Shrews to ND

Okay I'll tray again.

He coached a team that was a 10 seed in the NCAA tournament (meaning 36-40th seeded team overall) whose 5 leading scorers where seniors and has nobody returning next year that averaged over 4 points per game.

Is that better?
If the point is that he would be facing a rebuild I agree. I have no visibility to the quality of the younger players he’s brought in as to your point, he played one of the oldest teams in the country this year. Easier to rebuild in the portal era but a big ask regardless.

If your argument is that he wasn’t that successful by Penn State standards I strongly disagree.

For someone who places such a high value on Matt’s NCAA performance, you sure are minimizing Micah’s NCAA victory.

You must have me confused. The idea of firing the B1G championship coach is ridiculous. I haven't written that anywhere on this board. In fact there are posts from earlier in the year where I state that our goal should be to win the B1G championship each year and let whatever happens in the tournament happen. I guess I wasn't contemplating how I would feel if we lost to a 16 seed.

My problem with the whole Micah narrative is that he somehow turned Penn State around. They weren't any better this year than they were in Chambers last year and next year they are going to be god awful unless someone comes in with a lot of transfers, They would have been bad even if Micah had stayed.

I guess we are close to agreeing. His record at Penn State was very similar to Chamber's last few years. In fact Chambers was 11-9 in conference in his last year.

I guess my point is as much as folks like Micah on this board he kind of screwed Penn State. They gave him his first coaching opportunity, he built a team for immediate success and upon leaving has left the cupboard bare.

My bad. I thought you were one of the “NCAA is all that matters” crowd.

Micah, at 47 has had quite a few stops:
Wabash, Depauw, Marshall, IUSB, Butler, Boston, Purdue and PSU.
ND 3 years and than back to the NBA?

It’s all about getting the better deal. The last two HC’s that beat Purdue in the NCAA moved to higher paying gigs 5 seconds after they lost their last games. MS is no different than anyone else. But I do find it humorous when coaches talk about creating/ setting a culture (John Harrah) this and family that, and then bolt themselves. I don’t blame them at all for saying whatever they need to, to maximize their successes at their current jobs, until that bigger payday comes around. It’s just seems two faced or just false to me.

I think where we disagree is that in my view, after Chambers was fired the next coach coming in was more likely to have Minnesota like results than to be highly competitive in the Big Ten and win an NCAAT game.

I recognize that Shrews used a lot of one and two year transfer players
to do that and that any coach leaving after two years is not great for the school. If I'm Penn State, I'd much rather roll the dice that I can get a new coach in who can sell a strong program coming off an NCAAT win and BTT championship appearance to recruits and transfers than to be entering year three of a shit show as Minnesota is doing.

Shrews was just continuation of the results under Shrews. Just okay.

B1G results
2017-2018 9-9 6th Chambers, Semi finals B1G Tourney, won NIT.
2018-2019 7-13 10th Chambers
2019-2020 11-9 5th Chambers NCAA Tournament Cancelled
2020-2021 7-12 10th Ferry
2021- 2022 7-13 10th Shrews
2022-2023 10-10 9th Shrews

Based on the above it was just business as usual at Penn State.

They'll be bad next year unless the new coach lands a lot of talent from the portal with or without Shrews.

Except that Chambers wasn't 'business as usual' at Penn State. Those 17-18 and 19-20 seasons were as good as they'd had at PSU and Micah's year this year was as good or better than either of those. Pat was great but he also didn't leave the program on great terms, which you're seeming to ignore.

You again keep cherry picking order of finish but ignore how close each team was to the top. PSU finished tied for 9th last year but was two games out of 2nd. The 17-18 team was six games out of 2nd and the 20-21 team was five games out.

Your response was completely predictable. If I have 0 posts and you say the moon landing was a hoax, does that mean anything in terms of reality if I ask for verification?

Please cite your conversation. Again, I just asked for proof. If this is a real conversation, you can name the real people and we can verify.
You're asking someone to cite a conversation? How do you do that? A conversation? I'm honestly curious.
