Sindelar needs to play every offensive snap

I don't know what Sindelar has done to piss off his WRs or the coaching staff but he just has so much more upside than Blough... Need to get him more experience so he can come back next year and lead this team to a successful year.

I doubt anyone is pissed off at him. The coaches probably believe Blough gives them a better chance to win. Had Sindelar been able to lead us to a touchdown or two against Rutgers, my guess is we'd have won that game and he'd still be in there.

Sindelar is more reliant on the talent around him while Blough is not. At this point in time with the lack of talent in the WR’s and the OL, Blough gives the best chance to win. You also saw Blough get better as the game wore on against Nebraska and he didn’t have any boneheaded throws or decisions. If you couldn’t see the improvement from the QB position, I’d suggest you go back and watch the game.

The WR’s again dropped to many balls and there were play calling mistakes (which Brohm took blame for in his post game presser). As much as some may not want to admit (or some that want to throw Brohm under the bus for some stupid reason), Brohm has struggled this year adjusting his play calling and his tendencies to fit the play style of what he has. Ultimately it will make him an exponentially better coach as it has forced him to be more creative and find angles to work around. That’ll help in ththe coming years as the talent gap gets smaller and the wins start to mean more.

That might make sense if they were really in a win now mode but they're not. Sindelar has the higher ceiling and ig Brohm can actually bring in this Rutgers decommit, next year things will be a lot better giving Sindelar the experience in what is already a lost season with these past couple losses.

I more just meant the inability by his WRs to catch the ball vs. their ability to catch Blough's balls against Rutgers

Well they showed against Nebraska that they don't discriminate in who they will drop a pass for as they dropped several for Blough this past week.

Sindelar will get back in. I am generally not a fan of playing two quarterbacks but it seems like it is too easy for a defense to figure out either of these guys after a few series. But when you put the other one in the defense has to adjust because they each bring different things to the table and you probably set up a defense to defend the Blough offense much differently than you would set it up to defend the Sindelar offense.

I'm all for playing both the rest of this season and trying to ride the hot hand and switch up when things get stale. Both will be back next season so I wouldn't bench one just to get the other experience unless one clearly earns that spot.

I actually disagree about your "higher ceiling" assessment. He has a stronger arm but that alone doesn't give him a higher ceiling. He can make a few throws Blough can't but Blough also does a better job of making plays with his feet.

As for whether or not we are in "win now mode", we still have a chance at a bowl game. I don't think the team or staff has given up on this season at all. They are preparing as if every game is a must win.

Every team is in win now mode until you are bowl ineligible. We aren't talking about burning redshirts level win now, just playing the guy who in the coaches own words give the team a "slightly" better chance at winning. Besides, I'm not sure managing a conservative game plan with a shaky OL and unreliable receivers is going to do much for Sindelar's development. If you read between the lines, Blough is now starting because the passing game is in the toilet with either QB, but he can at least scramble for a few yards here and there. If I'm Sindelar I'm ok with letting Blough take the punishment for the rest of this season while I await my chance with, hopefully a legit receiver or two in 2018.

Yea no. If they benched the QB for rest of the season with the intent of "building for the future" who happened to be the team captain, not to mention still has a year left of eligibility, in favor of a guy who has hardly proved himself that much better, the team would just quit altogether.

Not that it comes as a shock to me since I have been reading these message boards for years, but in my opinion some on here are being way too hard on Blough and the rest of the team and coaching staff. Purdue as a team needs to do better all the way around, but then again we all knew this would be the case coming into the season. It ain't gonna happen over night.

-I thought Blough played fine (Not great, but fine) this past game and I really do not believe for a minute that Sindelar would have given us a better chance of beating Nebraska. The receivers would have dropped his balls too.
-We do not have elite level talent like O$U & UM.
-I agree with those who say the coaching staff is struggling to implement their system given the personnel limitations that we have.
-We desperately need our receivers to catch the balls that touch their hands. (Please come here Rondale Moore!!!)
-We are thin in many positions which has been evident in some games as we tire out towards the end.

I'm disappointed we didn't win at Rutgers and at home against Nebraska. I do think those games could have been called a little better by the coaching staff, but I am I am still happy we have Brohm as our coach and I still think he will get the job done. I remember at times thinking Tiller could have made some better decisions in play calling his first year at Purdue but I loved Joe Tiller and was very happy with the results he brought to the program over the years. The good news is that we have been competitive in all of our games this year except for maybe the second half against Michigan. We still have a chance to go to a bowl this year. We have a decent recruiting class forming up for next year and a high level recruit verbal commitment for 2019. Brohm is campaigning hard for Purdue Football out there on the recruiting trail so I think the future is still bright for us!

