Starting 5

said it a few months ago and I'll stick with it:

5 - Haas
4 - Biggie
3 - VE
2 - CE
1 - Spike
I still think it will be PJ, Mathias, VE, Biggie, and Haas all season, but that Spike and Carsen will also play a lot of minutes with Purdue going with a lot of 3 guard line-ups.

Spike has the "it" factor. I can't explain what it is, but he has it. Much like Kramer.... Kid is just a winner. To bad we didn't have him for 4 years.

Just be happy that they have him for one year. That's my way of looking at it.

Don't care much who starts. Like that we have more people to get hot on offense this year and I think we will see a lot of different people getting extended minutes this year.

I think you are close.

While I expect Matt to start PJ and Dakota initially, I tend to agree with your line-up by the time the big ten season gets here.

I still believe that Carsen will be a pretty impactful player for us. If I had to guess, I would say his freshman contribution will be similar to what we saw from Vince. He is a very gifted kid with a high bball IQ. Everyone knows he is quick, can shoot and will attack the rim. I will be more interested in what he does defensively (Ability to stop guards from driving, Steals, long rebounds) AND what he contributes against West Virginia's pressure. The better he does these things the more he will start. (And I expect him to start some games)

I expect Spike to demonstrate the same kind of poise/impact that we got from Octeus - just different. VERY pleased with our new guards at this point. Dying to see how they do against West Virginia pressure.

I'm guessing we struggle against WV. We had real problems against the press last year and WV plays it better than anyone. I'm thinking this game will help us a lot down the road, which is the purpose.

With CMP, it isn't about who starts...it is about who he trusts to finish the games. The minutes will come to those who prove they are putting the work in and who are doing the right things on the court. In all honesty, I couldn't give a rats tail who starts the game....it's who is finishing when Purdue needs to close out a game. Now, if Purdue needs to make a run...obviously Carsen would be a lot of people's first choices to be playing, and I definitely won't dispute that. I am going with the assumption that Purdue will be closing more teams out than playing catch-up at the end of games this season.

Spike
Mathias
Vincent
Biggie
Haas

Those five are all very good FT shooters and you have three capable ball handlers and four capable of hitting a jump shot.

And if Purdue is in need of breaking pressure, substitute PJ in for Haas and push Biggie to the 5.

This is probably not going to be a traditional game. I am guessing it is going to be much more situational and controlled through situations rather than just a running clock the entire time. My guess is that both will apply pressure to each to give the teams experience, they will play a 'zone,' and then probably will play a portion of a traditional game (possibly 20 minutes). Huggins and Painter wanted this with each other to work on specifics for each program this season. My guess is Huggins wants to match his guys up against as physical of a team as he can so he can show them early on the effort they need to play with. CMP wants to play a team that can apply hard full court pressure to give his players tape to study on what they need to improve on.

Granted it was an exhibition game. But I was very pleased with what I saw from Spike. I had visions of him being a shell of himself after surgery and long layoff. That was not the case at all. I see him getting major minutes and for sure being in there at the end of games.

Wonder if Belein would like a "do over" on that one?
