Technical?

Someone that was at the game tweeted that it was simply because of Collins being out of the coach's box. If that was the case, that was a weak call against him because the replay on the broadcast made it appear as though he was still within the coaching box area (maybe had a toe over the line but that's it). Anyway, I guess we'll take it because it stopped what little momentum NW was gaining when they cut Purdue's lead to 15.

I guess Cal and Izzo would get tossed then.

I was at the game. Collins had been begging for the tech quite a while before he actually got it. The ref had twice pointed at him and his asst pulled him back into the huddle prior to the action resuming and him getting the T.

He immediately started applauding and laughing, he knew he had it coming and just wanted to get his 2 cents worth in. They were not coming back to win that game and he knew it. He picked his time to get the T, said his piece and moved on.

What was that about? Did he step out of the box or say something or what?

When you go back and look at it, Collins appeared to be sending some jabs at the refs about some of his calls. From my perspective it appears the ref told Collins to stay in his coaching box and be quiet. I think Collins may have said something along the lines of 'see, I'm in my damn box' while being very sarcastic about it as he sort of ran right to the coaches box line and pointed it out. Collins was almost laughing after being 'T'd' up so I am kind of guessing it was something along those lines.

I don't know....NU had just run off an 8-0 run in less than a minute of play and had the momentum at that point with McIntosh starting to heat up. I'm not sure they could have won BUT they could have made it interesting with a few more points in the run to get within 10. Instead, NU went back down 16 and then 19 after Boogie hit a three.

It was a purposeful tech, his reaction said it all. No doubt PU had a lull there but I don't believe (and I don't think Collins did either) that they were going to come back and win that game. If he truly thought they had a shot he either wouldn't have gotten it, or certainly would have had a different reaction. He'd had enough and decided to get his shots in. That's my take from watching him during the previous 2 time outs and then when he actually got the tech.

Purdue was up 14 at that point and had the ball I believe...they weren't coming back.

Norman Dale would have been proud...

Collins was riding the officials the entire game despite them letting Haas and Biggie to be hacked all night long. Regardless he had to say something which was stupid since NW was mounting a mini comeback.
