Of course we want him to come to purdue but its about the best coach in the big ten just saying and purdue has had 2 top ten draft picks in the last 3 or 4 years

I brought up the names of Smith and Loyer when I was referring to the other incoming recruits, Harris and Bender cox and the returning Colvin. They will either be at the three of they will be backups until Smith and Loyer graduate. My statement was that in addition to Sisley I don’t expect any other players will arrive and become instant starters at the other positions either.

My thoughts were also on Mullins and Harralson. They both may be awesome players. But I can’t see either player starting until Smith and Loyer leave.

I then pose the question. Do they want to play on a great team and come off the bench for their first two years? Or do they want to start immediately? If they want to start immediately, they won’t come to Purdue.

As for academics, very few basketball players leave a high school to attend a basketball oriented academy if their main thoughts are improving their academics! And when a player comes out publicly and says his goal is to play in the NBA, that sure doesn’t sound like the player is interested in staying 4 years and getting a degree. Especially if the player talks about staying for 2 years before turning pro.

I like Sisley. But he just doesn’t seem like a great fit for Purdue.

One has to ask, why do players leave high schools to go to glorified basketball prep schools? I guess he wants the NIL money. It concerns me that today’s players are more interested in NIL money than going to a school to get an education/degree. If money is what a player really wants, they should just go to some developmental league and not worry about taking accounting. Chemistry and calculus.

But basically, they see colleges making money and they want a piece of it. Colleges should have never started giving athletes scholarships. The more they received, the more they want.
A lot to unpack here.

First players don’t go to Purdue expecting to start, paint makes it clear they must earn it. You are obsessed with starting, I don’t think guaranteeing to start as a true freshman would be a deal killer for any true freshman considering Purdue as we just don’t offer that, but it’s clear with loyer and smith that you can earn it!

I don’t understand how Sisley is not a great fit. He has been a primary target by paint for this class for a long time. His style has been compared to Vincent Edwards and Sisley has said he wants to be a 3 or 4 guard (like Hummel and Edwards). Were those guys not great fits?!

Virtually no good basketball player is going to college for an education. In fact if they are it’s really a distraction and lack of focus on basketball., it’s nearly impossible to do good at both. I have no issues with these guys coming here to hone their basketball skills and taking classes or getting a degree in basket weaving or OLS. And they shouldn’t be shamed for it either. With regards to NiL we all would be doing the same . How many students choose a school based on scholarship money or cost of tuition? How many people choose a school based on thr revenue the schools advertise you can make when you graduate (which Purdue does!) For most people economics and personal gain is a major factor, if not the primary factor. If you are a good basketball player and want to play professionally, the NBA should absolutely be your goal. No one goes to school for accounting and says their goal is to stay in college for 10 years to pick up extra degrees, they want to graduate as soon as possible and be an accountant.

He's a good fit at purdue. This transfer thing probably isn't good for purdues chances but he's also not an elite athlete that nba scouts will see all of this upside if that's his ultimate goal. He's going to need to show that he can shoot and that he won't be a huge problem on defense guarding nba wings. He can do all of that at purdue imo.
