Name Tavar Johnson, current asst, as interim head coach....Johnson joined the Boilermakers after having spent the previous two seasons at Arkansas. He served as the Razorbacks’ assistant head coach and linebackers coach in 2012 and as the defensive backs coach in 2013. He was named the interim head coach at Arkansas in the spring of 2012....as you can see he has head coaching experience. Then try to hire Babers from BG,who by the way, put up over 700 yards of offense Sat.
At least a move like this would show there is an effort to correct this current situation.

Justin Fuente, P.J. Fleck, and Dino Babers, my short list of good candidates if Hazell is fired this off-season.

Isn't Babers' record at BG just barely over .500? Doesn't that sound suspiciously close to someone else we know?
I think he is still in the middle of building the program, which is why I'm not all that high on him, he just seems like a good coach with his offensive style, but I'd kind of be worried by his defense.

BoilerBulldog, you are actually agreeing that it is time for Hazell to go? Also, Babers record is 4-2 this year. He has Purdue connections and his team can score a ton of points.

If we don't win at least 3 more games, yes. Although I'm still not convinced we would fire him.

I'm not sold on any coach who has just one good year at the MAC level.

Babers is 31-15 so far as a head coach in 3 1/2 seasons. He a protege if Baylor's Art Briles and has been associated with potent offenses everywhere he has been. He developed Jimmy Garoppolo who threw for over 5000 yards and 53 TD's. And now he has Matt Johnson on the same track. He's also beat the last three B1G teams he's played. CDH has beat one B1G team in his career.

I still am skeptical of Babers. MAC coach with little success, that being said if we are going to be a unsuccessful team either way I would much rather do it with a high powered offense and a terrible defense, it would be more fun to watch

Babers is in his 4th year, so at least you have a little longer track record.

Also, he has more wins against the Big ten this year than Hazell has in his career.

I'm not saying I wouldn't want Dino, I would obviously prefer him over Hazell. But I feel we could do better, even though we would probably luck to land him in the first place.

The last Bowling Green coach Purdue hired was "Fat Jack" Mollenkopf and he turned out to be a pretty damn good coach at Purdue. Personally, the idea of Babers is warming up to me because of the offense they have and the Art Briles/Baylor connection. He also has connections to BIG territory. That offense will put some butts in the seats. If he can get a better defensive scheme, his style could fit in very well in the BIG. No one else in the BIG runs the same offensive scheme as Babers, especially in the BIG West. Kevin Wilson's scheme at IU is from his time at Oklahoma. His is closest to the Briles scheme, but it isn't the same.

IMHO, Purdue needs to get back to a high-flying passing offense. I think Babers has the players here to be successful.

I think Babers will end up at Illinois. I just have a bad feeling Burke wont make a move.

I think changes are already afoot. Just based on Hazell's demeanor a few days after the Minnesota debacle, it's possible Hazell's already been told he's out or at a minimum that his coordinators need to go, maybe as soon as after the Wisky game this weekend.

Could very well be that Burke stands pat with Hazell because of the $. Babers at Illinois could be scary, because you know he'll recruit Chicagoland well. Hopefully, Bill Cubit wins enough for the Illinois powers that be to keep him on for another year. He has certainly stabilized what looked to be an untenable situation.

I dont get the feeling they will commit to Cubit long term. Their fanbase thinks they warrant a sexy hire. They let him go and chase a big fish and fail.

Illannoy fanbase is delusional. They swung for the fences the last time out, missing on people like Sumlin, and they ended up with their 3rd or 4th choice in Beckman. Look where that got them. I'd say they are less inclined to hire another MAC coach just because of what happened with Beckman. Now then, Cubit is a former MAC HC (Western Michigan prior to overhyped PJ Fleck), too...

There is one guy who is a sure fire bet to turn things around quickly and for a long time - Sumlin. Pay the man and let's get started playing football again instead of "gimmick of the week".

Dude, I'd love nothing more than this. Problem is, he's making $5M+ per year, plus his assistants make much more than ours. Also, he recently signed an long-term extension with a very high buyout. For sure, Burke would not pay Sumlin his market value. Perhaps a new AD would. Now that would be a bold move and would show commitment to Purdue. Deep down, I think Sumlin is still a Purdue man, but I'm not sure he would take a job with Burke as AD anyway.

Sad thing is, if Burke had used his head at the time, he probably could have gotten Sumlin from Houston instead of TA&M, and for a much lower amount. He stuck with Danny Hope for another year, and then we ended up with Hazell.
