Tayson Parker - class of 2020

Maybe he gets offered and comes to Purdue. A lot of kids have dreams of playing for a school growing up but once they start getting heavily recruited their opinions can be swayed. I'm not saying he will change his mind just that if Painter plans on offering we shouldn't be taking anything for granted.

Knew the rule about a sport not offered, but haven't kept up on the others...thanks...makes sense...other than homeschooling probably gets nothing???
Correct. And always remember that the IHSAA considers a first practice at a HS as defining the school that player must attend. If he goes to a different MS, but then goes to a HS, the IHSAA has no authority over MSs, so he's fine. But once he attends one practice (not one class day) at a HS, that is his HS.

Obviously anything can happen, but if you've read what his dad has posted, including the tour they got the last time they visited, it's pretty clear that Purdue is way way way ahead of the field. It's about as good a position as any school could be in for a recruit.

Not a Premie member but I'll take your word for it.

My son was recruited D1 (MAC quality) and I assure you, if a school is interested, they don't have to offer to make it clear they want you and will happily take you. My son knew who wanted him way before the offers came, and everyone that wanted him made an offer. Of course, if an injury had occurred or he had been arrested, or simply had a really bad sophomore year, then everyone understood that things would change. He wasn't a top 50.

I'd wait till his junior season just to keep him improving, but yeah, he's worth a scholarship. Athletic, talented, wants a degree, and probably way more coachable than those AAU kids with inflated egos.
The father actually is a KHC'er. He had a thread a few months ago on the premium board where he posted a dunk video and just gave a bit of background. Would love to have the kid on board. If he is D1 talent, bring him on.

the high school rule has been around for a long time...that one I know...but attending other schools has made some changes the last few years...course a few years could be 10? :)

Apparently society hasn't created enough incentive to learn or made it too easy to survive without it?

Unfortunately there are parents and those in the periphery of young athletes who will hype anyone up to believe they are greater than they truly are...you can see that with the amount of transfers increasing over the last few years in college.

I think by now Painter has screwed up enough recruiting, he has learned about every lesson he can on when to offer guys, and that each guy is different. I think he is staying away from offering frosh for the most part after some difficulties there in the past.

CMP offered Carson Edwards as a Frosh.....Lots of discussion when it happened but seems to have worked out-wink!

If you only have 1-2 Scholarships to offer I am sure you hold your offers tighter than when you have 4 or so to offer.

I think only 1 scholarship (Carson's) in 20 for example....

Carsen wasn't offered til the summer of his senior year. You may be thinking Vincent.

Ouch...my bad!! I could have sworn Carson was offered years before the rest of the basketball world knew who he was.....thanks for the correction.

Well, one thing that has happened over the years was the push of the "child-centered" schools which used to be confined to elementary, now pushed into higher grades. That whole pedagogical approach caters to what you suggest. When you talked about clubs like in Europe if athletics were taken out of schools...I know that. I was really trying to get at how the academics might change since there is a lot of money, support sent to athletics rather than academics. Check out the government data on k-12 spending since the 80's and any academic achievement of quantitative nature and you will see no relationship between money a (and how it is spent) and learning.

The government schools have a captive audience (students) that in many cases see no need to learn remotely close to what they need (outside of mental retardation how can someone NOT learn sophomore level or being proficient in some level?). No question society doesn't place the importance it should and no question the crutches in society for not learning enable the actions as well. None of this is to suggest that K-12 schools should make it a priority to prepare for a job. What purpose does that do when the whole country is dependent on an educated voter? Well, this forum is not to discuss in depth problems in education or lack of education, but basketball and the needle has been moved a little away from homeschooling.

When a parent homeschools, that parent takes on a responsibility level above and beyond most parents. I'm sure you can attest that many students you encountered never had much parental support and the original point I attempted to make was to throw parents of home schooled students with the general population may very well lump together totally different populations in a hypothetical suggestion of using non homeschooled students and what they might do as recruiting picks up. Personally, I believe this is a different scenario than the historical basis of empirical evidence and yet the result could be the same...even though I personally think the inputs into that decision will be different. Teh kid seems to be more mature than others his age and his abilities may or may not improve as much. Purdue needs to show great interest and let the kid know he is a high priority for them at this time, but that Purdue will not overshadow his growth and development allowing him to grow without Purdue shadowing every movement of his. Now the skinny 7 footer at HSE (which used to be an automatic win in basketball, but not football) could be offered due to projections based upon size and skill today. I expect Purdue to show great interest, but can also understand that an offer may be delayed somewhat. Some remember Marcus Lovett when he was an eighth grader (now a freshman at St. Johns). His skills still show up in college. I like both kids, but I'm a far cry away from seeing a LOT of young talent to begin to pretend I can discern enough to recruit and will defer to those that do this for a living due to my ignorance of the talent base across the country. I am highly interested in these two though...

MANY that followed the Simpson recruiting all teh way up to Michigan wanted Xaiver. I wanted Carsen and let's just say I was lucky in my pick since there were limited video and have never seen them play live several times. Carsen jumped on the offer and stated that he was afraid someone else would take it. Carsen is more mature than many his age and has exceeded expectations for a freshman

And All of this was triggered by the decommitment of CJ Walker. I believe Xavier Simpson had an outstanding offer, then Carsen Edwards and Tejon Lucas were offered with a 'Whoever wants it, gets it" glad Carsen took it.

How ARE CJ Walker, Xavier Simpson, and Tejon Lucas doing right now? I don't wish them ill wills, but I doubt they saw as many minutes as Carsen did. Not thinking little of their abilities, just think Carsen's situation at Purdue is rather a unique one.

Nice work PE. Although he only played two minutes in last night's UVA-Miami game, I thought I'd add a guy (sorry for the pun) whom we really wanted but who jumped for UVA very early in the recruiting process -- Kyle Guy. Not sure why he only got a couple of minutes in UVA's loss last night, but Carsen's still on top with KG's stats included too.

Was wondering the same thing. I have watched their last couple of games and noticed he isn't playing as much. Not sure what the deal is because the offense seemed to run much smoother with him

Just a quick comment on CJ. He's not getting a ton of minutes on a loaded Fla. State team but I've watched him a number of times this year and he is going to be a very good player for the Seminoles. Gun to my head, I wouldn't trade Carsen for him but he's going to be a stud (as is Carsen).

Unless he's hurt, I'm surprised too. UV has struggled scoring points and 7 pts in 16+ minutes is not bad. Better than other options it seems.

Who knows, maybe it's how he wears his hair.

Yeah but if he was at Purdue, you would be loving it

Reminds me of the Board discussion concerning Darnell Hillman (and others) a little while back. Go big or stay home.

Don't be so serious. It is called a joke

Go have a cup of coffee and relax.

Okay fair enough. Seemed like you were calling me out on the hair thing which was just a "looking for any silly reason statement" TIC helps sometimes on these things I guess. Actually I would say most people on this board know I am pretty light on things. So are you new to the board or just changed your sig?

I always said Tex has a great memory:) I'll be late to the game thread tonight. The game starts at fricking 4 pm (here) today. I guess I'm just paranoid, but Penn State scares me a little.

Ok, to totally derail the original purpose of this thread, here's an interesting Darnell Hillman andecdote. When the Pacers signed him, they claimed he had the best hops in the league. To prove it, the put a $100 bill (a tidy sum back then) on TOP of the backboard and told DH he could have it if he could get it. You guessed it already, he exploded upward and snatched that C-note like he had Flubber on his shoes!

I heard that story somewhere before.....but can't remember where/when.

Darnell could have certainly played for Medfield College.
