Some will laugh but the mans a defensive genius and doesn't have much going on right now.

He has a National Championship at Florida as DC. Very deep recruiting connections in Florida and Texas. He worked for Meyer at Florida, so he'd be good for game prep against OSU.

Personality wise, he's a lot like Brohm. Very intense, loves his players and they love him.

You have a Jeff Brohm offense and a Charlie Strong defense and that could make for a pretty wicked combination.

Go big or go home. You want to go big, you make a run at Strong.

Even if you heard it, still make the attempt. Show everyone you're serious. Don't just whimper and back out.

When Louisville hired Bobby Petrino, Petrino wanted at GOOD DC, so he made a run at Todd Grantham at Georgia. Guess what, Grantham left Georgia for the same job at Louisville. If you don't try for the best, you'll never get the best. Strong is the best DC available out there.. Go for it. Even if you don't get him you've put everyone on notice that you're serious.

Why? Strong will make more money off Texas sitting on the couch watching People's Court and The Price is Right.

Strongs got plenty of money in the bank. Guys at this level operate on pride as much as money. It's not like he'd be working for free. Pay him a fat salary and give him the chance to rebuild his pride and reputation. He'll listen.

How fat are we talking?

..at some point...money is not the motivator

1 million minimum. The best paid DCs get 1.5+. Venables, Grantham, etc. You offer Charlie to be in the top 15% pay range for a DC, hell listen. More importantly it will get the attention of every school that you're serious, and every other coach that you're serious. Just making the move and making the offer ups your status.

Since Texas has to pay him, and whatever Purdue would pay would just reduce what Texas has to pay, maybe he would take $1 per year? If I had been fired by Texas that is what I would do to them.

I am sure there are stipulations in his Texas contract that prevent this, that we would have to pay a "reasonable" DC salary.

There is generally good faith clauses, like actively looking for work and taking an appropriate salary.

Though in all honesty I think strong bumps back to HC G5 team or DC top tier P5. Going to DC at a rebuilding program is a huge risk. If he fails as Purdue DC he is pretty much done, if he maintains status quo at a blue blood type program he will probably get hired as an AAC level coach or a low tier P5 coach.

He took on Louisville as a rebuilding project after Kragthorpe. Capped it off by smacking Florida in the Sugar Bowl. He's not afraid of a rebuilding job.

There is nothing in his history to show he will fail. He would be the perfect fit for an offensive minded coach and he would help immensely with recruiting. He has ties outside of the 3 hour radius. Succeeding at Purdue would be a huge mark on the resumé as well. It is a perfect fit. He won't be cheap but he is the best option.

If we can't get Strong, I'd also look at Todd Orlando from Houston.

Kratz, Charlie screwed the pooch (actually a doner's wife) at U of L. It is now public. Ole Charlie is tainted goods and he will flat-out not get a job at Purdue nor Louisville nor anything else more prestigious than IU-Southeast.

I am not sure how a woman cheating on her husband has anything to do with the ability to coach. I am sure there are quite a few coaches out there with infidelity scandals. If we can get him for under 1 mil, Strong is worth every penny. Helps recruiting outside the Midwest. On top of being a good recruiter, he is pretty big name as a DC. If he is available, move mountains to get him. Purdue isn't going to get the big name folks during a rebuild. There might be a few serviceable options, but non will have the impact of Strong, at least in the short term.

I'm still waiting for someone to come up with some kind of proof that this actually happened. Several people have posted the link with the initial ACCUSATION, but what was the outcome? If it were proven to be true, surely it would be in the news somewhere.

The woman at Duke ACCUSED the LaCrosse team of raping her. How'd that one turn out? You can accuse anyone of anything, but proof seems to be in short supply.

It was a nasty divorce and they were both hurling insults and accusations. If he had proof that Charlie did it, it would have gone public.

Even if it is true, not sure how Purdue fans can throw stones on this particular issue...

I think the idea of working for an offensively minded coach would be appealing since, more than likely, Brohm would leave Strong alone and give him immense freedom. Couple that with going to a place like Purdue where his defenses could be seen as successful when they hold teams to 30 or less, that seems like a win-win for a guy trying to shake the stigma of failure at UT. No top program is going to pick him up and a G5 likely can't afford what he would want.

Being truly realistic about salary, paying Strong at $1 million would make him the highest paid assistant coach in the B1G, so that likely isn't going to happen. I would say that if you allocate about $750k, that would still make the next DC the 4th highest paid assistant in the B1G. In all reality, locking up Strong or Deruyter would take about $800k with some incentives...and if the word through the grapevine that MBob allocated $3.5 million for assistants, that would still leave $2.6ish million for other assistants. If that amount is truly allocated, that might have been what really brought Brohm in as that truly shows Purdue willingness to back the coaching staff.

You're onto something there that you may not realize. Brohm is a Petrino protege'. Petrino does not get involved in the defense. He lets his DC run the whole show. There will be times when the D is on the field and Petrino literally has his headset off and is simply watching. I would think Brohm would operate similarly.

That is one of the big reason Grantham left Georgia for Louisville: Petrino told him the defense would be completely his.

I'm not either, but a few are choosing to make it an issue based on an unproven and long forgotten allegation.

Life in today's society of instant online social media and wanting to 'be the breaking source' for something. If you make it up and it turns out to be true, you are praised. If it is false, there are zero repercussions.

Who would want to work with Brian Kelly?? He probably only is there one more year anyway. Not sure why anyone would want to go there for one year and then have a new HC after that.

Youre assuming that Kelly will have another down year. i dont think they will miss a bowl game again next year.

I was wondering when someone was going to Google "Charlie Strong Louisville".

Google "Charlie Strong Tracy Blue". That lights things up.

Hate to derail the Charlie Strong thread with something even more controversial, but any chance CJB gives a certain ex Purdue DC a call? With a 3.5M pool he could probably double or triple his salary.
