Let’s start with the good, cause there was lots of it.

> karlaftis and bell to me, could play on Sundays right now and do well. There’s a big difference between the guys we have, and the guys we have when they have a guy like that headlining each side of the ball

> so many players showed up as quality players who hadn’t established that yet, or as big time players who hadn’t established that yet.

Gus Hartwig, Jalen Graham, Jaylan Alexander, Jack plummer, dedrick Mackey, Lawrence johnson and Marvin grant all showed up as more than just guys with some talent who needed experience to not be all over the place .. they all were what they were consistently. I really felt good for Jalen Graham, Who looked really comfortable playing in space against a team that will play better in space than they did against us.

several guys who had already established themselves as down in and down out consistently good players took that next step… cam Allen, Cory trice, Payne Durham, Zander Horvath all looked like the stars I expected them to look like. We need grant and Mackey to not be bad in the secondary to win games .. but then when you have trice and Allen not only not be bad but make the plays they made.. you’re onto something

and of course I had no basis for demarje Lewis but he was really good.

a bunch of guys showed up and raised their hands and said I’m somebody and I think that’s awesome.. the team put in the work this offseason and a lot of guys like cam Allen looked like men out there compared to the players I saw in 2019…

that said .. always a couple areas for concern

> 43 is not an entity at this level. I’m sure he’s a fine young man but if you go back and watch the game he is constantly out of plays, pushed out of plays and self checked. When you as a coach can’t put better on the field, you are going to pay the price in potential victories that turn into losses.. and since 2003 this program always has one guy out there … don’t believe me, go back and watch with the focus on the middle.

> the defensive line was a weakness of this team that Oregon state fans themselves lamented the entire time leading up to the game … that should scare you because we play in the big ten … trust me, we will see much better.

> tj sheffield? Exaaactly. If we had a player noticeably more explosive than anthrop out there, we probably light this team up. Anthrop is fine but you wanna replace rondale moore with more than fine. Brohm has had more than a few guys show up on campus and remind you of a lot of late tiller kids (and no, not those two)

plummer was.. good. He’s got some acute strengths .. he made more accurate smooth passes to receivers on the run. However he’s now on tape passing to Milton Wright one time … he’s gotta use the whole field, but I liked what I saw overall. The ball could come out a little quicker

best the team has looked since the Ohio state game in 2018

Where was Rice ?

I only watched live and didn’t watch a replay but along with those listed above I thought Thompson looked like a solid receiver to complement Bell. Brothers made a couple of plays. Wright isn’t going to get consistent looks until he can consistently catch the ball. Hands have always seemed to be an issue with him and he dropped a perfect TD throw from Plummer.

I thought Coach Brohm was 100% involved with the defense on the sideline last night. A big change from previous years.

in all fairness to Wright, would be nice to give him more touches to make amends, this happens w/ rb's who fumbled. Payne who had a nice game even had that one dropped which turned into an INT.

thought Plummer was very good last night

You mean I didn’t note him or where was he on the field? If you’re asking the latter.. he’s an outside receiver who will fight to replace David bell one day … the big slot stuff is gimmicky nonsense.. it would be like playing a 6’3” center in the nba and arguing “well he’s really fast though”

Yeah.. right now he’s teetering between big time NFL player and a guy who is seen as an athletic freak of a receiver who can’t catch… not good

Well one thing I’ll say is that Oregon state probably had more speed on defense than we will see in most weeks… I really doubt we will struggle to work the ball to Wright vs Connecticut and Illinois

What I saw was Plummer did well, with people in his face , he still threw some really good passes. Defense got better, except for a few times in last quarter, when they were standing and trying to get signal from sidelines, while other team was hiking the ball, liked the secondary play, team made some costly errors , Horvath does better running straight ahead instead of tap dancing, glad Purdue has Connecticut to work on things before Notre Dame,
