Scott Martin

Not to defend Martin, whom I think was kinda of a baby about the whole thing, but players like to watch video of themselves. By the time our freshman year was over I think Painter showed us tape of all his hs games. When he dunked at IU that year, I don't think I went a day without seeing a replay.

Did you room with Coach Painter at Purdue?

I don't recall hearing about a Painter dunk at IU, though I'd love to see it. IIRC, Purdue was down kinda big in the 2nd half of that game in Bloomington and came back to win it.

I think we bumbled away a B10 crown that year after getting a decent lead in the standings, too.

Yes, they came back and won in overtime at Bloomington:

Maybe Painter dunked in garbage time of the home game blowout of IU? I was just a little kid at the time. That was the first season I can recall watching any Purdue basketball games, but the only ones I remember seeing were the home win over Illinois and the NCAA Tourney loss to Texas.

Our freshman year we lived on the same floor of Owen Hall and became friends. We continued being friends until he moved away from Indiana to pursue coaching. The game was at Mackey when he got his dunk. Painter didn't play in close games that year. It was a breakaway with him and Clyburn and Clyburn screamed for him to pass the ball but according to Matt he said "na" and went up himself.

I see. I figured that much (that he had to have dunked in the blowout win at home vs. IU). Thanks for sharing.
