Hazell said he would play him against IU and burn red shirt if Appleby and Blough couldn't go. Sindelar told him he would be willing to play.

I would rather lose 100-0 before burning his redshirt the last game of the year. It's one thing if this was for a bowl appearance or a big ten title...but it's not. I get that Sindelar probably wants to show his stuff so he has a better chance of beating out Blough next season...but no way Hazell should waste a season just for this game or part of this game.

My God, did he really say that? If he does that he should be fired before the game is over. Marshall has to be our emergency backup right? I'd play one of the tuba players at QB before burning a redshirt in the last (meaningless) game of the year.

Are you surprised?? You're talking about a guy who linked his Purdue hopes to John freaking shoop. In year one when pro shoop people were saying that anti shoop people were just disgruntled bears fans, i asked when he'd ever been good. Their crowning achievement was when UNC was ALRIGHT with Shoop and TJ Yates. By the way two years later the name TJ Yates isn't really persuasive anymore, but ya know, details.

So I went to UNC rivals and basically said "so regarding shoop, tell me.."

ONE GUY said he wasn't THAT BAD. the other replies were variations of,

"Get used to QB draws on 3rd and 12 yet?"

So I'm not shocked. This idiot and his idiot supporters really thought Hazell could come in here, hire John Shoop and play make believe that he was Jim Tressel arriving in Columbus circa 2000.

I supported the Hazell hire when the only evidence was him almost making a BCS bowl at freaking Kent State.

When he hired Shoop I was 50/50. When I saw the team that Danny Hope was able to go 6-6 with I wanted him gone but hoped he would have Jules Winfields moment of clarity. Plus I knew he'd never be fired in less than 3 seasons.

By this year? My god if you were still holding on and didn't flip against Illinois I can't imagine you'd know what good coaching is if it smacked you in the face ...

Joe Tlller and the 2000 staff would be 8-3 with this roster

Why wouldn't Appleby go? Or was this just a hypothetical? Or did he really mean if Appleby was injured during the game?

Appleby will start, but they said the redshirt will be burned if an injury occurs to Appleby that knocks him out of the game and it is still a winnable game. If Appleby is knocked out for only a few plays, Purdue would use freshman walk-on Arron Banks.

TJ Yates is starting for the Texans and just one another game for them.....just saying......

I agree though Shoop needs to make better Offensive play calls in certain situations or get him packing skippy.

No way should they ever burn Sindelar's redshirt...that 100% stupid......as a matter of fact they should not even let him dress for the game to insure he doesn't play. I like he is willing to, but that is to be expected from a competitive kid.....but no way should he play in this game.

Marshall or Banks if it comes to the 2nd and 3rd guys needed......then just run the ball.

Give the ball to Yancey and Green and let them go wild!

I hope it is Appleby and he plays balls out and 110% the whole game with no BS....wish he would play with that competiutive spirit which made him the starter......sack up and play 110% the whole game and let's win this thing!

Hate IU in any and everything!

I'll reserve or at least temper my judgement on this one a bit since I don't know what is being said behind closed doors.. Regardless, I just hope DH is giving heavy consideration to whatever is the true preference of Sindelar (and his parents) and not what may possibly win one meaningless game. It is possible Sindelar may see this as an opportunity to have a leg up on the starting QB job heading into next year. I would strongly disagree with the idea of DH forcing him into the game, but keeping him out of the game against his wishes could blow up in his face also.

Have Markell Jones run the wildcat. Jones with an extra blocker (since there isn't a QB in the wildcat) against that IU defense. Hell, at least it would be different than anything we've seen this season.

It's amazing at this point the amount of money the university pays Hazell to make these horrible decisions. Yes Danny Hope is looking like a genius at this point.
Being that Hazell has shown the inability to win anything over the past three years, why not use this week to prep someone on the roster with QB experience instead of burning a kids entire year in the event there is a need after Appleby.
What I wouldn't give for Brock Spack at this point.

I thought things couldn't get any worse for this program. I will be pissed if they waste an entire year of eligibility for one lousy game. Hazell has to be the stupidest coach.

ES should just say "No", that's part of the problem too. Just like Anthrop deciding to play this year.

There is no way this can be true. This is just too stupid to be true. Besides I have seen anything that says that AA isn't healthy.

Of course if can be true. This staff will do whatever it takes to save their own hides, at the expense of the players, just like they did with Danny Anthrop, who was not, and is STILL not 100%.

Burke, idiot that he is, still has to know this would be a mistake, and cannot let this happen.

If he even thinks about playing Sindelar he needs to be fired on the spot and have his ass kicked. THIS GAME MEANS NOTHING!!!!

Yeah but with Anthrop's injury we were still under the delusion that this year was salvageable. Nobody but that idiot woman announcer on ESPN believes that this game with IU means anything. Even us die hards have thrown in the towel.

Hmm I disagree.....we need to beat the shit out of IU...always!

Keep them from a bowl game even better!

But no way do you even dress Sindelar........no way he even should sniff the field this year and by having him in dress clothes saves the coaching staff and the player from even considering it.

I understand it is a team game, but it is also about maximizing the potential of the program......no game is worth wasting his year.....no mathematical equation or reason can be given.......even if the player wants it, his goals are for the next 4 years...not this one game.....

Put him in street clothes please so nothing stupid happens.....

Boiler up!

Sindelar needs to have the smarts to say no if the coach ask him if he wants to play. I am sure he would love to play but not if it kills his redshirt. Even the kids parents should step in if needed.

YeahI hear ya but honestly given where we are, I don't care. The season is a bust and I can't muster an iota of enthusiasm for this game. I could care less about the Spoilermaker badge.

Have to respectfully disagree here: many of us knew we were toast after the VT debacle, at which point we could still have redshirted anthrop.

And I had forgotten about sister hazell speculating that Bentley might not be out for the season with his ACL being torn. What a jackass.

But nothing yet this year would rise to the level of jackassery as putting Sindelar in the game against IU.

I agree with you on Bentley - that was madness. On the VT game, I think many of us viewed that game as a loss given the Marshall outcome. But the B1G season hadn't started and the jury was still out. That was way too early to have given up. But in retrospect, you're right. Marshall was the key game that set the pace for the season as many on this board speculated.

Playing Sindelar at this point should absolutely be a fireable offense. No, the staff won't be here to see out his career, but do not ruin his career before it's even started. I don't care if we beat IU by 100. There is no momentum going forward because this season has been so terrible. No one will get excited about a win no matter what. Beating IU would be nice but it's IU and they're terrible so a win against them should never be a big deal (in the exception it was 2000 when beating them meant a Rose Bowl birth).

If we bring in an air raid staff, this kid could be something special. Please, please please don't ruin his future now.
