Stephens' Skill Set

The big difference would be that Purdue was in a dogfight with Cincinnati and Wisconsin was toying with Coastal Carolina in a game that was never even close to being in question. Oh, and the other bigger difference is that Wisconsin was arguably the best 3-point shooting team in the country and Purdue was average at best. Wisconsin had no more than 23 3-point attempts in any of their 5 meaningful Tournament games. So you picked stats from the one meaningless Tournament game and then accuse me of cherry picking stats? You are a deceitful dog, aren't you? Go fetch a real fact boy.
I'm not cherry picking. I'm filling in the gaps in YOUR example.

Wisconsin was 81st in three point field goal percentage at 36.5%, which is good, but nowhere near best in the nation. (I also think that Purdue has a great chance of matching that percentage this season.)

The Wisconsin/Coastal Carolina game was only a 14 point game. Your implication that Bo Ryan told his players not to worry about being disciplined and launch a bunch of threes because Coastal Carolina in not a threat is pretty far fetched. The reality is exactly what I stated before. Coastal Carolina didn't have the size to match up with Wisconsin so they were forced to collapse a lot and hope that Wisconsin had an off shooting night from outside. Unfortunately for them, Wisconsin shot well from outside and they lost.

Thanks for teeing up this example for me.

The thread seems to be veering off the topic, so let me throw in my two cents before things get outta hands.

I watched the game and I feel that Kendall did not force any shots. He shot exactly at the right moments, hence the 40% success rate. If anything, the 10 attempts were the result of the NC's tactics, not KS's carelessness. Every single attempt KS made came after a good round of passes that prevented NC from seriously challenging his shots, so there is nothing to be concerned about. The perimeter was so wide open last night that even Swanigan attempted 3 3's and got one in. If anything, Swanigan has taken more 3's carelessly than KS, and I was still not upset. Things were that much open.

Aside from the one turnover, I was mostly happy with KS's performance. He got a few fouls but they mostly happened when he was guarding as a 4. A huge chunk of KS's minutes has gone to Cline only because it was a blow-out and Painter went to bench early. I don't believe KS will shoot this many 3's in the future unless the opponents leave him REALLY wide open. All things considered, he has played a really good game.

The interesting thing about Stephens' and Cline's stat line from last night is that they shot the exact same number of 3's as they did in the exhibition game. 10 is too many in by game unless he's on fire. Painter needs to man up and set some limits. Keep in mind, the Final Four is played in Houston this year. Both of Gonzaga's guards shot over 40% from 3 last year but in their two Tourney games in Houston they combined for 2-19.
So you don't want Kendall to shoot 10 3's a game if he shoots 40%? Man you must think were going to score 150 ppg this season.

I agree. I thought that he moved the ball well and was very active and engaged on both ends of the court.

His defense looked really good, but NC A&T didn't really test him, so we'll see how it translates to tougher competition.

I was also impressed by Cline, btw.

Was at the game. Kendall reminded me of the Kendall before his injury last season. Very smooth and it seemed like every three point shot, save 1 or 2, looked like it was going to fall. IMO he could have just as easily been 8/10.

Threads bashing Kendall need to be LOCKED. This is ****ing ridiculous. He played just fine. Looks quick and strong. Gonna have a great year with all these bigs drawing attention.

40% from 3 is really good. With the three bigs inside, we will have to shoot close to 40% in each game to open up the inside. If we shoot 20% from 3, then teams will pack it in and force us to keep shooting.

I hope Stephen's and Cline shoot 4 for 10 each game. Would take 3 for 9 as well. Stephens and Cline are big parts of our success.

My guess is Painter said to both Cline and Stephens, KEEP SHOOTING!!! If we can add one more shooter...may be Davis hitting 30% or Mathias hitting 30%, that would be huge come big ten time when other teams will have at least one big guy to cover our centers. If they can double up the inside or zone then bigs out and no one hits 3's it will result in loses in the B1G
