Not necessarily what impacted the game the most.

I’m going to pick the penalties. It’s been a problem since the Tennessee game. Thoughts?

Shout out to PP for hustling, fighting through the block and making that tackle after the blocked extra point.

You missed the mismanaged timeout situation at the end of the first half. We effectively took 2 timeouts with us into the locker room which, if used correctly, may have allowed us to put* a few more points up before receiving the kick at half.

Yep...

To end with a play to the flats vs downfield shot possible PI and a try again who knows??? We certainly won’t.

We have a walk on QB that gets lots of yards but doesn't make plays. Always has one stupid throw that costs the game. Time to see what the big time QB recruits can do. This season isn't going to be special anyway.

I had more but there's a 10 limit for the poll. Goes to show how much Purdue is struggling.

#11) mismanaged timeout situation at the end of the first half (did the same thing against Penn State)
#12) kickoff going out of bounds
#13) Jefferson dropping an interception
#14) giving up the 46 yard TD on a 4th and 1 (with questionable all out effort by a couple defensive players).
#15) playing 1 safety deep in the middle of the field instead of 2 for the final defensive play and then letting that same guy score again on that 25 yard corner route to win the game?
#16) for two games in a row (Penn State and Syracuse); no deep heave to the end zone for the last play...
#17) hit out of bounds on 3rd and long to keep a drive alive.

Couple questions:

1) after the (2) 15 yard penalties being enforced; Purdue was kicking off from the 10 yard line. He kicked it to ~30 yard line. If he kicks it out of bounds (say at the 37); does it still go to the 40 or does it have a different spot? If the out of bounds penalty is still the 40 yard line, why didn't Purdue angle the kick towards the sideline?

2) how many penalties has the secondary been called for in the Penn State and Syracuse games?

Answering the kick out of bounds question, it's based on where the kick started, not a locked in yard line where they get the ball. Something like 30 yards from where the kick started.

18) after they missed their FG, it usually deflates a team and our O came out and did a 3 and out.

You also missed the play in the first half when Brohm thought it was 3rd and 1 and called a run that failed to move the chains. It was, however, 4th and 1 and we turned the ball over on downs. they went to a commercial after our run play and I thought would return for our field goal attempt. But when they came back, Syracuse had the ball . i knew we had missed something but never found out what it was until I read Doyel’s article on the game in the Indy Star. Believe it or not, Brohm didn’t know it was 4th?down!!how much are we paying him? Sorry… that just seems too egregious an error. At the very least, it cost us a field goal attempt….and possibly a touchdown. …and the game! sigh.

He needs to stop being the OC and be the head coach. There is a reason teams have a dedicated OC and DC.

Get the playcalling out of his hands and into Brian’s. On critical down/distance, then ask coach here are two plays. What do you want?

Oh...maybe you didn't miss that one. That may have been the first one you listed when we didn't kick a f ield goal. But if the reaso nfor that was, as Doyel reported, Brohm didn't know it was 4th and one when we ran the ball...then that was the one that bothered me most. But there was enough to be bothered by wasn't there?

The problem with Brohm is he isn't managing the game. Again, if he wants to be an OC, go elsewhere. We need a head coach who can oversee the game and hold people accountable. It's gotten to a ridiculous state...

Exactly, there is a reason everyone else has a designated DC and OC.

-Taking 3 shots downfield instead of getting positive yardage before missed fg.
-kicking off out of bounds is always a kick in the a$$.
-Holding the ball too long...get rid of it. And definitely not into the waiting arms of a DT.

Stop playing the same guys who continue to make the same mistakes.

1 Get Sullivan out of the starting lineup if he can't play smart. He's not that good.
2. If Van Eekeren can't keep a kick in bounds, he doesn't kick anymore
3. I don't care how good Durham is. He just lost us a game. Sit his ass. Keep your damn mouth shut. I don't care what the opposing players are saying.

These guys are starting to get paid on top of a scholarship. Start acting like you're professionals rather than flunkies.

I can't believe that this is true, as, I knew it was 4th down...I have to believe that he did as well...just really hard pressed to believe that he did not know, as if true, that would indeed be one of the dumbest things ever, never mind completely inexcusable...like say, I just think he called a crap play (because, he STILL does not recognize that Purdue largely cannot run the football (at least between the tackles) in virtually any short-yard situation.

Actually, according to Doyel, Brohm didn't know the down or the distance. So, he may have known it was 4th- down an thought it was 4th and 1one and a half2. He called a run play to get two yards and it failed to get the first down. So maybe Brohm's error there wasn't a bad as I described it above. if not, apologies to Brohm on that one. But if you read Doyel's article, he made enough coaching ein the game to make a difference in hte final outcome.

I agreewith you on this point. I think one of thethings we expected Brohm to do when he got here was to build us a decent running game that would finally be able to pick up first downs consistently on those 3rd an or 4th and one plays.Sixyears in and not there yet. how much longer?

Brohm was asked that very question in postgame. He knew what down it was and explained why he went quick, the call and the distance he was trying to get.

You can hear his response at 1:30-2:10.

How much have Sullivan and Durham got paid so far?

For me, has to be Sullivan's dumbass penalty on 3rd and long. Completely changed the game imo. Up until that point we were doing very well on defense. Flood gates opened for Cuse thereafter.

He knew the down...he did not know the distance...not as dumb, but, damn near close...either way, ridiculous.

What bothers me most is the team making the exact same stupid mistakes year after year and not learning from them. And fans blaming the refs for our players making stupid mistakes! They know what the refs are going to call and then get upset when the ref does his job!

I have a problem with a coach that can’t keep a staff year to year. I attribute much of it to being poor manager. Then at end of games you lose control of players and your staff, tired of all the ongoing excuses. He should be sent packing

I don't wanna see him sent packing. But I agree he's not a very good manager. He seems to want to just focus on the offense. Either let Brian do his job. Or let Brian manage the team...

Agree that the turnover is not just concerning, but, a genuine issue/problem.

It is CRAZY that he focuses, to your point, ONLY on offense seemingly....it is as if Defense and Special Teams don't matter aside of just being some necessary evil of the game(s).