Boiler Up!!!

To do what?

Look, I'm all in favor of the best man playing.

Right now, he hasn't earned it. (Of course, neither has Blough.) His stats are inferior. He hasn't dominated.

There's just no reason to put him at the head of the line.

Dude. It's a little early to be angling as his agent. Just let it happen. JS is in his 3rd year here. If he was that dominant he'd be starting. He's not. Let's let it play out.

Blough played decent on Saturday. Certainly nothing to suggest a change is necessary. We need to beat the Illini and then go from there.
At this point I see the next game as the only realistic chance remaining for a win. I'd love a Bucket win but think IU still has an edge this year.

I think we win a close one against the Illini, and IF healthy will all the injured guys back, I think we steal a close game at home against the ‘Losers’. Just gotta keep’em healthy.
LPF!!

Ok... coaching strategy makes no sense...
Put Blough in because he can run because the receivers can't catch(opponents know this) so we run the QB and not run the running backs? Remember all you have made it clear Purdue has no passing game cause the receivers can't catch... right?
Coach needs to look at the stats for yards per carry and Purdue is paying this guy how much? people that work at Purdue get fired for 10.00 hour for not doing their job and they don't get 3 years to show results. Here is the problem...when the other OC was their everyone said the play calling was to hard for the players to figure out? Well Brohm is doing the same thing to them. Purdue season is done so just hand the ball off to the RB every play and wait till next year for Alstott.

Um, wut?

Thats some weak troll bait.

Every game remaining is winnable...and loseable. I said at the beginning of the game we will win a game no one expects us to win and I think that game is still coming.

Iowa?

I’d bet the lines are something like this:
Ill -10 (I know it was -13,-14 but I think my pick isn’t more realistic)
Iowa +8
NW +4
IU -1

I wouldn’t necessarily call any of those, games we couldn’t or shouldn’t win but IOwa will be toughest odds against us.

I don't think we beat Iowa but I think we could. But with the way injuries are going I wouldn't bet on it. My broader point is this team is good enough to surprise somebody.

Can't believe some of the questions about Brohm's decisions. Yeah, it OK to disagree with them but, he was the toast of the town 2 weeks ago and I guess he just got plain dumb? He has a complete pass from me and whatever he says (and he has been self critical of himself). I see plenty of improvement this year!

My lone question is if our receivers can't catch the ball, why are we still playing them? We have Hamilton who will probably red shirt and Zico and Holmes getting very few reps

Holmes is who I don't get. He must not be putting any effort into practice or the playbook because I can't imagine he wouldn't be on the field with his pedigree.

Good things happen when you give the guy consistent snaps and the confidence that he's not fighting for a job. can't deny sindelar's been great the past game and a half.

We're all thrilled when he plays well. I've preferred Blough because his completion percentage was in the 60s which I think is required for us to score with our current offense. Sindelar has been at the 60% mark the past two games and we've been able to score some touchdowns. If he can have another good game this Saturday I think he will have made the most of his opportunity and made a strong case for the starter position next season.

Okay . . . with someone choosing a moniker "itsasindelarthing", and only 4 posts, I should know better. But, I'll still weigh in.

One, in those 2 games he's been at a 59% and 61% completion rate. Yes, he has improved his 56% season average, but "been great"?? If you think that's "great", we have different definitions. He still has a ways to go to reach Blough's 65% (which, by some definitions, would apparently be described as "great".)

Two, if "fighting for a job" diminishes his confidence, he's going to have a tough go in life. I really don't think you want to go there, because if fighting for a job shatters his confidence, I would question whether or not we want him taking snaps during a highly competitive B1G season.

All-in-all I'm pleased with Elijah's performance. He still has quite a ways to go, but he's starting to perform like someone who has been around the college game for period of time he has.

I still hope we bring in Sparks to confuse the Loosiers with his two obligatory QB keepers.

You are either a crazy pessimist or an IU fan - Boilers are gonna lay a hurting on the Hoosiers Saturday

I would like to see that play where Knox gets the ball turns around for a fake return to the QB and then turns it back up field, worked well vs Rutgers.
