I hope he's working on his resume.
Darrell Hazell makes Matt Painter look like John Wooden. Matt Painter is not going anywhere. Should he? At a top flight athletic program he wouldn't survive. At Purdue, .500, enjoy the middle, he is a great fit and will leave when he retires. So figure 20 more years.I hope he's working on his resume.

I feel completely fooled and misled. 3 losses now, optimistically 8 losses.counting the BTT. There is the kicker, these 2 Ls should be Ws. Going in I figured 4-5 overall losses. Not quite a champion but a definite top 3. Optimistic for the NCAA to win 2. Now I know we will win one we are not supposed to, but will also lose one more we are supposed to win (thinking home vs. Northwestern).True. I want to hear these stupid excuses people say now. Can't say he didn't have an experienced team on a down year in big ten, and highly rated recruits. If the best this team does is some joke worthless 9 loss season with a 1st or 2nd round elimination then it says a lot about the coach.
I don't think I blame Painter as I resigned myself to the fact it is a cultural thing.Careful with a post like this. The positive Petes will come by and string you up by your nut sack for holding Painter accountable.
Yikes!! I can't take 20 more years of this pathetic brand of basketball!Darrell Hazell makes Matt Painter look like John Wooden. Matt Painter is not going anywhere. Should he? Last year at this time Duke lost to NC State 87-75 and then at home 90-74 to Miami. I guess Coach K temporarily forgot how to coach or teach defense. Truth is stuff happens and sometimes the other team has a night when it's just their night. Take a look who all lost this week, Iowa St, Oklahoma, Louisville, Providence, Arizona twice, Virginia twice, Dayton, UK, Butler and PU in the top 25. And maybe I even missed someone. It happens.
Are you comparing Matt Painter to Coach K? Or just the teams? Both are an apples to automobiles comparisons. Coach K had a roster of NBA talent and street cred of 11, ELEVEN Final Fours at this point last year. We have been to two Final Fours in the history of our school.Last year at this time Duke lost to NC State 87-75 and then at home 90-74 to Miami. thank goodness ignore button
We should go after Chattanooga's coach. Why fire Painter? This is Purdue! We love avg. teams.

I hope the new AD has the ___ to clean house in both football and bball.
In the mean time, we will be content to be bored out of our minds watching the wreckage. There will be a new AD in two years, right?
I hope you have enjoyed him, because after this year he is a goner! All the experts had this team as a serious Final Four contender a month ago but they didn't count on inept coaching. 3 7-footers!Historically in both basketball and football, Purdue is not great in big games. When we have a chance to make a statement we don't.
We need some offense. Guys are way too hesitant to shoot the ball. I know we want good shots and to probe the defense, buy we pass up a lot of open shots. Turnovers are killers that lead to easy points.
I don't know what to think of Painter. He is probably a good player development guy and coaches defense well, but our offense has sucked for a long time.....going back to the Keady years. We have never had a lights out shooting team with maybe the exception of when RH and EM played together.
I go to most home games. Painter to me was too passive, especially with calls against Haas. He shows little emotion on the sidelines with his player or the refs.
Nice! Take the ostrich approach and stick your head in the sand! We are ok, CMP is great, go Purdue rah rah rah!

One poster r on here it's
Wow you seriously misjudged the whole Purdue athletic program. They gave the AD a raise and Burke should have left. The reality at Purdue is yes making the NCAA tournament is good enough at Purdue and it should be good enough. This is not Duke, Kentucky or Kansas. How much money does the school put into recruiting? Did you know the John Purdue club is no bigger then NC State's booster program? I accepted the fact after the Iowa home game this team doesn't have the pieces to be a great team.
You wanna betch go betch at Keady who had several Final 4 capable teams and they flamed out. The 2000 Elite 8 loss to 8 lower seed Wisconsin with a chance to play in the Final 4 in Indy was truly inexcusable.
I think you are bitterly stumbling around a "truth" of sorts. The previous president did commit grievous harm to all of our athletic programs during her reign. By cutting discretionary spending, we saw all our major teams almost dry up from weak recruiting. We are just now recovering. Look at the men's basketball program where most of the key players are sophomores or freshmen. Give it time.Oh I couldn't agree more there. That was absolutely pathetic that Wisconsin game. A total flame out back in 2000. Purdue is a university that embellishes losing as a part of its university strategy and legacy. I describe it as a tradition of blown opportunities especially in the big game from anything I have ever seen in my life Purdue and about the only thing Purdue can legitimately claim as a worthy achievement is winning the Rose Bowl against USC, but that happened back in the 1960s. If you can't be the best academically at least try to be winners. If you think Purdue is committed to academics just take a look at the downfall of the business school. If Purdue is committed to winning we need look no further than the raise for the AD after three of the worst football seasons in big ten all-time history. These are selfish administrators that just want money from the students. What do the students get out of it except debts to pay back, a suck sports program hell bent on losing, and cheep glue the broken wood type fixes and worthless half measures to control the angry mob of ripped off students.
Darrell Hazell is exhibit A of why you don't fire Painter.Darrell Hazell makes Matt Painter look like John Wooden. Matt Painter is not going anywhere. Should he? Dude, anyone can do better. There's at least ten different coaches get in the final four every year...[/FirePainterStupidity]Who is going to come in here and do a better job that's just what I'm wondering?
Yeah - the Purdue Athletics car has a blown engine, a blind driver, and we're bitching about the windshield wipers making a weird scraping sound. This is one of the dumbest threads I have read in a long time. We need to scrape together every cent we can to get rid of Hazell and then spend big money to get a real coach like Sumlin. Even if we wanted to fire Painter, which would be stupid, we don't have the money to fire both Hazell and Painter and clearly Hazell needs to go first.
Basically, any extra athletic funds need to go into the "fire Hazell" pot.
Agree. The overall record is surely respectable. My personal disappoint comes from a lot of the wins we had that we just didn't look good. It fell in the 'a win is a win is a win' column and 'we cant shoot this bad in every game' theme. The PITT win was very gratifying (thank you Cline) but the littered trail of poor shooting and sloppy turnovers was bound to catch up with us sooner or later. It has for sure. We've gone from imposing our will to trying to react to the other teams schemes. You can't point to any one thing as the main problem and this team has talent ...but there's also enough deficiencies that talent alone can't overcome. Still a lot of ball left but if coach keeps on with same lineups/rotations, playing times, and schemes we will...........I would love to see the lives of these people on here claiming that they can't stand for mediocrity. I bet they are real testaments to greatness in their own lives.
That said, 17-4 and in the top 25 is in no way mediocre. If it's a letdown then that tells you that have high expectations and that's a good thing. If you aim high you're not always going to hit your target and if you don't aim high then you never achieve anything worthwhile. I'll happily take the problem we're having now rather than the problem we have with the football program because a few years ago everyone was upset with Hope and his mediocre 6 win seasons and assumed that just about anyone could do better.
In life, you tend to get what you deserve. The cant-settle-for-mediocrity people are getting what they asked for in football right now. I hope their voice isn't loud enough to drag the basketball program from its current top 25 status to a historic 3-year low also.
Painter isn't going anywhere until he chooses to leave...and he'd be a fool to ever give this gig up.
