New TE coach, was with the Saints before and coached Jimmy Graham and was with Michigan previous to that.

He knows what it takes to be a TE at the NFL level, and coached one of the best in the NFL in Graham. I like the hire and that could be a great pitch to TE recruits.

What do you guys think?

Hopefully, this will lead to us landing some high profile TE recruits in our next recruiting class.

As I said on KHC, sure as hell seems like it, good job by the entire AD
here, as I presume this took some cash and was a collaborative effort by
the coaches to bring him on board.

I think it's outstanding. Can't he be offensive coordinator instead?

I'm somewhat shocked, as it seems like a quality hire.

As far as some of his hires, DH swung and missed with Shoop. Hopefully he will realize that he needs to rectify things with the OC.

A+ hire. The TE position can be a difference maker for this team. Our QBs will be the beneficiaries.

He wasnt their OC until 2001. He was their OL coach in 1997

Did he handle play calling?

Starting in 2001. To his credit he was nominated for the Broyles award at one point.

Maybe Brees had something to do with Malone landing this job and he would be in line for the H/C should Hazell get canned.

He was a fired NFL assistant...

I am not sure how much a role Drew played. TE coach is not the most important person on a staff. Coordinators, QB Coach, OL Coach, I would say Secondary is important.

He has a nice resume, but why didn't another nfl team sweep in?

Re: He was a fired NFL assistant...

Maybe Purdue swept in before the other NFL offers could come? Maybe this year there weren't a lot of moving coaches for TE's? Either way, I am glad to see another highly regarded coach come in and help the Boilers regain some respectability. Have to love that he arrived in West Lafayette Sunday night and was one of the first guys in the building for the 6am workout! Any coincidence that the first big story about recruiting was about a highly regarded TE prospect?

Actually, I think it might be a coincidence specifically related to this hiring.

I dont follow it closely, but feel like they have been focusing on TE a lot and just whiffing. Specifically I recall that kid that went to Kentucky during Haz's first year.
