide, the transfer from SIU look

capable. Brian Waddell has some versatility to him.

Not sure about Berg on defense.

Would be nice to get another guy from the portal.

One-dimensional players really need to come off the bench

or not be recruited at all.

TKR can't guard 5s, let alone anyone else. Try again.

Furst mostly catches interior passes from Edey for layups/dunks or catches passes to shoot 30% from three. TKR, ah,so far no, but maybe, has to lose weight and get quicker. Freshman will likely struggle on D, and Waddell has not played meaningful college minutes, so who knows. So really a bunch of maybes. All about opinions, but only one counts...Painter.

Ok, I will try again. I bet Kaufman-Renn could better contest

that wide open 3 FDU hit at the top of the key to seal

Purdue's fate better than Edey did.

Edey was nowhere to be found on that play, not fast enough.

Hope that coach tries something new next March with lineups

unless Purdue wants a repeat of 2023 again.

I don't- he generally was out of position defensively.

Except for one game, I would take a repeat of 2023 in a heart beat!!

The line up with two-three freshmen mowed through some great competition. They just ran out of gas 2/3rds of the way through this past season. Next year I think those freshmen will be in much better shape.
