Looking at what Stanford just did with hiring Luck as the GM made me wonder if that’s not a possibility to salvage the Walters mess. If Purdue brings in a GM and basically strips Walters of recruiting, NIL spend, & coaching hires maybe he actually makes some progress as a stripped down version of a head coach. Then next year they can fire his ass and start building back with a real coach and a newly established GM system.

I am skeptical this will turn out good for Stanford. I do think having a general manager is a good idea but Luck is a proven quitter who might fold when things get tough. It's a feel good moment for Stanford to bring him into the fold but I'm not sure he will do a good job.

I think that is going to be the model of the future thanks to the NIL. At some point there will be NIL caps established and the NFL structure will start to get adopted into college football. I don’t like it but I think it’s clear that is where we are headed.

I think it depends entirely on the coach and what duties the GM assumes from the coach and athletic director....which will vary by institution.

Some coaches will want to retain all of that power. Some coaches will be better off if they can focus on football and let someone else take care of most of the off the field activities.

Did you watch our defense this season...Walters' forte? Poor angles, out of position, lousy tackling, and DBs lost in pass coverage.

I would not let Walters coach another minute.

Similar to top recruits and transfers, there is no way a top line GM would choose to have Walters on their staff. We saw a defensive minded coach, and he is anything but. He was the offensive play caller and we saw how successful that was.

The only way that we turn a corner is to fire Walters.

Luck will run the program as an "AD-plus"; the entire coaching staff reports to him. Like I posted elsewhere he can help coordinate recruiting and portal management and also with typical AD-like stuff dealing w/alums, raising $$$ etc. I hate Stanford but like the guy and wish him well.

Ii hope he fails miserably.
