Speculation from Spartanwire.

Why would anyone of any quality jump to join Walters? And why would you do it this early in the game? And didn't Walters hire this staff to begin with. If we do hire a new staff and scrape together four wins next year then what?

Just pathetic leadership from the top if he is retained. Probably even if he isn't.

IF, and that's a big if, Walters is retained (which he shouldn't be) and he wins 4 wins next year, then they'll keep him around for another year. it would be the never ending train wreck.

Hell. Bobinski might offer him an extension and then retire and hand the reigns over to Grimes.

5 on offense and 3 on defense. They had two starting tackles transfer before the coaching change that now start for Auburn and Colorado, so even with them it would still have been 5 offense. One WR and all the OL ... until starting OT was hurt for the year two games ago and his replacement was from JMU. On defense they are all DBs
So more starters from JMU.

Maybe the link on the bucket should be JMIU?

Walters must have some really good blackmail if this is even being considered. His defense doesn’t work. This team is fundamentally absent. We are a good OC hire away from winning maybe 3-4 next year. Is that something you want to tank the program for?

At least go down swinging if you’re the AD.
My West LaLa rumor mill suggests that Bobo tried to fire CRW for cause, but that the investigation backfired. So you may be on to something…

I remember this smoke like 5-6 weeks ago but didn’t really think much of it.

At this point just fire the guy and pay his buyout. Fall on the sword as the AD then get a chance to redeem yourself with a good hire.

Will cost you more in 1 games worth of lost revenue (tickets, parking, concessions) to just pay the years buyout.

Sucks, but not falling on the sword here and making the right move will cost the AD their jobs too eventually.

It is about respect for JMU, and the decline of the rivalry.
The team we play in a week says Indiana (well sometimes Indinia) on the jersey, not jmu. I mean we’ve destroyed bad IU teams how many times and that didn’t demean the rivalry? It would be great to think we can end their playoff chances this year but …

Agreed, and the rumor mill continues to spit out more and more … either CRW is guaranteed another year already or he has stopped construction on his new multimillion dollar home and his wife left and took the kids. Either way you’ve got the right take on things, make the change or watch the AD and the entire fb staff lose their jobs next year.

What demeans the rivalry, and just about all traditional rivalries in the new P5 cfb world order, is that it will be a competition to buy the better team.

I am calling for a JMU link to be put on the bucket after the Nov. 30 game, signifying the sad end of a long rivalry. Many rivalries will now decline or vanish across the country. @Katscratch

A US Senator says 14 of 31 transfers are from JMU.

Tommy and the rest of the SEC have been buying teams for decades. Some have been better at it than others...

Probably true, but I don't think Purdue and Indinia were doing that. If they were, they were doing a horrible job at it.
Agreed, I just think that it is hilarious for Tuberville to call out Cignetti and IU out for buying a football team.....

First don't shoot the messenger. Last night's gold and black podcast Tom D. Doubled down that crw is coming back. He even went as far to say that they are currently interviewing candidates for his new staff. He supposedly has the inside info.
Hope he is as wrong as all the pollsters were about the election.
Not saying Tom didn't say it, but this doesn't even seem logical for a variety of reasons.

Purdue will need a miracle to beat iu. Stranger things have happened and you never know with a rivalry game.
But, I suspect this is the year for iu to take out many years of frustration and try to get some attention from the playoff committee by hanging 70+ on Purdue.
The good part is, and embarrassing defeat to iu might force MBob to make the call.

Yeah if that is true... there won't be anyone at the stadium next year and is the single worst decision Bobo would have ever made.

The football program would essentially be dead at that point.
Agreed. Even "progress" shown by winning 4 games next year against our worst competition will not re-energize the fan base or demonstrate that Walters has the team heading in the right direction.
He's lost the team, recruits and fans. That's the triple option of a program death spiral.

All the right questions. Completely agree!

As you know the roles have been reversed over the years (more for Purude) and there were times as an IU grad/fan I was hoping for Purdue to do the same, to help in a coaching change. I know the feeling.

That has been my biggest question on replacing staff but keeping Walters. It is like being asked to be the new CFO of Enron after the fraud investigation started. Or being tasked with leading the Mortgage Backed Securities desk at Merrill Lynch in 2009.....no one in their right mind wants to be tied to this sinking ship

Coaches don't think like fans. There will be coaches rushing to interview if called, sinking ship or not. Example ... Bostad left Wisconsin for Tom Allen's sinking ship and then gets hired by the new staff ... the only one from the old IU staff. He just likes coaching football and liked the old school approach he heard from Cignetti. The point being he came to a sinking ship.

Touche - didn't think of it in those terms. I guess I am at such a low point with this program, I would imagine only a moron would want their name tied to Walters.

The difference being, IU had an already sunk ship with a new captain. Purdue's ship is still sinking, and the suggestion is to keep the captain and get new lieutenants.

Sparty didn't hold up their end of the bargin. At haltime, I was predicting a 48-3 stomping and waking up today to the news of Walter's release.
Instead, they tease us with a comeback, only to give us the ole Lucy on Charlie Brown trick with Edrine's drop.
I'm sure MBob's full of excuses this morning for why he saw progress against MSU and for keeping CRW.

Michigan State should be concerned about Michigan getting the number one quarterback in the country. $8 Million I think I heard. Big alumni with big checks. What is the best theory, we hired Walters but gave him no NIL to speak of?, or we did and he can't coach?, He picked the wrong assistants due to no money to hire good ones? he was not prepared for a HC job in the big ten or anywhere? He got arrogant and thought he had made it to the top and could just coast? You know leadership comes in many flavors, did he not see that no one was buying in to his blueprint?
