With the uniforms being released and some mixed thoughts on them, I thought what aspects could Purdue and Nike do to make the uniforms a bit more unique. Oregon had and has the wings because of their mascot but what could Purdue do?

I thought with the aeronautics and the engineering aspects, something could be added to generate something about the uniforms being unique. Maybe instead of just the US flag, it could be a represented version of the flag planted on the moon by Neil Armstrong. The train track helmet was honestly pretty cool but that's not done by Nike...but could easily be added to other parts of the uniform.

Hopefully this doesn't turn in to some silly debate about putting corn on the sides of the uniform but what is something (like the wings for Oregon) that could be done to make it a bit more unique?

There is a detail on the shoulders that is supposed to represent the cowcather.

I dont understand the angst over them. I thought they were fine.

Same here and I thought it was a good improvement but wanted to see what other ideas people could come up with. Enjoy seeing other people's perspectives.

It's not necessarily a decision Purdue gets to make. Nike does not really create "custom" uniforms. If you look, they have different "models" of uniforms that they adjust colors, logos, etc. on for each team that wears those models. Similar to basketball - on the back of Purdue's jersey, there's some Purdue-specific graphics - well other schools have the same exact thing, just different graphics obviously that represent their school.

Nike uniforms are basically like buying a house in the suburbs - you get to choose from a few different models and choose a paint color, but everyone's is basically the same.

that's sort of what I was referencing. Is there something that Purdue can do to modify the uniforms to make them unique? I didn't catch that the shoulders are supposed to be a 'cow catcher' and honestly most other people wouldn't have a clue.

I think the cowcatcher is pretty appropriate for the logo and theme of the school. I mean, Oregon used duck wings....their mascot is a duck so its not like they went crazy and too far out of the box when they added that.

I said when we got our 2010 redesign that we didn't incorporate the logo/train theme enough and that these new uniforms capture it in a way that fits with both brands (Nike and Purdue), moves the image forward, looks good but doesn't make us a forerunner and looking crazy (like Maryland did with their heinous state flag uniforms). I think it says a lot when we get upgraded to the newer Nike uniform shell a few years earlier than it rolls out to the rest of the schools. Our 2010 redesign gave us the flywire collar a few years before everybody else got it and this redesign puts us in the shell that only the Nike teams playing in the NC Tournament got to wear the past 2 years. I assume that every Nike school will move to this shell eventually, but its cool that outside of the Premiere programs in the country we are some of the first to get to wear it.

I think the look is an upgrade from what we have and is far better than us moving back to pee gold or wearing and rehashing our wretched unis from the 70s-90s time periods.

Agreed but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas that could make it a bit more unique...even a helmet idea. I do like the tracks on the helmet but would really like to see a 'Pete' on the side of the white helmet instead of the number. Agreed that the uniforms are light years ahead of where they once were (remember the uniforms where we couldn't see the numbers at all?) but I would really like to see us get the actual Old Gold that we claim as one of our colors.

Still think our 2010-prior Nike jerseys were the best - sleek simple clean. Fans only complained about the shade of gold then.

At least now we finally ditch the flywire collars. impressed though that we are in the first wave for the new vapor untouchable templates for once. Although it appears we lose pant stripes and gain the ridiculously large numbers.

Cowcatcher shoulders is a good idea, but poorly implemented IMO. Tough to see on the color combos chosen.
I do love the black train track helmet stripe, as an alternate.

But I'd still go back to 2010 unis as the basis.
There are a number of more traditional looking teams out there with only occasional alts.

I don't think Purdue's problem is finding something unique. Purdue's problem is finding something that people recognize.

Purdue suffers from a brand identity problem. And the problem is Purdue can't seem to stick to one identity, which just muddies the water.

Now Purdue's starting to ditch the P on the helmet more. The problem is - you have to identify the helmet. That train logo Purdue has - you couldn't even make it out on a damn t-shirt that Nike had to re-do the logo. It just looks like a blob on the helmet from a distance. And putting the numbers on one side of the helmet is the dumbest thing ever (because the numbers are so hard to find elsewhere? They are in 4 different places on the jersey!).

Same old hope....1) go back to Purdue's OLD GOLD like Army had from Nike 2) Fix the Train logo if you are going to use it on the side of the white Helmet or stay with the Slant P that has become a recognizable symbol for Purdue Athletics and get the band to stay using it too....uniforms themselves are not too bad and the three helmets could be sharp if they fix the white one!
