Sterling Manley top 4

Us over UNC? I highly doubt it. I give us a .0001 chance here. But I hope I'm wrong and will love to be wrong!

His Twitter picture is in a boiler uniform from his visit. Didn't change after his Xavier visit. Although he seems excited about the offer, I am sure he also understands that he will be recruited over. Going to UNC and not being a top 100 player means riding the pine. I think it will come down to Purdue and Xavier. Purdue would be the best basketball fit. If biggie leaves he plays big minutes right away with a really good front court. If Biggie stays he learns with the best front court in college basketball and two of which would be seniors. He may go UNC but if he wants a shot at playing or making the NBA that will be the hardest path. Xavier concerns me the most. Very comparable to Purdue. Purdue just has the quickest path to playing time and on a team that develops big men as good as anybody in the country. The only thing that changes the path is if Purdue signs Epperson, than he will be asked to play more of a stretch 4 role. Not sure if that's what he is looking for or not.

I think the scholarship for the 5 spot is down to Haarms, Epperson, Ondigo and Manley....first one to take it gets it.....Epperson said he is not committing until later in the process......so he may miss out.

Would love to see Eastern, Manley and/or Ondigo and best available athlete, maybe Wheeler (SF with huge upside).

All good stuff...support positive.

Given his skill level and slight build, I see Haarms as a redshirt 4. Also - I think you take Epperson under just about any scenario if he wants to be here.

Hopefully we can get him back for an official visit. Let him interact with the team. I think that would definitely help. He has already taken "officials" to Xavier and West Virginia.

I look at this earlier. Some star power in front of him except at Purdue and Taylor is an unknown at this time...to him in particular. course if he thinks he has really blown up...it may not matter? http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/sterling-manley

Regarding Eastern, what's his game/playing style like? Does he play like a point-forward (reminiscent of Vince Edwards), a slashing wing (reminiscent of Basil Smotherman), or more like a guard with length to him (reminiscent of someone like David Teague)?

I would think that given the UNC situation, we would be the obvious choice. UNC could be looking at some serious NCAA sanctions. They should get the death penalty but unlikely.

They should but they won't because they make a lot of money for the NCAA. It's political.

Roy Williams is making a in-home visit today. I hope Painter is staying on this kid!

I know Manley has been hindered by injuries, but unless you are a top 70 type player, you are getting recruited over. The appeal of Roy and UNC may be Tim much, but Purdue is the clearest and fastest track to huge minutes on a top 25 team. Adding Manley and Eastern would really go a long way. At this point it would be nice to grab at least one of the two. Going 0-2 would be really bad.

Even if we just pull out Eastern and a 5 like Haarms for this class I will be more than happy with this class. That will still give us a solid foundation for next years team with the 2018 class having a lot of playing time available. Our guard situation would be better in years past with Eastern as a frosh and C. Edwards as a soph

Well we just signed Haarms. We could still sign Manley as a 4 if he has interest, but I am just glad we signed somebody.

have no idea what will happen, but Haarms can play a 4 or 5 and I'm sure Manley would like to do the same, Having Haarms may make playing on the perimeter more likely at Purdue and so it could be good for Manley. Is he infatuated with other schools or will he choose Purdue? Things should start to pick up and Battey opened the door for Haarms decision and I think it is better for Purdue

I would be happy with just these two recruits, and then +1 if they are joined by Manley. CMP would be able to begin balancing the classes with just 2 recruits, and the third wouldn't upset that balance if it happens. I believe class balance to be under-rated.

This would be a solid class. I am hoping painter can develop these talents into solid players.

I like the mix of Haarms, Manley and either Eastern or Wheeler or all.....

All things considered....i'd rather have Haarms than Battey. With the height, can do more.....and will have some incentive to work on all facets of the game here both back to the basket and face up. Can't teach 7'2" and with Haarms I don't think we have the conditioning worry that Battey obv. comes with. Plus, I want kids who want to be here.

Sure, he's a project....but if a project has skills you can certainly work with him.

We are never going to be the place that should be expected to load up on top 25, one and done type kids. They are certainly nice to get....but if we can nab an Eastern or a Manley and find some other role players we will still be in good position. Painter won't give up....nor will I.

In the LIMITED video...it isn't even close IMO...Haarm's much better odds of being contributor...

Manley is visiting UNC next weekend. He may sign right then and there. If he makes it back from the visit without signing, our chances go up, but I think it is still a long shot.

Garrison Brooks (four star PF) will be making a decision soon. 247 predicts he will be UNC. UNC already signed a Center for the 2017 class. If Brooks sign, it would be safe to say UNC would be out of the mix.

I still think Xavier would be the favorite here, but if Purdue could land Manley, that would be a really nice pick up.

Prob a WV lean.

WV is heavy on Freshman / Sophmore big men. Including Esa Ahmad (a top 70 PF 2015 signee), a 6'8 and a 6'10 kid in the 2016 class, and Derek Culver (top 70 PF 2017). WV lost some votes recently on the 246 Crystal Ball. I would guess Xavier, UNC, Purdue, WVU are all very close in the race for him.

I think this is one of those situations in which he will choose the culture/players/coach where he is most "happy/comfortable" and where he feels the most wanted. He may not want to be a high-focus star, he may want a smaller school environment, he's in a can't-lose at this point.

I wrote about Painter's track record with 3 star or unranked big men in the Haarms thread, so I won't repeat all of it here. Suffice to say it is not good, with guys like Bade, Tacos, Hale and Lawson while Calasan was probably the best 3 star big man he has recruited.

However, I must admit that I am intrigued with schools like Xavier, WVU and UNC. If we land him, hopefully he will be the exception that breaks the rule of CMP and 3 star big men.

It seems like he is a good candidate for someone that will exceed his current ranking. He had a significant injury that prevented the scouts from evaluating him, so his 3 star status is probably not based on much at this point. He has a very solid offer list at this point. From the video I've seen, he looks very impressive. My guess is that he breaks into 4 star territory before the various sites finalize their 2017 rankings.

For what it's worth I think his sister attends Xavier
