Nice, competitive scrimmage today with football simultaneously played on the new video boards.

Most impressed by:

Carsen - Best scorer at Purdue since the Big Dog, with honorable mention to Moore & Willie Dean. He's like a video game with his ability to move quickly from end to end and score in every which way. Can be a one-man wrecking crew, and this team is far more than one man.

Haarms - Extremely skilled. Nice jumper at 12-15ft & makes good decisions. This will be a fast team when he subs in for Haas

Nobody looks like they don't belong on this team; we're deep & loaded with talented scorers. The only weakness that stands out might be the defensive board, but I'm spoiled from watching Biggie clean everything up.

This will be the highest scoring team Purdue has had in a long, long time.

Tyger sat behind the bench and already looks like he has a decent relationship with Eastern, who amiably came over to greet his family. With that type of personality, Eastern may end up being a valuable recruiter moving forward.

Hunter was also in attendance.

Carsen's key will be consistency at the volumes we've seen him shooting between the World Games and this. An off day with those types of numbers and it could doom the chances of a win. Especially if rebounding is not as strong.

Really appreciate the feedback, very insightful. Nice to hear the consistent reports of how well Haarms played. I'm sure he will have some growing pains, but the fact he impressed multiple people with his play is huge for the projected depth of this team, especially if Taylor's injury creeps into the season.

One question I have is how did Haarms look on defense in general? Did his length at least affect some shots? I didn't see any blocked shots in the box score for the team and I know that was a weakness last year. Also, does he appear to have the lateral quickness to stay with stretch 4/5's that burned us so many times last year? Just curious if you were able to pick up on that during the time you saw him.

That's tough to say after a scrimmage, but he looks like he'll be able to keep up with all but the quickest of players. He's smart enough to know that at 7'3" he can trail behind a smaller player and still impact the shot, so our ability to switch on screen & roll will be magnified when Haarms is on the floor.

His main issue may come on the board when powerfully built, smaller players are able to gradually leverage him out of position, but he seems very willing & able to engage in contact. Ewing and Haarms got into a sequence of physical play in the 3rd 10-minute period, and Haarms more than held his own. Practicing against Biggie & Isaac must make everyone seem small & weak in comparison.

I think Purdue has the guy that can guard Moe Wagner this year...
