Stop The Man Crush w/ Grady, Give Taylor a Chance To Help on Rebounding

This massive thread, and so many stats and arguments, over a position that is barely getting one minute of real action per game. This is by far the debate of the year on this board and it is really so insignificant in the grand scheme of things. I have always been impressed by Grady's defense and rebounding ability and see no reason to change things up now.
For a second I thought you were the OP...
But your not:).

I must be in the minority. I think Wheeler starts at the 4 unless they find someone on the transfer market. Tre might need a year of conditioning before he can guard the 4.
I 100% agree with you. I'm not as convinced as the rest of the board that Williams is going to come in and dominate. Based on people's reactions here, it seems many are expecting him to put up 10 pts 8 rebs his first year. I think Wheeler starts, but I also expected him to play this year, so who knows.

I'm still looking at those 3 available scholarships thinking one will be an incoming PG freshman, and the other two will be grad transfer forwards.

Something happened to Taylor after he broke his foot again. Admittedly, he received a lot of time in the WUG because Haarms wasn't playing. However, in the limited minutes he has received after the wug, he has looked nothing like the Taylor who played in the WUG.

as for painter not currently recruiting any bigs at this time, I recall last year after Swanigan finally declared for the draft that painter was involved in recruiting about 5 bigs he previously hadn't contacted. I have to believe after the tournament and we see how everything shakes out, you will see painter recruiting two transfer wings we've never seen or had any prior interest in Purdue.

and looking at next year, maybe Dow won't redshirt. At this point in time, given a choice for a back-up to Haarms, I'm more inclined to give the majority of those minutes to Dow and allow him to learn than to give them to Taylor. and allow tre and Wheeler play on the wings. I'm a lot higher on tre than Wheeler. I'm not really expecting as much from wheeler as some people are.

I wish to hear in Oct next year that Wheeler can handle the ball, spot shoot and shoot on the move...and Williams has lost weight and toned in the process. Depending on what happens with each will dictate a lot...unless there is a surprise we don't even know about today...

I'd love to see a 2 guard offense with Wheeler and tre on the wings and haarms in the middle and cline being the assassin off the bench.

however, I believe painter will want more shooters in his line-up. So i doubt we will will see my dream line-up, and we'll go with a 3 guard line-up with wheeler and tre splitting time.

Although, if painter were to sign a 3 point shooting grad transfer wing, maybe we could see more of tre and wheeler backing up tre and the grad transfer, and a 2 guard offense with Cline back to being the assassin off the bench. I just believe Cline is more effective in short bursts than being placed in a 25-30 minute role.

I'd love to see Purdue add a 6'7-6'8 wing who could consistently drain a 3. and i look for that player to be a transfer rather than high school recruit. Maybe hunter will emerge or maybe Sasha will take a leap forward.

I believe we'll have a lot more of these discussions in April.

As for why I would worry about next year, decisions that happen now impact results in the future. Not just in basketball, but in everything. Should Amazon's CEO make a decision that will benefit the company today without looking out how it would affect the company moving forward? No.

Why, with a third of this incredible season still remaining are you bitching about Painter not doing enough to get a player ready for next year by sacrificing any of this year’s floor play? I am sorry to say this but you really remind my of my poor mother-in-law before she passed. She had absolutely no chance of being happy unless she was making herself miserable over the incredible world she was letting pass her by...It was perhaps the saddest thing I ever had to watch and there was absolutely nothing her family could do to help her see the light. Boilersss, you are a part of our Boilermaker Family... Please let us help you enjoy this incredible year with the rest of us and trust the Coaches that have gotten us this far can do their own jobs instead of pretending you could do it better. You are a Boilermaker and we will love you anyway.

For those clamoring for Jacquil, I encourage you to start the video below at about the 54:15 mark and watch it until the end. After doing so, tell me honestly:
  1. that you think Taylor looks healthy
  2. why you think he can play the 4
  3. what he offers that Grady Eifert doesn't
I love Jacquil but I'm just not seeing it. I hope it happens but at this point, it isn't happening until next year at the earliest.

Thank you Tyr - the Norse God known for his wisdom ....

The lineup doesn't have enough outside threats (right now) to warrant it being the starting 5. Add Cline and remove either WIlliams or Wheeler, and you have enough fire power from the outside (Cline, Carsen, and likely an improved Nojel) to really cause fits for opposing teams. I do like the idea of Williams and Haarms together because you can balance the floor a bit more and have both bigs being able to set screens, roll, and step out and hit jumpers. That'd be an absolute nightmare scenario for opposing teams with Haas finally gone.

Don't rule out the possibility that haarms can hit a 3 next year, at least an open one. His shoot looks pretty decent.

I’m in total agreement. To be sure I am being clear, starting Wheeler at 3 is not my prediction. I think it will be Cline. But if Wheeler and Williams are good enough to take the 3 and 4 positions early we will be good fast.

With regards to rebounding or the lack of it, I think Taylor will help in that department. Not sure why Grady play in front of Taylor.

We should start a chant "Stop The Man Crush w/ Grady, Give Taylor a Chance". What's there to lose? Maybe Taylor next year if we don't play him...
Taylor might be a good idea, but "Stop The Man Crush w/ Grady, Give Taylor a Chance" would be tough to chant.

"IU SUCKS!" is much easier.

First of all grandma, I never said I could Coach better than CMP. Secondly, discussing Purdue basketball is what we come on here to do. That includes the team Purdue puts forth next year. I noticed you didn't make condescending comments to the others in this thread that think Taylor should be playing.
Apparently you think we also come on here to be insulted by arrogant pricks as well.
